We went to Zizzi for our Christmas party, not a huge lot to say other than The manager was great, service was very slow considering it wasn't hugely busy and food was mediocre. Beef wellington calzone was vey tough and "fatty" Pig and blanket bomb was mainly a garlic bread Pizza was average Tiramisu was bland Calamari was very good - only thing I can recommend First time visiting wouldn't be in a rush to go back. read more

My husband and I stumbled across this gem of a restaurant tonight while we walked around Oxford looking for a decent place to eat. The menu tempted us in, and the food delivered on its promise. Everything from start to finish was outstanding. The appetizer, the wine, the entrée, and the dessert all delighted us with nuanced flavors and delicate yet hearty offerings. My shrimp were cooked perfectly and served in a creative manner. The calzone's pastry was a delectable work of art, as was its stuffing. My husband loved his chicken pasta, and we both fell into throes of culinary ecstasy over the honeycomb cheesecake. A light, smooth Sauvignon Blanc perfectly accompanied each dish. I hope the same items will be on the menu when I return to Oxford next summer. And I hope Frederika (sp?) will still be there. She provided excellent service. read more

Passed by this place on the main road and loved it! The inside is so cool, they leave a big space open so the breeze comes in, you can step out of the space right back onto the sidewalk! I also loved the fairy lights outside. A lot of vegetarian/vegan options, service was good (he memorized our table's orders I was amazed) and the food was fresh and very good! Also reasonably priced. I wouldn't mind coming here again and trying something new. Tonight I had the spaghetti pomodoro with penne and a class of Pinot Grigio. read more

So glad they have one of these in Oxford, although it gets much less love as it's on the edge of George Street. Nice food, as most will know since this is a chain. The chewy speck-based Trentino Rustica is especially delicious, although the rest of the food is quite good as well. Most of my pasta is ordinary, such as the Bolognaise and I couldn't say that my pesto pasta was all that jazz. I couldn't quite give it 4 stars as I think Jamie's right across the street does better food in general, often for a better price if you opt for the option of a slightly smaller portion. Plus the wait staff here is less than friendly. I think it would serve them well to have a lunch menu as this place is never very packed for dinner and a slightly more affordable Italian lunch would surely be appreciated by many! read more

Zizzi is a chain restaurant, doing quite generic Italian food, but it's about time we stopped using that as a criticism, as it does it very well. You can have a pizza and a drink for under £10, making this ideal for parties, students, families or those on a budget. There's pizza and pasta - nothing particularly unusual, but all very well cooked and in generous portions. It's not at all greasy and they specialise in thin-crust pizzas, so more room for pudding! The atmosphere inside is definitely a cut above Pizza Hut and can almost pass for romantic if you go on a quiet night. Just watch out for big groups, as it can get quite noisy and bustling. The staff are friendly and efficient, and all in all it's a pleasant experience. A word of warning though: Before you feel too happy about going here, have a look at what 'Zizzi' means in French!! read more

I've been to Zizzi in various towns - it's a fairly generic quality assured meal without much difference place to place. This was slightly different in that I experienced the most aggressive waitress in Oxford! We were there for a bite to eat over a business meeting and we were interupted time and time again and she made sure we all knew she was there! I don't want to be mean, the food was fine but she did turn a simple lunch into a bit of an ordeal! A few months ago we had a night out at Zizzi about twenty five of us for a meal. It was a very busy Saturday night and they were busy. We had booked the meal 2 months in advance. Upon arrival the staff had not even set up the tables so tried to put us all of three separate tables. The birthday girl was really upset as the whole point of the dinner was for us all to sit together and celebrate. They finally managed to sort out the tables after some complaint. Next the waitresses messed up everyones meal orders and drink orders. And to top is off one of the waitresses was very rude and quite obnoxious to some of the party. Then at the end of the meal when she bought the bill we complained about the service charge as their service had been appalling. The birthday girl was in tears and the staff stood there and argued with her about paying the charge, We refused to pay it anyway, but I wouldn't go back there if you paid me read more

