This is by no means, a McDojo - wow! This "dojang" (Korean version of dojo) is the real deal. No gimmicky $200 "belt promotions" on a bi-monthly basis, no upgraded costly weapons classes - just self defense. I have two young sons, both of which have Tourette Syndrome, and karate works as behavioral therapy for them. Not only have I seen improvements with their TS, they both have been more respectful (bonus!) Additionally, this dojang teaches kids real self defense, as in what to really do if you are attacked by a stranger. Best of all, the cost of training here is HALF of what I was paying somewhere else. Yes, half! Low cost... Great training... Fantastic staff... What are you waiting for?!?!

My son has taken karate here at this studio. He is more focused and respectful. The instructors are great. Positive environment.

I was looking for a marital arts studio that my 6 year old son could join during the pandemic. I…read morestumbled upon USSD on Facebook and they were offering two weeks for free and so I decided to check it out. I liked that during the pandemic they taught the classes outside or virtual. Both my son, and now my 5 year old daughter, have been taking classes here for almost a year now. Our first encounter was with Sensei Christine. She is so friendly and easy to talk to, and basically the administrative backbone of this place. Whenever I had a question, schedule change, or whatever, she has always been so accommodating and makes you feel like you a part of a family. My kids absolutely love Sensei Jack! He always makes classes engaging and funny. He is really good with the kids. I like how they not only teach karate, but also the principles of karate and how to deal with every day life situations, like dealing with a bully. I have learned some life lessons myself while watching in on his group classes! The program itself consists of a 30-minute one-on-one with a trainer and then 3 optional 45-minute group classes (based on age). They earn stripes on their belts depending on what they have learned for that particular belt. Once they receive 4 stripes they can test for the next color belt. Tests are usually done once a month. The kids have incentives to earn "ninja dollars" which they can collect to redeem for toys at the "ninja store." The kids really loves this and gives them an opportunity to work harder and be more engaged.

Master Turner is as good with kids as he is with adults, and the other instructors, all of whom he has hand-picked, are also superb. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I've been working out here for 10 years now, and never plan to stop.

We are extremely happy with the progress our daughter has made at Karate Mission Viejo. When she…read morefirst started, she wasn't very interested, but she is now fully invested and genuinely excited to attend. A major turning point for her was the combination of regular classes plus personal one-on-one sessions. We've seen real growth in her strength, confidence, and focus. The instructors are incredibly kind, patient, and empathetic, while still pushing the kids to do their best. They truly know how to meet each child where they are and help them grow from there. There's a great mix of students, the facilities are well maintained, and the karate mv team is very flexible and understanding when it comes to make-up classes and scheduling needs. It's honestly a joy to bring our child here. She looks forward to every session, shows off her skills at home, and I feel confident that she's gaining real self-defense skills she can use in real-life situations. I highly recommend Karate Mission Viejo to any parent considering martial arts for their child.

For the first time visit, Sensei Luis met up with us and did a little intro with my son and he was so friendly, and so attentive to my son's needs, and my son was so engaged!
