Winter sun in the Vale is perfect to tuck into hot pizza and red wine. Why not indulge at the newest wine and pizza joint in town? There is a lot to love here at Pizzateca. Wide green lawns which just beg to be played on are dotted with twisted eucalypts. Lunch time attracts families, seated at wooden tables right by the aqua and pink shed. The Fit Out The barn is resplendent in its livery of white with dark trims. Blonde wood tables and chairs fill the interior. A compact bar is well stocked with the distinct triangle-labelled V.Mitolo & Sons vino and in pride of place stands the impressive, fully imported wood fired oven. Service In a flash you have a smile, menus, and water thanks to the friendly, quick service. Beverages V.Mitolo and Sons wine is served by the glass or bottle, and you can even have a tasting first if you like. I opted for a glass of the Barbara 2015 ($10), which was a juicy, savoury number. Not such a great match for tomato based pizza, perhaps would do better paired to cut through the rich cheesiness of the quattro formaggi pizza. Food For starters, you could treat yourself to an impressive antipasto board. Or perhaps contorni (innovative veg and salads), and arrosticini (Abruzzo style meat skewers). The stars of the menu though are the pizzas which are served unsliced, with cutlery. Your table will be set out with aqua and pink paper placemats that match the shed right before your pizzas arrive. Slice your pizza yourself with the provided cutlery, or take a chance and pick the whole thing up (I want to see photos if you do!). The Salami Pizza which we ordered with no salami was loaded with olives, mushrooms and fior de latte cheese on a sugo base ($24). The olives gave it a lovely salty tang, and the base was nicely charred from the 400 degree oven. This was my favourite of the two pizzas I tried. Pomodoro is Italian for tomato, and this pizza ($24) came with a sugo base, fior de latte cheese, baby roma tomatoes, lashings of garlic, basil and olive oil. Again I enjoyed the crisp outside, soft inside half centimeter thick bases and the pungent garlic Overall The music is cool, it's family friendly, the pizzas are good and eating them with knife and fork is a novelty. I managed to polish off a whole pizza myself, so aim for one per person. I'd love to return to try the prixe fixe menu of $50 for groups of 6 or more and that antipasto platter deserves closer inspection!

The ceilings and walls are lined with corks and you are kept warm in the winter by a number of barrel fireplaces. It actually feels like you are in the country. Willunga is really full of a lot of surprises. It is a real trek for me to get there; however I am never disappointed in what it has to offer. Russell's pizza got a massive hype when it first opened. Everyone in town was talking about what an amazing experience it is. They are always booked out with functions and small gatherings of friends, so be sure to call in advance. So what is the Russell's experience? Well, unlike many other venues, we rocked up with an esky full of drinks. Yes, can you see why I felt at home? They have a licence to allow BYO. Obviously you are to drink responsibly, but it really keeps the customers there for the night. The next part of the experience is the staff. They are all so friendly and helpful. They work super hard, but they keep a smile on their faces. They even stopped for a dance with us after our meal. Then there is the pizza. Oh the many pizzas! The bases are perfection. They are home made and rolled out in a sort of long fashion to fit on wooden boards. Toppings are all very creative and fresh. One pizza came out with oysters in the shell. Lovely! The sauce is really flavoursome. You could not really complain about anything. This is a great birthday or small function venue. You can pay a cost per head and you are provided with chef's selection pizzas until you say "no, I can't take it anymore! I will roll home if you keep going!" Russell's really feels like a party at one of my good friends home. I highly recommend this place if you have a birthday or gathering in the future.

Not at all, this modest, but atmospheric bit of Australiana produces pizzas which have few peers, whether you think of Rome, Naples, New York or Adelaide. Light, thin tasty bases, dressed with the best produce in true Italian fashion, not piled high, cooked to perfection in a woodfired oven. Good sizes, although a little pricey, our kids were the best critics, their fussy as most are - not a crumb left! The range has something for everyone, ham & pineapple, napoli, yes they're there, but so are seasonal vegetable, slow cooked turkish lamb, and many others. Just order from the board. Deserts are traditional tarts, panacottas and pies simple - all delicious. Staff are friendly, casual and eager to please, a special desert for the kids was no trouble. The only nitpick is, for a largely BYO restaurant, a $7 ph corkage charge for those drinking their own is a bit steep. It shouldn't put you off, but make sure you budget for it. Anyway, if you're in the neighbourhood, don't miss it!

I have been to Woodstock on several occasions and the most recent was for the wedding of two very good friends. I have spent a great deal of my professional life organising functions - weddings being the most high pressure of these events (even the meekest girl has the ability to turn into a raging bridezilla) and I was absolutely floored with the organisation, affability and professionalism of Zak the restaurant manager and the woodstock crew. We had an alternate drop menu, chosen by the bride and groom. Every dish was delicious and maintained a very good standard (not quite as good as their unique, rustic a la carte menu, but it's impossible to acheive the same level of finish en masse). The restaurant at woodstock is called Coterie and is in the unique semi circular building where the reception was held. The space features an open fire in the middle of the inner wall. On Friday evenings they do a pizza night, nom, nom, sundays they have live jazz and there are Llamas over the back fence! Great novelty factor. I would not hesitate to recommend woodstock as a must-do Mclaren Vale destination. If you're into rose - the Grenache rose is one of the best Reds - The stocks Shiraz is a boys fave my pick may be the Octogenarian, grenache tempranillo
