What's not to like when it's a beautiful spring day sitting outside at table in a town founded in the 13th century drinking Austrian dunkel bier? Probably couldn't have been a nicer day, we were on a river cruise on the Danube. Stopped at a tiny village called Grein in the Austrian Wachau Valley. If not for the cruise we never would have happened on this gem of a town. Rather than eat on the ship we asked our tour director if there was a local restaurant she would recommend. So that's how we found La Vita. They had a menu so large that it would make a diner envious. I opted for pizza optioned with lots of extras. The pizza was probably 16"; way too much for me to finish and surprisingly good. It cost under 7 Euros. Around $7; probably would be double in the US. Local bier for 3.5 Euro completed the deal. Enjoyed a great dinner and beer w friends here in Austria. I was apprehensive eating at an Italian restaurant but was pleasantly surprised with a menu in English & a waitress who mostly understood what we wanted. I ordered the musaka which I had never had before. I was made with meat, mashed potatoes, mushrooms & eggplant. It was served w a side salad & herbed sour cream. Very tasty. I also decided on an appy with feta cheese, onion, tomato, cucumber& kalamata olives. It was very good & I thought the feta was excellent. So happy I tried new foods on our adventure & found this place in particular. Lovely country! read more

The outside is a cute unassuming restaurant front. Downstairs you have the kitchen and a gorgeous staircase up to the dining area. The restaurant seating is small so coming early or making a reservation is a great idea. The food here was top notch Italian food. The pizza tasted fresh and was authentic. The pasta was equally amazing. Prices are fair, albeit in cash. I do wish they had some different beers on tap as there is something inherently wrong with drinking Budweiser in one of the beer capitals of the world. Overall, NG is really top notch and one of the better meals I had in weeks of eating out throughout Czech Republic.
