OK, first of all, I'm a food critic. I worked in executive five star dining and I know several…read moreMichelin chefs. But, every once in a while, even a guy like me wants to order a delivery pizza. At first, I was told, "no" they would not delivered to me. Because I am 1 mile outside of their radius. The young guy I spoke with recommended instead that I called Lake Placid Papa John's which is ridiculous because I'm exactly 30 seconds south of Highway 98. I think the guy was just trying to pass the buck. However, I called Lake Placid and they also said I was outside their delivery radius and that made a lot more sense to me because it would be like calling Denver, Colorado and asking for a pizza to be delivered to Florida. So what do you do? I ended up calling the Sebring location back and asked for the manager. I got Lexi on the phone. That was the manager's name. She was a young lady, but she seemed intelligent and open minded, because when I explain the circumstances to her she said, "yeah that is ridiculous" I also explain to Lexi about how much money they were losing out on because they were not willing to extend their delivery radius to the entire Sebring area. They were missing out on business from all of the people south of HCA hospital now if you think about it that's a lot of people and a lot of money to be missing out on. The radius gap between the Sebring delivery area and the Lake Placid delivery area does not touch. This means there is a huge gap where they are missing all of the Spring Lake and all of the people who live just off Highway 66. Ridiculous! I mean, if I'm a business owner and I have a pizza business, I'm gonna make sure that I cover the entire Sebring area because I'm not about to miss out on money from people because of a 1 mile extra driving radius. Lexi went on to explain to me that she was going to go ahead and allow the delivery, but she also told me that she could not guarantee that every manager would make the same choice at Papa John's. I agreed that that was likely to happen and I understood. Now the pizza: there are a lot of pizzas in this town and a lot of these guys who make them are from New York City so you're not missing out on good quality pizza here in Sebring. I will say that most of the time the sauce is very acidic no matter where you go. Papa John's sauce, which I have not had in sometime, at least 20 years has a definite sweetness. It had a good aroma, and while not punched with herbs it did satisfy the palate in a balanced way. I enjoy the sweetness that they have in their sauce whether they slow cook the onions or just added a little sweetener to the sauce. both are fine it's a matter of taste. Italians will choose one or the other. They all typically use their onions to gain this type of exposure in the flavor by a quick sear and sauté of the onions to gain a bolder aroma, or a slow cook of the onions in order to sweeten them. We ordered the new New York style pizza, and while there is not a consistency in the two pizzas we received the first one was more New York style in the crust. Well, the second one was denser and the crust endings were not equal in size, thickness, or make, but for a commercial pizza, it filled the stomach. In this review, I am complementing the manager more than anything for her ability to deliver to us. You often do not see this in commercial businesses. They are usually very stoic and black-and-white on their terms. For Lexi to think outside the box and be willing to make a personal judgment was appreciated. She was a good manager, and she is being recognized for that purpose. You hardly see this ever so kudos to you Lexi, and thank you for being a good manager!

This time we went to see how the pasta was. One of us got the specialty " Mr. Sammys Classic"…read morepizza. One got pasta and meatballs. They did not get the extra sauce they ordered but used what came with meatballs. The location is laid back, plenty of seating. The staff is very personable and service is good. The meatballs are big and very good. The pasta is a good size but the sauce had an odd taste. Not a fan of it. The bread is not garlic rolls which would have been good, it was sticks of dough baked and topped with garlic butter and sprinkle cheese. Dishes come with it but no salad . Expensive at $16 plus. The pizza is fresh made hand flipped dough. It is good, one of the better around but $20 and up. We will go back for a meatball sub to see how that is.

The size was appropriate for one person (personal size on menu) but the flavor was just not there. Would I order it again if we choose to return? Prob not. My wife had the eggplant, they give you a side of spaghetti I'm thinking because the portion size of the eggplant is kinda small. Mostly cheese and spinach and a hint of eggplant. She enjoyed it, took home the spaghetti only to discard at a later date. We visited on a Friday night, the place was busy, and I have to say it's like being on set of Ramsey . The yelling from one person, not sure if he was the owner or not but really? I'm not talking about raised voice, towering yelling voice yelling to his wait staff, get the telephone, you are on the phones tonight get to it, this order that order. Instant yelling to the wait staff was like OMG!!! I be would not return because of this. Sitting in that restaurant trying to eat with what sounded like a spoiled child was absolutely unpleasant. New York style pizza is supposed to be about the food not the ignorance and arrogance of the New Yorker.

