Straight out…read moreof the Goodfellas, thick accent, wife beater, gold chains, etc. He has more money from his construction business than he knows what to do with. He's in his twilight years of working so these days he mostly spends his time making his own red wine from scratch, hunting turkeys, and growing vegetables in his garden. He clears the vibe check. I'm yapping now, but all this to say he picked Il Gatto E La Volpe for dinner so I knew this food was gonna SMACK. We started with margherita pizzas for the table, arrancini, calamari, and a couple bottles of red wine picked by Uncle Dan. My Mom got the gnocchi bolognese, which I knew I would get 80% of as she eats like a mouse, so I went with the Florentine steak. I hate to be corny and say "everything was sensational," but everything was sensational so Imma leave it at that. My favorites were the gnocchi bolognese and arrancini though, as I had never seen gnocchi bolognese on a menu. It honestly should be a more common dish. I'm making a prediction that by 2029, gnocchi bolognese will be a standard item on all Italian menus. Service was great, vibes were up, and this was just a great place to enjoy some much needed family time over some red wine. These haters got me stressed. SHOUTOUT TO UNCLE DAN! From the moment you walk in, it feels like a true neighbourhood staple -- warm, welcoming, and buzzing with energy. This is the kind of spot where you can tell people have been coming for years... and for good reason. The menu hits all the right notes Think perfectly cooked pastas, rich sauces, and portions that don't hold back. The veal dishes are a standout, and if you're into classic Italian mains, you're in for a treat. Everything feels homemade, hearty, and consistent. Service here is on point -- friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Pro tip: Great for family dinners or casual business lunches -- it's reliable, quick, and always satisfying. Overall: Romano's isn't trying to be trendy -- and that's exactly why it works. It's authentic, comforting, and one of those places you keep coming back to.

The Chef owner Romano came to great us at the table and to me that speaks volumes about how much he cares about his customers. I ordered the orecchiette and they were perfectly cooked and delicious with the sausage flavored and tender. My sister-in law had the veal and it was cooked to perfection. Appetizers were all off the chart. Loved the decor and it was just so much fun! Love it!!!

Food (3.75/5) - they have a good selection of items on the menu and a couple of specials of the day as well. - Vitello ai Funghi - veal cutlets in a seared assorted mushroom and white wine sauce. It was just ok imo... the veal was a bit chewy and not tender as I was expecting. Sauce is ok bit understated. - Tortellini alla Bolognese - veal filled tortellini in a homemade Bolognese sauce. This was a nice dish with a nice flavourful Bolognese and tortellini cooked properly. - Cozze Marinara - mussels in a marinara sauce with garlic, onion and herbs. Cooked properly and a pretty good broth to dip bread into. - Complimentary bruschetta with a sauteed pepper/onion garnish was provided - not great imo... too dry and lacked flavour. Service (4.5/5) - pretty strong and service-oriented. Seated quickly and well attended multiple times by server and assistant. Atmosphere (4.25/5) - it is quite small with maybe 10 tables total. White tablecloth and wood look... quiet place designed for dates and families. Overall (4/5) - It is a solid Italian restaurant overall. I can see it being popular with locals looking for a quiet dinner spot. I was hoping the food would be more extraordinary however could be the selection of items we had.

We started with the fried calamari. It was really crispy and hot. Came out quick too. We ordered a few pastas. The pasta with meat balls was our favourite. The mushroom ravioli was good but started tasting a bit sweet after eating half of it. We also had the sausage pasta and enjoyed that too. Seats about 40 to 50 people so make a reservation on the weekend. Warm tasty pasta with bold comforting flavours, perfect for when you have an Italian food craving. Service is great too. They helped us read the Italian menu. Kept refilling our water and brought out some bread to start the meal. Nice clean washroom too.

An Unforgettable Evening at Zafferano Ristorante…read more Last night, we had the pleasure of celebrating two of our family members at Zafferano Ristorante. Although we're not from Toronto and had never been to this restaurant before, our friends had booked a large section of the venue for over 30 guests--so we really didn't know what to expect. What followed was nothing short of amazing. We started the evening with some beautifully crafted cocktails. The drinks were delicious, and our waiter was quick to offer creative twists on our usual favourites--setting the tone for the night ahead. When it came time to sit down for dinner, the experience only got better. They kept bringing out plate after plate until we could barely move! The food was phenomenal: every dish was full of flavour, perfectly served at the right temperature, and visually stunning. A special shoutout to our waiter, Alex. He was outstanding--attentive without being intrusive, always ensuring our glasses were full and that every new course arrived with perfect timing. It was an incredible night and the perfect way to kick off our vacation. We left with full stomachs, happy hearts, and memories we'll talk about for a long time.

The meal kicked off with some nice warm, bread that was crusty on the outside and moist on the inside. We shared a few appetizers including Burratina, Gnocco Frito, and Margharita Pizza. The pizza had a nice mildly spicy sauce which made for a very delicious pizza. The Gnocco was fried pizza dough balls with garlic, Parmesan and a drizzle of honey. It normally comes with Prosciutto but we ordered it without to make it vegetarian. The mix of flavours was really unique and delicious. The Burrata was good but the other two appetizers stood out more. For entrees, we had the Spaghetti Genovese and the Stuffed Gnocchi. Both were excellent. Highly recommend this place.

A local establishment which has been around for some time…read more I came here with a group of 10 people for dinner. First i noticed the place has been updated a bit and new management. Service here was excellent. From arrival we were seated and served with excellent timing. The atmosphere has been updated from a few years ago but not overly done. Had the salami and cheese board to start. Unfortunately my least favorite dish of the night and I hope they fix it. Fried calamari was beautiful. Crisp and not oily. Served hot and plenty of it for an appetizer. Then we moved to the pasta which was beautiful. Well made and well plated. Not just a hunk of pasta in a bowl. So portions of pasta are normal size for Toronto but not the usual heaping bowl typical of Woodbridge. The steak dinner was made to order. Nice and well seasoned. For dessert I had the Tiramisu which was made in a modern dome and had a bit of gelato on the side. Very impressed. Espresso was spot on. Overall well priced for what we got as a group with everything. Great place for all occasions including family. Happy with the new management. I hope they do well here. Give them a visit if you havent been in a while.
