Pasta Volare is a new, local business that runs out of a residence. I stopped my scroll when…read moremindlessly perusing Instagram because their fresh pasta just looked SO good. They change their menu weekly, every Sunday, which includes long pasta, short pasta, filled pasta, sauces, focaccia, and a meal kit with a mix of everything. This week's menu included: - Long pasta: Tagliatelle or pappardelle - Short pasta: Cavatelli or fusilli - Filled pasta: Scarpinocc di Taleggio e fungi (Taleggio cheese and mushroom) or tortellini quattro fromaggio (four cheese) - Sauces: Pomodoro (tomato based), Cornish hen ragu (tomato based), seasonal mushroom (cream based), Genovese pistachio pesto, or herb butter - Focaccia: Large or small - Tutti tipi di pasta: Kit including pappardelle, fusilli, scarpinocc, tortellini, seasonal mushroom sauce, Cornish hen rage, Genovese pistachio pesto, herb butter, and large focaccia The long and short pastas are 150 grams per portion and $7 each, the scarpinocc and tortelloni come in a pack of 12 and are $15 each, and each order of sauce is for two portions, varying prices between $5 and $15. The small focaccia is $5 and the large is $12. They take orders Sunday to Wednesday for Thursday to Saturday delivery or pickup. Pickup is free in Barrhaven after 3pm and delivery is $5 within a 10km radius from 3-5pm. They also advised that the fresh pasta is best enjoyed the day of order or the next day, and the filled pasta comes freshly frozen and can be kept up to two months in freezer. I have a real soft spot for fresh pasta, so knowing it was homemade locally and two types of pastas I had never tried before, and just being gluttonous and greedy ol' me, I ordered tagliatelle, cavatelli, scarpinocc, and tortelloni pastas, pomodoro, mushroom, pesto, and herb butter sauces, and a small focaccia. I basically customized my own kit and it came out to $89, a dollar cheaper than the tutti tipi di pasta one they had already put together. It was all just for me, not gonna lie. I ordered earlier in the week through a private message on their Instagram and they responded right away. They asked if I had any allergies, what my phone number was, and gave me the total price and e-mail address to send the e-transfer. I originally thought I would have it delivered since the charge was so cheap, but they sent me the address and I ended up picking it up instead. I picked it up and it came in two paper bags (with sweet thank you messages!), one for the cardboard boxes of pasta and the other for the plastic containers of sauces and the bread. There was also a little message on one of the bags to just put the pasta in the freezer and cook from frozen. It was super quick to pick up and I was really excited to get home. It was hard to decide which pasta to each for dinner tonight with which sauce, but I ended up going with the four cheese tortelloni and pesto. They also come with an instruction sheet on how to cook the pasta and incorporate the sauces, which I found very helpful. The tortelloni were made perfectly, just a little tangy, and not overly stuffed or heavy, perfect portion. The pistachio pesto was a touch bitter, also perfect and I licked the spoon multiple times before even mixing it with the pasta. I decided to try the focaccia just on its own and it was soft and moist with some salt. I warmed it up slightly in the toaster oven and used some of the herbed butter (which came in a huge, very generous portion). It was all exactly what I wanted, exactly what I expected, and so incredibly satisfying. Can't wait to try the other pastas and sauces (and finish all the focaccia)!

I'll start by saying I only had the pizza. The lunch meal deal is 15 Canadian dollars and includes…read morea small salad and a drink. I came in about 2:30 PM. Server was very nice. Now, in general pizza in Ottawa is not very good. So if this were elsewhere this pizza would be a 2/5. For Ottawa, it is a solid 3 out 5 maybe even a 4/5 but I can't rate Ottawa's mediocre pizza that high. The pizza was well cooked so 5/5 on the bread part. Ottawa uses a weird cheese blend that never seems fully melted and kinda gritty. 2/5 for cheese. Sauce, like all Ottawa pizza sauce too sweet. 2/5. Pepperoni though nicely crisped. 5/5. It seems Boston Pizza is not well rated in Ottawa but this branch MIGHT be ok for food, and certainly is good for pizza. In my Ottawa pizza reviews I'd rank the following: 1) Colonade Pizza 2) The pizza at the cafeteria at Carleton University 3) Pizza Pizza in Kanata 4) This Boston Pizza 5) Domino's in Barrhaven - Not good 6) Little Cesar's in Barrhaven - Terrible

I decided to customize the pizza with the following extra toppings: -Spinach -Chicken -Roasted red peppers While the pizza flavour was good, the amounts of the extra toppings was a joke. 5 leaves of spinach, about 12 cubes or rubber texture like chicken, and the red peppers were fixed but hardly roasted. Honestly I do not feel there was value in this pizza at all. I likely won't be ordering from here again.
