They still sell delicious thin crust pizzas and salads in a simple, intimate, candle lit (though slightly quiet) setting. It's also a BYO (with £1 corkage per head and there's a really big Wine Rack next door) seven days a week which is never a bad thing. You can sit out front, though be warned it's set on a pretty busy road.

It's a cosy little bring-your-own (BYO) Italian-style cafe and pizzeria where you can take your own beer or wine for just £1 per head corkage, to enjoy over supper. I'd been meaning to try this place for ages when I first popped in and tried a take away from the deli-like counter - which had Mediterreanean mezze-style foods to choose from. The take-away carton I chose, made up of cold mixed salads and mezze, was wonderful, so we went back there one evening to eat-in and try the pizza. With the lights dimmed and the candles lit, it was very sweet and homely - and the stonebaked Italian pizzas are wonderful (12" or 14"), with mozzarella sourced from Naples (the home of pizza!). I tried the 'C Minor' (Calzone vegetarian folded pizza) and not only was it lovely but it almost felt healthy to eat, too. The food is so good and reasonably priced, with a BYO policy, there's really no excuse not to come back here - and as a small, independent local business I'm keen to support it.

I didn't get around to writing my first review and I'm glad I waited because the food was so amazing it brought me back the next day. CHEF ANDI YOU ARE THE BEST. I can't explain how happy you made not only my stomach but everyone's at the table. My server Joan was absolute phenomenal she comes highly recommended and makes the best selections for your palate. Her energy is infectious and she is hilarious. It's a motherly warm embracing feeling with her as a server. I will be sad to leave this place. But I assure you it's worth the drive no matter how far you are. I drove 3 hours from London. And I would do it again. I can't wait to return. The second reason, seeing at least 3 employees strolling to a table for their lunch break, carrying their Sunday roasts with those "found" roasted potatoes on their plates. Let me remind you that a great business model for restaurants is to "exceed guest (or customer) expectations and make a reasonable profit. No roasted potatoes meant two of your customers expectations were not met. That said, one of the party did received a child Sunday roast. The roasted beef was tough as leather and dry. I ordered the Halloumi salad, which I thought was very good. I enjoyed the pumpkin seeds mixed through. The pizzas are typically very good, which was ordered by 3 of the party. And chicken Caesar salad, ordered by another of the party, was (I think) satisfactory. Service was decent. I'd suggest, if possible, for the party of seven, the food comes out at the same time. It doesn't take much to figure out that a couple of staff can help each other. If they're busy, perhaps a member of management can assist... this would have made it better. Instead, we all waited until everyone got their food. I'm not 100% convinced that we will return, at least on a Sunday. It seems, based of previous visits, Sunday's is hit or miss. The ambiance, in my opinion, is consistent. We Like that it is family friendly.

Arty in atmosphere, with some engaging art hanging at the moment. The bar's comprehensive, with plenty of organic and local offerings. They've got a relaxed approach to food, doing pizzas, Sunday roasts, and other usuals, some with a bit of a Brazillian twist. It's not quite as hip as it might hope to be, though certainly a much more stylish experience that you'll get anywhere else in Brislington. Pretty large, which is mostly a blessing in this case - you should be able to always get a seat. Boca Bar is an outpost of trendiness on the Bath Road.

Furthermore, if you fancy ordering half the shop but are too embarassed to do so in public, Mr Crispin's Fish and Chips has an online order/delivery service (see web address) whereby you can order as much grease as you'd like and simultaneously preserve your dignity. The Bocabar is well known for its pizza and beware the LONG menu. You need time and determination to read through the pizza menu! I chose very well - my pizza was delicious!!!! Children are welcome and service is friendly. It gets very busy at the weekends but during the week, their are still plenty of people, so despite the huge size of the space here, it manages to welcome you well. The pizzas are all 12inch and range in price from £8.50 for a Margherita up to £10.50 for the Piccante & BBQ Chicken pizzas. What really sets their pizzas apart from your average takeaway pizza is the crispy base and crust from being cooked in the bread oven and the quality of the ingredients used for the toppings - the Piccante we ordered had Napoli sausage, fennel salami and "fior de latte" (proper Italian cows milk mozzarella). Between 4 of us we ordered 2 Piccante pizzas, a Hawaian and a Vesuvio (pepperoni and chilli) all were delicious. The pizzas are takeaway only (no delivery currently) but the plus side of this is that I'll burn off a few calories picking the pizzas up and you can also buy some bread for the morning and pick up some cakes for desert. Very happy to see my local bakery breathing some much needed life back in to St. John's lane!

And on some levels I would be right. The prices for such food is spot on and each dish is freshly made and tasty with the right amount of herbs - without being overfilling or stodgy. On another level, I think the food is quite exceptional. Cooked in the way only real Italians can, with passion and flair and served up in the comfy modern surroundings of leather chairs and slick decor. It is a shame the place in on Bedminster parade (although there is a very nice city centre branch too), a bit of a run down area without much going for it. The customers were few & far between when I visited and I worry that they just don't attract the right clientele when they're situated next to Asda. Luckily, you can forget where you are once inside (and relaxing with a big bowl of tagliatelle and a glass of chianti!) They specialise in delicious chicken and fish dishes, as well as traditional Italian veal recipes (I won't touch the stuff myself, but that's just personal ethics). I ate breaded mozzarella for starters (unbelievably yummy) and pollo alla diavolo for mains (had to point at the menu for that one) - chicken breast served in a spicy onion, tomato, mushroom and chilli sauce. Too full up for pud and without leaving too much of a dent in the bank balance. Will certainly return - perhaps to the city centre branch.

The atmosphere of an evening tends to err towards the animated, and so the venue is great for parties and celebratory meals of any kind. The reception from the staff is always warm and welcoming and their Italian vitality is infectious. One of my favourite dishes to date is the Lasagne Vegetariana, a beautifully succulent dish, plentiful and oozing with fresh, juicy vegetables and a finishing touch of tasty melted cheddar. A generous portion of garlic bread and a finely dressed and presented salad were additions which bestowed the meal with a wow factor that far exceeded its modest price (circa £8.50). If you're more of a pizza person, I'd recommend the Ortolana, an exquisitely tasty dish, strewn with peppers, aubergine, roasted courgettes, olives and mozzarella cheese (mouth watering as I type). My only criticism of Bottelinos is its rather naff televised open fire. "Come again?", I hear you say. Now there's incentive to go and have a gander...
