While the photos have admittedly swooned me my experience may have been tainted because this simply a must dine-in experience. So how did it taste? - There's a an art to a good pizza. The two prominent components that are always up for debate us the pizza sauce and the dough. That said, the pizza was flimsy. Well cooked but just lacked the texture I'm hoping for from a slice when I order thin crust. The tomato sauce was robust, vibrant in color and flavor with a hint of garlic sweetness on the tail end. Def one of my favorite notes of the evening. The pepperoni and pineapples were a chefs kiss as the pineapples were not too hot and the pepperoni left you asking for more toppings. So it's a biased 4 Star for me. If the pizza wasn't flimsy and have a few more toppings I'd score higher. Well we had several items in our group. 4 wonderful types of pizza Hawaiian Pepperoni Pepperoni b jalapeño Sausage We had fried zucchini and a blooming onion, Plus spinach lasagna and house salads with homemade ranch dressing and Italian dressings! We frequent pizza D's because it's a neighborhood local spot and we love to support small business. There are a few really good dishes here including the ravioli and their giant slice of pizza for lunch. That's always a great deal! I wouldn't recommend the desserts here just not their specialty. I've tried the shrimp, linguine pasta dish, the spaghetti and meatballs, their pizza, their gnocchi. They always give a basket of cheesy bread - so good! I will admit I was not sure how to feel about this place at first since it was an italian restaurant but upon stepping inside i saw a bunch of asian instant noodles. Seeing the thai tea on the menu didn't help either but i was pleasantly surprised. It seems like an asian/italian restaurant that doesn't take itself too seriously. I recommend getting the onion blossom, and beef lasagna. The portion size was pretty big so come hungry or with friends. The chicken carbonara was ok except chicken was a little dry. I decided to phone in a to-go order while waiting for my son, as he was finishing up for track practice. We headed over to pick up our large pepperoni pizza and garlic breadsticks. I was offered either pizza sauce or meat sauce for the garlic breadsticks. I picked regular marinara and ranch. I ended up receiving marinara and meat sauce. I didn't feel like driving back and they didn't charge me for it, so no big deal. When I arrived the owner offered me some iced tea while waiting, which was nice. The staff was all friendly and trying to do a great job with their customers. The owner I believe was there helping out his staff, encouraging them, reassuring and praising them. Fountain Valley Pizza D'Z is located on a strip shopping center right off of Slater and unless you are really looking for it, it could definitely be a hole in the wall - to evidenced by me having driven here and never batting an eye to it. Walking in, the vibe is really chill and we were taken care of right away. I let them know it was a to go order but they insisted on us taking a table to get seated while we order and wait for our food. How nice of them! While waiting, we were served jasmine tea which tasted really refreshing! Also, a promo at the time was Thai tea and when I asked, they were happy to oblige for our to go order! Their service at this point was already outstanding and the continued service and friendly attitude continued until we got our food. We ordered the D'Z Special with Pineapple added, the Z's pink sauce pasta with fettuccine and garlic cheese bread. A birthday surprise has us doing Pizza D'Z for takeout. We ordered the Family Special that included pepperoni pizza and spaghetti and garlic toast and a large portion of fresh house salad. We added beef lasagna and 2 extra Italian sausages. The takeout was ready, and the server was helpful and kind. A kind gesture had me take away an ice-cold Sprite. The Bad: The cream based dishes are gross. The main reason is because rather than use quality cheese or some other proper dairy, they used some gross cheap tasting cream cheese that destroys everything. It's in their cal zones and in their Fettuccini Alfredo. It overpowers everything in a bland taste that destroys any good ingredients. So if you like cream based stuff, find another place. This doesn't seem to effect their regular pizza however which is still pretty good. Also the staff there while nice, tend to be very slow on clean up. Over half the time I'm there, I have to clear away some crumbs or other dander from previous customers. Also the wait time can be rough. Up to 30 minutes sometimes even if your order was placed first. I've also ordered ahead of time and for whatever reason, the cook just wasn't working on my food for 20 minutes. They started when I showed up and informed them that I had an order. The Good: The Tomato based dishes don't suffer from quality and are actually very good. The staff overall is very nice and friendly. They almost seem like a family. Very likable people. The ambiance is nice and there is a school nearby that they seem to get most of their staff from. Good to help out the local community. My advice to the owner: If you're good with cutting corners, nothing I can say to you, but if you have some integrity for the prices you charge, get rid of the cheap cream cheese base and replace it with something that doesn't taste like seafoam. Look up a place in Mission Viejo called Sabatino's and try their cream based dishes. Your food should taste like that. Take the entire staff and see how Italian should taste. Also look at the prices they charge and the quality they present. My roommate tells me that Pizza D was an amazing place for many years before you purchased it. It's still good, but not there. I hope you are driven to work on that. read more

I cant wait to go to an all you can eat Tuesday. The cashiers are always super cool and nice they always offer you tea (which isnt my favorite). I was disappointed. I am leaving this review because I want them to do well, but I won't be back unless I see some changes. I stopped by because I was in the area and wanted a pizza by the slice, but it was a mistake coming here. This might be a good Italian restaurant, but I would rather go to Sbarros's for pizza. First, the advertising was misleading. They have a sign at the counter advertising "giant slice" for $8, but this is misleading because they also charge $1 extra per tipping. So, a pepperoni slice goes for $9, and a supreme slice would go for $16, and for this price, it's better to get a pan pizza from Domino's. Second, the service was slow. I was told that the wait would be 15 minutes, but I ended up waiting 40. I didn't want to yell at the employees because they were kids of college age, and I knew that they were truly doing their best. Unfortunately, I happened to stop by during a time when the owners were away, so other customers were dealing with erroneous charges on their receipts, which meant that the wait staff were preoccupied. Finally, the nail in the coffin: the pizza was only "just fine." It was not bad, buy if I'm paying so much and waiting so long, I expect it to be good. In short, this experience was not cheap, not fast, and not good, so I can't justify going back, even if I am in the area. (For a 40 minute wait, I could drive to Irvine for better and cheaper pizza by the slice.) I truly hope that they do well because the staff was super friendly and really doing their best. Having only been here once, maybe some would take this review with a grain of salt. I came here with intent. I came with purpose. I came... to try the thit nuong pizza. For those that don't know, it's basically grilled pork that's common staple associated with Vietnamese cuisine. Having tried many different types of pizzas, I can say that pizza is a universal food that pairs with virtually any cuisine. This dish has an a nice south East Asian flavoring that melds a traditional Vietnamese grilled pork flavor into a nice doughy and cheesy pizza. Even my father, who usually only likes the most traditional of pizzas liked this one. The initial store front my look like a traditional pizza restaurant, and it definitely does. But it hides a hidden gem that probably most people don't know about. For the life of me, I'm not sure why this is not advertised, but everyone should definitely give it a try!
