We brought our own blankets, but it still felt cold at night--next time, I'll definitely bring sleeping bags. There's a beautiful hike nearby, and our teepee was just a short walk from the river, which made the experience even more special. The lounge area was a fun bonus, filled with games and a ping-pong table--we had a great time playing table tennis together. Overall, it was a peaceful and relaxing stay. The staff were kind, caring, and polite. I absolutely recommend this place.

The structure was originally built as a hotel in 1853 and has been well preserved. I ordered their Smith Flat House salad ($10) and the Jambalaya Risotto ($34) which consisted of Cajun-marinated prawns, lobster meat, Andouille sausage, grilled sweet corn with saffron chicken risotto. Definitely had a bit of a kick to it, the risotto was done well. My pet peeve is mushy risotto, it needs to have a slight bite to it which this one had thankfully. Love the fact that this place serves up local wines -- I couldn't recall the wine I had and they do not have their wine menu on their website. If you have the opportunity to visit, I'd recommend a glass of red from Starfield (winery up the road).

The ceremony site is simply gorgeous with its canopy of walnut trees and ivy covered arch; we only added a bit of decor to the start of the aisle as it was perfect as is. Booking a year in advance, didn't think we would have weather issues in late May but we ended up having to deal with a rainstorm. Kurt and Nina were awesome and let us set up tents last minute the Friday before so that they were ready to go on the big day. They even provided a pop-up tent of their own to cover our DJ. Even though we had to limit our decor to the minimal covered areas, our wedding was still the perfect day we had always dreamed of. Brookshire was reasonably priced (especially as it comes with all tables and chairs), spacious with a great layout that easily flows from ceremony to reception, naturally gorgeous (i.e. minimal decor needed and numerous photo ops), and close to town to avoid travel fees, yet still feels private and remote. Kurt and Nina were so sweet and easy to work with, you could tell by their enthusiasm that day that they truly love what they do. They were so helpful and also very prompt in returning our security deposit. Thank you for being a part of our forever!

While it's a bit of a distance to the actual venue, it was well worth it for the quiet, calm and very relaxing environment. Beautiful property and I wish I had time to use the pool outside. We stayed in the Bella Vista honeymoon suite. I loved it. It allowed my husband and I to talk. There's a calming and clarifying vibe to the room and the place in general. Spacious, clean, and comfortable. I would stay here again if I was in the area 100%. I think about this place from time to time. I actually miss it!

Bluestone Meadow is a modest lavender farm. The field is rather small and you can tell that some of…read morethe plants have seen better days. I came after a very cold and wet late winter and spring, which I'm sure affected the plants. It was still a nice little family farm, albeit without a ton of picturesque views. For the Lavender festival they featured some vendors, live music and a $5 kids zone (which I didn't visit as I don't have any children.) They offer the chance for U-pick lavender bouquets but upon pulling in and getting ready to visit the fields, I found no clear direction for the U-Pick. I went over to the barn and spoke to the cashier who just advised I grab a basket and some shears. Just some feedback for the farms, is that they may want someone advising guests on the proper way to cut the lavender. Other fields I've visited had a bit more guidance: to offer. It was a nice little trip, overall and in addition to my bouquet that I picked, I also got a container of their lavender body butter. They also do weddings and other events at the farm, so it's helpful to follow them on Social Media.
