A pleasant surprise amidst our stroll in Torcello, Italy!…read more First, their seafood was simple yet done just right. We ordered a bowl of mussels in lemon broth, and it was by far one of the best mussel dishes I've ever had (and mind you, I love mussels and have had my share). The mussels were fresh and did not have any unpleasant after-smell/taste (which some mussels do). Furthermore, the broth was done perfectly, so much that I found myself dipping my bread into it just to have some more of it toward the end of the meal. Second, their pastas are solid. We had both seafood pasta and the standard bolognese type. They were both tasty and adequately Italian/authentic without throwing off our palate. Note, though, that the Italian concept of "seafood pasta" is slightly different from what Americans/British are used to; instead of cooking the seafood fresh, the Italians seem to braise/process them a bit before cooking. The end result is that the seafood in seafood pastas taste a bit different which might throw some people off. Service was great too. The servers were prompt and friendly -- which I found most Italian places to be in Venice. When we went, there was a massive group lunch going on, most of whom seemed to be locals. For me, that's a sure sign that this place does its things right.

This is authentic, fresh made pasta, pizzas, and meats. You will not find a pomodoro or an alfredo (and please don't look for one!) but the most incredible squid ink pasta, duck ragu, and unique, ever changing menu items. Wine is excellent, select spritzes are always offered, and service is beyond kind. There is a patio to enjoy during the nicer months or for smoke breaks, and multiple rooms inside with two bathrooms. If you venture into Castello, head towards the FC arena, or just want to wander as a pseudo local, please stop by. You will not regret it.

There is a cheap take away next door over pouring into the streets so we went inside. I didn't feel like it had ambiance of a romantic place. It was more of a nieghborhood restaurant comparable to an Applebee's. We got house wine from tap and from bottle. Tried the red beer of Venice. My husband likes his beer. I thought both beer and wine was "oke" but nothing to have again. We enjoyed the tortellini the most! The spinach and mozzarella stuff ravioli in a salmon cream sauce was delightful and should be tried. Presentation was on point. The pizza was ok. I didn't care for the crust after trying so many in Venice. The menu said spicy and I was expecting the heat but it never came, just grease. Bread for table was without taste. The salad was fresh! It was very sweet the serve offered us lemonchello and I will say it was the best we have had so far in vience. We would go back for that to go. In all it costs us 50 Euro for the date.
