I first learned of who this journalist was from author David Downie from his book Paris, Paris.
Beneath the Place du Tertre, along Rue Poulbot, lies a lot of history if one is an art fan!
I intentionally sought out this hilly plaza in order to locate Le Bateau-Lavoir (the boat wash-house)--- several very notable artist from the previous century actually lived here.
I'm a big Picasso fan, and not only did Pablo live here, on one edge of the square, but so did Matisse, Modigliani, Cocteau, & Gertrude Stein ( whose personal collection I saw at SF MOMA). Apollinaire also lived here.
