Reedsburg PL... In…read morerecent times, McDonald's has been undergoing something of a renaissance into trying to become some odd upscale Starbucks-a-like, and in doing so, as a parent, I've been disappointed to see a number of nice playlands disappear. McDonald's seems to have forgotten that they have the playland market cornered... so anyways, I've decided to review some and share some hints for other parents. You ever have your kids wake up in the Dells, all excited and ready to go... and it's not even 6AM? No chance of getting them back to sleep! Well, that happens to us sometimes, and it's inconvenient since most things in the Dells don't open until a bit later. So after burning a little time with baths and getting dressed and bouncing off the walls, I loaded them in the car, and we went in search of a playland. I knew that there was one in Baraboo, but we've been there before. SO we went west, and discovered this location. It's almost straight out of a time machine... it's the way I remember McDonald's from 20 years ago. It's got a modest but nice playland area inside a giant addition on the front of the building. The playland was clean and well maintained; someone had actually painted the ductwork colors to make it look like it was a bit larger than it actually was. It had an aura that welcomed kids, something that I find missing at certain McDonalds locations. The food was not messed up, the staff was friendly. McDonald's should pay attention and know that this is why I'm willing to load the kids into the car, drive some miles, and spend money on breakfast in their restaurants... sometimes you just need a place to let the kids burn off some energy before they get to go somewhere to burn off more energy.

It was so GOOD! Loaded with meat and fresh toppings and lovely toasted ciabatta bread made this sandwich excellent. Lots of table seating. Patio for warmer days. Easy path on/off freeway. Service was excellent. There was one person handling the orders, bussing, etc and he was great. So welcoming for our first visit while we decided what we wanted. Great stop.

When you enter, you walk straight ahead to the counter to order. It has a large dining area with plenty of natural light from the large windows. The design is upbeat and fun. When we arrived, around 1pm, there were only a few small groups. We got to order right away, a couple of salads and iced tea. They give you a number placard, which you take to the table, and then they deliver the food. The server was pleasant and helpful. It was cold and windy outside, and unfortunately it wasn't much warmer inside. We went to find a table somewhere warm and not made colder by the doors that led directly outside, since there is no vestibule. No luck, the place was just cold. Good thing I had my knit hat. After a short while, we got our two salads. I got the Empire Pecan Salad, and my partner got the Southwest Chicken Salad. They looked great. Plenty of mixed ingredients, good portions, and everything was fresh. Much of the time when you get a good salad, it's only the top layer and everything below is lettuce. These salads were full of tasty stuff all the way to the bottom. Might be one of the best salads I have had in this class of restaurants. So our visit was mixed. The food was very good, but it was so cold inside that it made things uncomfortable. Even though we were away from the front door, there is a side door that people kept exiting from, and the cold air just blew right through the place. We would come back, just not during the cold months.
