We came in for lunch in September 2021, before an afternoon matinee. We didn't have a reservation and we put our name in. They called us back in a shorter time than they predicted and we got a nice table by the window. This was my first time at a Pizza Express but my friends really like it. I was happy with the pizza (La Reine) and "specialty lemonade" (juice). They are crazy about the dough balls, which were delicious. The bathroom is downstairs. It was very crowded in the restaurant but we didn't have any issues with ordering or getting our food on time. We were able to get to the matinee nearby with plenty of time to settle in. read more

Pizza Express Covent Garden, London, England -- April 4 Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 ended up at Pizza Express Covent Garden after a long day exploring Covent Garden without reservations, just looking for something easy and available in a very busy area, and the overall experience felt more like a fallback than a win. Arrival and First Impressions The restaurant was packed but fairly well organized and we were seated quicker than expected given the crowds, with that typical tight theater district layout and a casual chain feel that works when you just need a place to land. The Highlights Food came out quickly which helped after a full day of walking and the kids were fine settling into simple pizza, even with some customization, and overall it served the basic purpose of getting everyone fed without much friction in a high traffic area. The Challenges This is where things slipped a bit. The food was just okay across the board with a pretty underwhelming salad that felt minimal at best, and one of the pizzas with spinach and feta leaned overly soft and floppy to the point of being hard to enjoy. The presentation was also oddly impractical with larger pizzas coming out on plates too small to cut them easily which made things more awkward than they needed to be. Kid options felt a little limited and not especially thoughtful, and overall nothing really stood out in a positive way. Final Thoughts This felt like a convenience stop more than anything memorable, and while it worked in the moment when options were limited and the area was packed, it is not somewhere we would go out of our way to return. Worth it only if you need something quick and easy in Covent Garden, but there are likely better options nearby if you have the time or a reservation. read more

We chose Pizza Express, Bow Street, today as we were in London for a show and my daughter has recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation but were quickly given a table. I told the waiter that my daughter needed gluten free and he he was great - it makes a huge difference when you know someone 'gets it'. I was also impressed by the amount of options she had. Food was great - quick and fresh. My daughter's meal was served on a different type of plate and came with a clean pizza cutter so we knew there was no cross contamination while cutting. Really decent pizza and an excellent children's meal that is super value! 3 courses for kids, with 4 dough balls so the parents can enjoy them (haha) plus a few crudités that are fresh and tasty, an entire small pizza and a Popsicle or other dessert! Plus a fun activity menu and colored pencils provided. The kids just loved it and begged to come back every day. My husband's pasta with chicken was too heavy on the cream sauce however. I'm a big fan of Pizza Express, especially for lunch! The Pollo Pesto pasta is savory and you can't help but eat the whole thing. I've tried the Margherita, Padana, and Il Padrino pizzas (on separate occasions of course) -- and my favorite is the Il Padrino. Not too sure if I'll order the Padana again... We had 40 minutes before the show started and empty tummies so we stopped in and asked the manager Kofil, who greeted us at the door, if we could get our food in time to make the opening. He promised us we could and bam! our server promptly took our order. Within 20 minutes, our delicious pie arrived. It was cooked to perfection and the basil was so very fresh and lovely. Not only did Kofil check on us but he also led me to the less-used upstairs bathroom so I could quickly freshen up before our show. We made it it to the venue with 10 minutes to spare. Wow! Delicious pie, reasonable prices, 5 star service and speed: what else could I possibly ask for a restaurant near the Royal Opera House. I will most definitely return! Stopped in here after a busy day of London sight seeing. We were seated right away by the friendly hostess, however it took about 15 mins for our waiter to show up. When he finally arrived he just stared at us I was so confused I waited a second for him to introduce himself and ask for our drink orders but nothing. I was hungry and didn't want to waste any more time so I just went ahead and told him what I wanted to drink and our food orders. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer and the prosciutto pizza to share. Thankfully the food was a lot better than the service. Everything was very fresh, and seemed close to authentic. Cannot fault this restaurant in terms of location, service or food. Our waitress was very friendly and polite without being fake (urgh, tgi fridays!) she even boxed up the rest of the pizza for later (something I never do but it was a good pizza!) It was good value even without a bogof voucher and the wait wasn't too long. It had a nice chilled out atmosphere just right for post theatre dining The one downside was the toilets and stairs down to them, the floor was covered with mud and damp which I thought quite dangerous esp on a spiral staircase and you were met with quite a bad smell at the bottom of the stairs! I unfortunately let my family talk me into eating here, and it unfortunately reminded me of everything that's bad about chain restaurants. The service was fast, but in the same way that a production line is fast, and the food was pretty much the same: clearly thrown together in a hurry with absolutely no love or passion. I didn't feel like eating a whole pizza base, so I tried one of their new Legarra pizzas with a hole in the middle, and a salad in the hole. The Vitabella is, according to their website, A colourful medley of fior di latte mozzarella, whole asparagus spears, mixed chargrilled vegetables, fresh red and yellow peppers and oregano. Sounds tasty. Actually, it was just a jumble of green leaves thrown into the middle of the pizza, with half an asparagus spear for good measure. On top of that, the base was spongy rather than crisp, and I imagine it was cooked from frozen. The food filled a hole, but gave me absolutely no pleasure. I suppose I have eaten worse, but not much. I left feeling dirty, and wishing I'd gone to one of the more authentic Italian restaurants in the area. I'd been in another Pizza Express in Manchester and liked it quite a lot, so when my boyfriend came to visit me in London i decided to bring him there and... I was surprised to see that the pizzas were different! the size was considerably smaller and they didn't looked and tasted as good as the other ones... I don't know if this normally happens,as it is a chain and they are supposed to be serving the same kind of food in every restaurant. Anyway, i think i'm not coming back again, you can get better pizzas for the same prize in other places or either make them yourself. read more

Ended up goin to the wrong PE in Covent Garden (we had a table booked for 8 people in the other one) and despite it being high noon for grub they sorted us out quickly. We proceeded to try an move the tables a bit and managed to smash a few glasses; staff were greata bout it, and even brough refills free of charge for the smashies - kudos! read more

I am quite the Pizza Express connoisseur, having been introduced to the chain back in 2001 by an ex-boyfriend. I'm sure I've been to at least 20 across the UK! The Covent Garden branch is about a fifteen-minute walk from the Charing Cross station, tucked behind Aldwych and many, many theatres. It tends to be very busy, most of the day, but we've still always managed to get a table. I'd often share a coke and mozzarella garlic bread with my ex, and then we'd have our own lasagnes. The waiters/waitresses must have thought we were poor, lol. And no, we weren't being romantic; we just weren't ever THAT hungry! The lasagne truly is the best thing on the menu and you haven't lived until you try it. The staff were always very pleasant and helpful, and the service prompt. This branch is definitely worth a visit, as the food is definitely value for money although I'd probably try to book a table beforehand as Covent Garden does get unpredictably busy these days. read more

PizzaExpress provides decent pizzas at a reasonable price. I love it when they add an egg on top the pizza of your choice, I normally do this special order without fail. They do the eggs anyway you like, cooked or runny! One pizza fill me up so it is quite a cheap dinner. The setting is casual and can be quite noisy not the mention the rowdy crowd. On the whole, it is good fun and worth a try. The bill normally comes up to about £15 to 20 pounds including drinks. They do a one for one offer sometimes, so keep your eyes peeled! read more

Exactly what you expect from a Pizza Express restaurant - busy, friendly, good value and great pizzas! Always go for the Romana base - they're thin and crispy and HUGE! The chicken and roasted pepper pizza (I forget the name) is delicious, as are all of the others I've tried.
