We like this Pizza Express - quite small but good service and in a nice spot on the High Street.

Ambiance, service and pizza terrific! I will be back. That being said the rest was so much better than that, that I can't wait to return. Hubby had Meat Sofia pizza & it was delicious!! As were the crispy noodles they serve as snack before ordering. Again topnotch service & I can't wait to try for 5 stars!!!

When you enter the restaurant, there are two dining areas: one near the front of the restaurant and closer to the bar and the other one further back. The area close to the bar gets a lot of foot traffic between the staff going back and forth to the bar and patrons entering the restaurant. So far the food has been pretty mediocre. I have ordered the ravioli al funghi di bosco and the spaghetti alla bolognese. The ravioli was yummy but i wish there was a bit more sauce that came with it. The bolognese was positively average. I felt like this was on par with hamburger helper. The goddess olives, which are available as a starter, are really good. I normally don't like eating olives unless they are on a pizza, but these olives taste practically buttery. Zizzi's also has a seasonal beer selection. It's nice to taste relatively fresh beer from Italy that I'd never heard of before. I had the Amarcord La Gradisca beer and was pleasantly surprised. The wait staff are friendly and helpful.

We had the sharing chicken kebab which was amazing, cooked in the wood fired oven gives it a really smoky taste. The fish and chips were superb, really crispy batter and just enough chips which were cooked to perfection. The kids had pizzas which they described as the best pizza ever. This pub is great for larger groups and families, the kids playground has to be the best in the area. An added bonus is the ice cream cart selling really delicious Italian ice cream. We look forward to our next visit.

What makes a true village pub? Well, how about one that's owned by its village: The Jolly Farmer in…read morethe centre of Cookham Dean. Faced with the insidious march of Beefeater conversions and gastro-pubs, fifty intrepid villagers bought The Jolly some 20 years ago with the simple objective of keeping it as a local. At the time, it made the national press, slightly derisively, but, with time, it's proved to be a huge success. It's still a free-house, the restaurant is still an add-on to the main bar and, good or bad, it's still frequented by a large number of villagers. You might be surprised by the number of brass medallions hanging by the log fireplaces, the number of strange old bottles surrounding the bar, and the photos of locals from previous generations supping ale on the adjoining village green but, equally, you might be relieved to find that a fast disappearing example of a genuine British pub still survives.
