Authentic Italian atmosphere prevails - by which I mean the loud and animated conversations in Italian between the owner and the staff (which were very entertaining!) Check out the garlic bread, which is a massive pizza-style slice with a light covering of tomato (almost a proto-pizza in fact). If I had one complaint, it would be that the tables are too small. We struggled to accommodate all the accoutrements for four people at our tiny round table, which resulted in the owner knocking a glass of water all over one of our party, who then had to suffer a wet crotch for the rest of the evening. But apart from that incident, it was a very reasonably-priced and tasty meal.

Went here after reviews to my family from my regular-Italy-adventurer uncle came here twice in less than a week on his honeymoon last summer. When you walk in , it seems so tiny, but don't be fooled! It extends quite a way! They housed 12 of us, happily, service was quick, the staff were lovely and they catered for my PICKYDAFTBUTT of a little brother who requested this drink, and received in in less than two minutes: "Ouzo made long with water, with two ice cubes and a couple of whole coffee beans floating in it", -Seriously. I had the tuna, they asked how I wanted it, which so many places don't, and it was genuinely perfect. Absolutely huge menu, carafes of wine, and my half-Italian cousin in law thoroughly approved of everything too. Plus they passed the tiramisu test! Totally, well and truly recommended!

Further at the back is where the pizzas are being made and served. They had some really nice and reasonably priced beers on. They also had a board with the beers and prices which I always like. I chose half a porter which I have forgotten the name of and then it was pizza time. We wanted one that was called American something and had pulled pork on it but were told the pork had run out. They offered to replace with chicken/ham/bacon but that didn't sound as appealing so our second choice was a ham and pineapple as I appear to have come full circle and now love pineapple as a pizza topping again. This was £7.50 for a decent size pizza and was really tasty, though maybe a bit too saucy. I'm not sure I would come here specifically for pizza, but I imagine it's a good place to meet with a group of friends. I would definitely come back for beer and would probably end up ordering pizza, if that makes any sense.

On our first day in York, we embarked on the original walking ghost tour, which led us through the city's winding streets and ended near a small, unassuming Italian restaurant--Caesar's. It had that quiet charm--quaint, understated, inviting. It reminded me of the little trattorias in Positano and Sorrento, where simplicity is a sign of confidence rather than compromise. That fleeting moment stuck with me. I asked my kids on our final night in York what they wanted for dinner, the unanimous answer was Italian. I turned to Yelp, browsed through options, but nothing felt quite right. Then I remembered Caesar's. I searched for reviews--only old ones, nothing recent. Was it a hidden gem, or had it lost its spark? I wasn't convinced either way, but something told me it was worth a shot. We took a walk through the city, considering different Italian spots along the way. One looked too formal, another had an unkempt exterior, yet another had a menu that felt uninspired. As we neared York Minster, the bells began to ring--a soaring melody that followed us down the street. A sign, perhaps? We arrived. The menu was simple--pastas, pizzas, antipasto, fresh bread, classic desserts. No pretense, just honest Italian fare. I decided to trust my instinct: At the very least, I'll give it a recent review. Inside, the décor was humble--Italian posters, Italian music playing softly in the background. We were seated right by the window. Our order: Pepperoni pizza Margherita pizza with prosciutto Pasta Bolognese Caesar salad Fresh bread basket Lasagna The food took a little time to arrive, but for good reason. When it did, everything was piping hot, fresh, and generous in portion. The bread looked homemade. The salad had chunks of cheese--possibly Pecorino Romano. The pizzas were huge--easily shareable. We could have gotten by with just one. My son, clearly delighted, licked his pasta bowl clean and used the remaining sauce to make a makeshift sandwich with the bread. Then came my lasagna. It arrived bubbling in a baking dish, too hot to dive into immediately. I waited, watching my family enjoy their meals--like any good mamma would. The first bite transported me--back to Positano, 16 years ago, hungry and pregnant, savoring a plate of pasta arrabbiata with a side of mussels. I remember tossing the mussels into the pasta, creating my own dish, and nearly crying at how perfect it was. That feeling--the comfort, the fullness, the warmth--came rushing back with every bite of Caesar's lasagna. This is home-style Italian. It's the kind of meal that fills not just your stomach but your spirit. The kind where you can taste the love in every dish. So if you're searching for a meal that feels like home--where the food is made with care, where simplicity is celebrated, where you leave not just satisfied but happy--then Caesar's is your place. It's as if Nonna herself was in the kitchen, cooking for you. Grazie, Caesar's, per la meravigliosa cena! - Famiglia Paoluccio
