Excellent meal that exceeded my expectations at a reasonable price. I used this place because of its location rather that its reputation but was agreeably surprised, and I would definitely eat there again.

Unfortunately we were too full to try the chocolate cake but it looked lovely at the next table over.

Our order was taken very quickly and I was impressed by the range of dishes on the menu; it is definitely a cut above the usual Italian restaurant fare. I had the Fregula di Frutti di Mare to start, which was not at all the seafood soup that I was expecting but more like a watery risotto. It was a bit too creamy for my taste and I wished they'd mentioned that on the menu, but there we are. For mains I thought I had ordered a penne with squid ink sauce, but when it came I was dismayed to find that I'd actually ordered something that was covered in cheese and cream sauce, which being lactose intolerant I just couldn't eat. However, after my profuse apologies for mis-reading the menu, they very quickly replaced it with the squid ink number (it was the spaghetti, not the penne!) so full marks to them for doing that. I liked the ambience of the place too, from the clichéd wax-encrusted wine bottle candle holders to the quirky decorative touches and pictures. I'll keep this place bookmarked for my next visit to Bristol.

It's also a BYO (with £1 corkage per head and there's a really big Wine Rack next door) seven days a week which is never a bad thing. It's a cosy little bring-your-own (BYO) Italian-style cafe and pizzeria where you can take your own beer or wine for just £1 per head corkage, to enjoy over supper. I'd been meaning to try this place for ages when I first popped in and tried a take away from the deli-like counter - which had Mediterreanean mezze-style foods to choose from. The take-away carton I chose, made up of cold mixed salads and mezze, was wonderful, so we went back there one evening to eat-in and try the pizza. With the lights dimmed and the candles lit, it was very sweet and homely - and the stonebaked Italian pizzas are wonderful (12" or 14"), with mozzarella sourced from Naples (the home of pizza!). I tried the 'C Minor' (Calzone vegetarian folded pizza) and not only was it lovely but it almost felt healthy to eat, too. The food is so good and reasonably priced, with a BYO policy, there's really no excuse not to come back here - and as a small, independent local business I'm keen to support it.