Hurricane Irma dealt them a heavy blow and their legions of loyal customers were seriously worried, but they bounced back and are as awesome as ever! Arriving- Easy peasy to find with no tricks or challenges. The parking is adequate, and I've never had a problem. Ambience- It's a deli folks! Huge blackboards show you the extensive menu. I gave you a pic of just one of several panels. Tables, a covered patio, and a counter that seats about 40 folks all together. Note that the counter has a couple of power outlets for a quick phone charge. Nice! Pro Tip- They have their own Wi-Fi, but I didn't bother asking for the password as I connected to the nearby Xfinity Hot Spot. Customer Service- You order and pay at the counter. The drinks are serve-yourself. If you are eating in, someone will drop off your food at your table but there really isn't table service. All the folks that have touched me over several visits have been just fine. Food- I'm addicted to the Rachel! It's like a pastrami Reuben but with Cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. I guess sauerkraut was a little too strong for Rachel! I added fries and a small fountain drink, and the pre-tip tab was about $16. I've had this exact lunch several times and it always blows me away. Savory pastrami and crisp, fresh Cole slaw on toasted rye makes an excellent sandwich. The piping hot fries were well cooked. I was stuffed and smiling as usual. An easy 4-stars!

From the…read moremoment I walked in, I was treated like I didn't belong the woman who took my order was rude and dismissive, and the way she spoke to me compared to other customers was completely different. My family has been in South Florida for generations, so to be treated like I'm some outsider was insulting. As for the food? Absolutely terrible. The chicken was dry, salty, and clearly frozen definitely not fresh. For the prices they charge, you'd expect way better quality. Meanwhile, the family seated next to us was treated like royalty: their food was brought out to them, they were asked if they needed anything else, while we were shouted at across the deli like farm animals. And to top it all off there was mold in the ice machine. That alone is enough reason to never go back. This place was a total disappointment, and I'll never eat here again.

I was honored to be the 1st to review these fine folks way back in 2019. Now, it's time to review…read moretheir cheesesteaks. After years of devouring hundreds of cheesesteaks from dozens of different shops all over the country, I am proud to announce that I have been awarded the coveted CCC designation. That's right, I am now A Certified Cheesesteak Connoisseur! What's a CCC you ask? We sneak into sandwich shops without announcing ourselves and deliver unbiased cheesesteak reviews on Yelp! That was my assignment today at this location. Of course, I was in disguise. Arriving- From US Route 27, just look for the Lowes signage. They kind of share a parking lot. Parking is usually easy peasy. The App- It's solid and I have two comments. 1.- It doesn't have a "Dine In" option which drives me crazy as other chains have it. 2.- The "Customization" section allows for special requests, which is a much-appreciated feature! Wi-Fi- There doesn't appear to be customer Wi-Fi, but Xfinity folks will be happy that there is a hotspot nearby. Ambience- They have a couple of tiny tables outside which are basically in The Lowe's parking lot with tiny umbrellas. I'd rather have a root canal with no pain meds that eat outside here! Inside there is a line of 2-tops against a wall and you'll find yourself uncomfortably close to the folks waiting in line to order. It's clear that this is a mostly take-out place. As expected, everything is spotless. Customer Service- I've been here many times, and everyone has always been extremely friendly and courteous, so 5 stars. Cheesesteaks- They have tons of different hot & cold subs, but this is a BEEF cheesesteak only review. I used the app and there are four varieties available all with the standard 8" at about $11. You can customize quite a bit but if you go into the shop to order you can do just about anything! For this visit I ordered the Big Kahuna. Beef and extra white American cheese (not Cheez Whiz) along with red & green peppers, onions, mushrooms and jalapenos. It was ready on the pickup shelf when I arrived. OMG, see my picture! This was a monstrous, 5-napkin sammich. Hard to eat because of the amount of fillings but true cheesesteak connoisseurs will drool! If you are a cheesesteak aficionado, the elephant in the room is the roll. This is not an Amoroso roll (Philly readers know what I mean), but it is very good and baked fresh several times a day. The beef was grilled nicely, juicy & tasty, with no fatty chewy pieces and the taste and amount of cheese was spot on. The veges were fresh and an appropriate amount. This was definitely a top-shelf sandwich. I had a food orgasm with every bite! Value- This is one of the most satisfying cheesesteaks you can get from a chain shop! Sometimes you can get a bigger sandwich from a private shop, but the quality and customer service can be hit or miss. Conclusion- If you desire to be a CCC like me, tough, I made it up! This is at least a 4.0-star cheesesteak and probably 4.5. If you're not in Philly, it's among the best you can devour! When you add in the service, cleanliness and value, I'm going 5 stars for the beef cheesesteaks!
