Now, having a restaurant option that is 5 minutes away is a welcome treat. We went in on a Wednesday evening. It was late, probably too late to take our kiddo out, but this time of year is busy. After a day full of school and sports, we needed dinner. Papa Magoos was on our way home, so we gave it a shot. I walked in and almost immediately wanted to leave. It was 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night, there were maybe 15 people in the restaurant area, and there was a DJ blasting tunes loud enough that you couldn't have a conversation at your own table. Kind of an odd play for a Wednesday night, but maybe I'm just too old. Fortunately, we asked the waitress if we could sit in the side room with some video games - a much quieter area. Another couple had their kids there and all of the kids bonded over the hockey table. Service was great - our waitress was very attentive, honest about recommendations, and didn't steer us wrong. For an appetizer, we started with cheese curds paired with their ranch, buffalo, and marinara. Let me tell you - the cheese curds were a solid 8 out of 10 - but the portion size was huge. It's by far the largest order of curds we have ever received. I almost wished it was smaller because they were so good we ate the whole order - and it was just too much! All of the sauces were delicious. After those curds, my wife and I decided to split eight wings and fries, and the kiddo got a hot dog off of the kids menu. The bone-in the wings were served naked, as in just fried with skin on - no breading. The wings were enormous - and after those curds, we ate only two. We got four tossed in buffalo and four plain, with Garlic Parmesan and Mango Habanero on the side. The buffalo is a bit nontraditional looking, but it's excellent. The Mango Habanero was also nontraditional looking, but it was decent as well - but don't expect a lot of heat; it's sweeter, and the buffalo was hotter. The Garlic Parm was my least favorite, but it wasn't bad. We had to order a basket of fries on the side - which was entirely too much, but the fries are really good - straight cut, done a bit well and topped with some kind of salty seasoning and parsley. The kid's hot dog was not bad - it was served on a bun that was just a bit too big and fancy for my 6-year-old, and the hot dog itself was either overcooked or had a tough skin that I had to cut with a knife for him. Either way, it tasted good and came with a generous portion of fries. Two fountain drinks, a water, and a 20% tip came out to $60. It's not the cheapest, but that's the world we live in today. I could have saved $8 or so by not getting the huge order of fries with the wings. I've been taking a break from alcohol for a bit - but I did notice they had a slightly above par selection of craft beer on draft. Mostly IPAs, but at least it's not just Green Line from Goose. They had selections from Buckle-Down, Lagunitas, Revolution, and cans from Will County, among others. Don't worry, all your favorite macro lagers are here too. Papa Magoos definitely exceeded expectations - and I'll be back to try different things on the menu. Bonus that it's a short drive away in an area that is pretty much a desert of restaurant

I looked over the menu and I was in a chicken mood but didn't order their wings. I chose the Hilltopper, a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. For some reason it comes on Texas toast while nearly all other sandwiches come on ciabatta or brioche. I switched to brioche. I chose the fresh cut fries as a side dish. When the sandwich comes out, I'm immediately questioning if I ordered the right dish. I wasn't impressed. There are no condiments and no LTO either, just chicken bacon, cheese and pickles, on a dry bun. The fries were clearly not fresh cut, as they looked to be similar to Wendy's. The taste of the sandwich is OK, mainly because of the cajun spices. While my colleagues enjoyed their food, selection is sort of limited here if you're avoiding fried foods, otherwise I would have selected the wings which they're sort of famous for.

We ordered fried pickles which came out fresh and hot, which was great! Our mains which were the boneless combo came out cold, even though we had to wait on one entree because the kitchen sauced them wrong, so i'm wondering how something could be fresh yet cold. Unfortunately our server Bethany Ann wasn't very attentive to our table as she was some other patrons in the restaurant, so about 10-15 minutes after our alcoholic beverages hit the table I was able to tell her we weren't fans of them and asked to replace them with a mule. She told me because they are specialty drinks she could not take them back, and she didn't talk about replacing them. I have never heard of this rule in my years of dinning so I wondered if it was specific to Hooters, unfortunately I didn't get to ask management in person so if someone could confirm or deny that statement, it would be appreciated! We also ordered them at the same time we did our appetizer and entree and didn't get our drinks until 10-15 minutes after our appetizer hit the table. I was unfortunately disappointed in my experience today