Large restaurant, that has a decent Italian menu and offers good value for money. The menu is good, and goes beyond Pizza, with nice salads and pastas too. The pizza choice includes the classic, a skinny version with less than 500 calories and a 'Rustica', which is served on wooden board. The Rustica is quite a substantial pizza, and I would only attempt it if really hungry. The classic pizza is great, the dough is thin and crispy, the tomato sauce good, and the toppings are generous but not overwhelming. I tried to order the skinny pizza but I was discouraged from doing so by the waitress, who repeatedly warned me that it was 'very small'. I was surprised by her comments, but I caved into the pressure and ordered a classic, so I can't tell you if she is right! The wine choice was OK and it comes in a choice of small or large glass, bottle or a 500ml carafe, which I am a big fan of. The viognier we ordered was perfectly drinkable. Deserts were good, although the chocolate and banana calzone was a little disappointing. The dough was near impossible to attack with a spoon, and the desert was surprisingly small. Service was what I expect from a chain. Efficient, friendly but not particularly attentive. Overall I think there are far worse places to eat on George Street. It is affordable, efficient and this is a good place to go and grab a bite to eat if there are a few of you, but don't expect a fine dining or unique experience. read more

Literally think the homeless man down the street had a better meal than whatever I was given

Waited about 30min for entree and the arancini balls were very small and over cooked. Waited another 30mins for mains. My friend and I got the same pasta, mine was mainly sauce and hers appeared to include my pasta. My partners pasta was tasteless and barely had any meat in it. Dessert was tiramisu - large portions but mainly cream. Couldn't really tell there was coffee or booze in it. Only good thing was the wine. Probably wouldn't go back for the price it is. read more

WOW-EEE this place is VERY good. At very least the pizza's are very good. i would go as far as to say that this is the best pizza place in Oxford. I have been to Zizzi's three times. Although thought of as a pizzeria it does a nice array of steaks, calzones and salads too. I think the reason it is known as a pizza place is because the pizza's are so very good. In fact although every thing else looks very good too, i do not think i could go here and NOT order a pizza. They are very thin, crispy and just the way they were when i visited Italy. Although not quite as big, and trust me thats a GOOD thing. In fact portion sizes here are very generous and you do not need a starter. But of course, you will probably have one anyway. For my starter i had foccacia with goats cheese and aubergines and it was lovely and light and left room for my main. The pizza i chose was the Capricciosa (prosciutto ham, egg, anchovies) which was so tasty and all the ingredients accompanied eachother perfectly. I have tried other pizza's here (including my favourite which was the seafood one) but im afraid i cannot remember all the fancy italian names for them. :) Prices range from £5.15 to £9, so there is something for everyone here and that really is cheap for such good food. From what i could see the steaks etc looked very good but i would not like to comment until i can drag myself away from the delicious pizza :) The staff were very friendly and quick to notice if you needed them which was nice, and we did not feel rushed. In fact the last time i went i was in a birthday party of about 16 and yet the food was out quickly, there was no drama and the bill was spot on. Gerry and I have eaten here a couple of times, and sadly I've always found it pretty average. The food isn't bad - there's nothing to hugely criticise - but in all honesty I can't find anything really to differentiate Zizzi from Bella Pasta, Pizza Express and a myriad of other Italian chains. Decent food - and it helped us out when we needed something quickly before heading to the airport last year. But given the choice between 'yet another generic Italian' or, frankly, just about anything else - I'd choose something else. read more

Another of the chain restaurants in Oxford, Zizzi's is popular, especially with students for good food which is reasonably priced (for Oxford!). Located on George St, it has ample seating and is nicely decorated. The basement floor is ideal if you have a large group, often you can have the whole floor to yourself. I was a bit dissapointed as i have been to my local Zizzi's is really nice. It was about 6.30 on a Thursday evening and was packed. The starter of cheese garlic bread was lovely, i had the baked pasta dish with chicken, bacon for main and it was a little dry and over cooked. We waited a long time for our order to be taken and to pay the bill but food came out pretty quick. We did have a get 1 free voucher which made the bill really cheap. read more

Came here for appetizers. Not sure what was ordered since I got there late, but it was sort of a tapas plate with long breadsticks and different types of meat and cured vegetables. The food here is nice, but the service was not good at all. Last time I went here it was a lunch time. The restaraunt was very quiet- all of the tables around us were empty. We were asked twice by different members of staff once we were seated for our drinks order, however after this it was much more difficult to get the attention of the staff. We had to wait a long time to order, though the food did not take too long to come once we had. i had a four cheese pizza, which was nice but not the best I have ever had. The real problem was trying to pay- it took ages to get the bill, and longer still for someone to to take the money so we could get our change. Went here with Italian friend for birthday. Had Diavolo pizza converted to Rusticano (supposedly thinner with more topping) for +£1.95. It wasn't that thin and had a rim of about 3 inches with no topping. The tomato sauce was barely evident, the salami scant and the chilli tasteless. The base was lovely where it had browned at the edges but at almost £12, it was very poor value and I wouldn't go again. The caffè macchiato was lovely, so maybe it would be worth a coffee-visit. read more
