Something about Pizza By Goli kept me away from the restaurant ever since moving to Sutton Coldfield. Perhaps it was the seemingly dated look from the outside, or the other reviews across the internet complaining about the price points. As I discovered when dining there recently, my hesitation has been my loss. Pizza by Goli has been around for over two decades, with an additional location in Lichfield owing to the popularity of their cuisine. It's classic home-style Italian food done with a bit of panache. Like the best Roman and Florentine trattorias, Goli runs at a very frenetic pace. Staff are constantly moving around, and the open kitchen is a hive of activity. Even with pizza in their name, I am a die-hard fan of their various pastas. On my now multiple visits, I have found that the spinach tortellini with tomato creme sauce is the way to go. I have no idea how they do it, but the sauce is like velvet over the pasta parcels. Their skills extend even to the appetisers, including an avocado and cheese dish that is oven baked. Sounds odd, but the smokiness of the sauce makes the avocados really pop. The garlic pizza bread is also a no-brainer. To round out the meal at Goli you'll of course need at least a bottle of wine and dessert. Luckily the house bottles are uber affordable, with a very drinkable white or red for under 15 quid. The desserts are house made, including a very reasonable tiramisu. If you are an Italian food foodie, it's best that you run over to Pizza by Goli before you regret having not tried it earlier like me! read more

This restaurant has to be one of the busiest restaurants in Sutton. Definitely book for this one as it seems popular for family meals, yummy mummies and dates - basically all of Sutton Coldfield. Tables are very close together for a true intimate Italian restaurant feel, along with an open plan kitchen for you to watch your food being cooked. It can get pretty hot so there is an option to be seated outside. Waiters are friendly and food is served quickly and arrives hot. Be warned the waiters go in with the hard sell, at one point a waiter brought out a secret and more expensive wine menu to my boyfriend to 'impress the lady'... A Cocktail menu would have been more impressive. A specials menu with no pricing, dinner here could get very expensive here if you let the waiters talk you into it. We ordered the pizzas, which were around £10 each and decent portions.They were nice but not the best pizzas I've had, a nice change from the Ask or pizza express both located nearby. Despite the overzealous waiters, it's a good Italian to go to in the area on a Friday or Saturday night. Service was quick and we were definitely at no point ignored ;-) read more

This is a wonderful, authentic Italian restaurant! Is busy and bustling with an open kitchen and outdoor seating. The stone baked pizzas are to die for! I had salmon pasta and it was packed full of salmon! Totally worth the price tag ...my only regret is that I didn't have room for dessert! If you want authentic Italian food then this is the place to go in Sutton Coldfield! It's a good idea to book a table as its a popular place. read more

This place is a firm favourite with the M Family - and a fave of plenty of others in the area if the constant flow of bums-on-every-seat is anything to go by! Defo call ahead to check for a table as there isn't much space by the door to wait around for one. You walk in and the ambience wraps itself around you like a big warm hug. Maybe it's the yummy garlicky smells wafting over from the open kitchen at the back. Maybe it's the friendliness of the serving staff that seem like they're one big happy family that you're invited to be part of for the evening. Actually maybe it's the fact that it's literally always so warm in there that the front windows steam up - dress up or dress down but I'd advise you to wear layers so you can take some clothes off inside! The food is satisfying, homely and oh-so-tasty with an impressive variety of pizzas, pastas and other mains (steak/meat/fish etc). Pizzas are pretty huge and all from fresh home-made dough - throw in a garlic bread starter to share to see how nice and light this dough is. I usually go for a pasta dish and try to have a different one each time, though my sister takes the opposite why-mess-with-a-good-thing approach and gets the tagliatelle panza without thinking every single time. Nice selection of wines, though beer fans like Dad might be disappointed that they only have bottled rather than on tap. If you do things right you won't have any room for dessert, though just in case you do it's the choc fudge cake you want (warm, with ice cream, obviously). The place is so popular that they do cram the tables together quite closely - though it adds to the welcoming family feel. The dried pasta displays set into the table-tops are a nice touch too. Staff are pretty much guaranteed to put a smile on your face and attentive to boot. Look out for the 'grandpa' of the bunch who has an awesomely vibrato singing voice - as demonstrated last visit by him bringing out a dessert with candles and starting up a chorus of happy birthday no less than THREE separate times. Naturally the whole place joins in :) Well done if you're lucky enough to find a parking space on the kerb outside (which can be fun/tricky to get up on), otherwise we usually find somewhere down the next side street. We came here for a mid-week birthday meal. Reserving a table ahead seems essential, every closely packed table was occupied all the way through our evening with a staggeringly short turnover time. The staff here work hard. I arrived ahead of everyone else in our party and ended up sitting alone at a huge table for some time. I felt completely at ease though. Through the whole evening everyone who served us was a pro. They handled a mix up with the size of our table in a few min, when my sister accidentally ordered the wrong starter (with meat when she is a vegetarian) it was no problem and they were very gracious about my granddads particular style of humour, think 'Dad Jokes'. There were a few things I really liked. The tables contain a wonderful array of dried pasta, a small touch but much more interesting than a table cloth. The bathrooms (located down a set of stairs) are pretty plush - I always believe you can tell a lot about a place by its toilet! And the kitchen is open to the dining area. I think it is fantastic to be able to watch your food being prepared. So, onto the food then... I had a baked avocado for starter. A poor choice and one that I regretted. Essentially an avocado in a tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese on top. Not really a combination that worked for me. If you're looking for something to nibble on the garlic bread and olives are delicious and a much better option. I also took a risk with my main and ordered pizza but with an egg, again, not a combination I will be revisiting. On other fronts my pizza wasn't bad. Not spectacular but the ingredients were fresh and I enjoyed it enough to take the slices I couldn't finish home with me for later. All in all, worth a visit for the atmosphere but have a steak. read more

have been a regular customer to this pizza restaraunt for several years now, and I am in no doubt that they do the best pizzas around. It is a very relaxed atmosphere and always busy, so you may have to wait a short while for an available table, depending on what time you arrive (there is no pre-booking as far as I am aware). The service is very good and always quick, even when the place is busy. The food itself is fantastic, the pizzas are thin and crispy but large enough to fill your appetite. If you are really hungry, you must try the calzone, which is packed with delicious ingredients and wrapped up in the pizza base. The garlic pizza breads are also delicious, they are smaller thin crust pizza bases dripping with garlic butter & herbs. There is a nice selection of wines and italian beers, and the overall prices are very reasonable. If you fancy a change from the doughy pizzas of Dominos & Pizza Hut, you must try out Goli's! read more

A completely unpretentious Italian restaurant serving up simple, delicious food. The surrondings are basic, but all the emphasis here is placed on good food and good service (music to many a dinners ear). This place has a great reputation amongst the locals. I've never heard anyone say they had a bad meal here. The prices are reasonable, so pleanty left over for that extra bottle of Pinot Grigio after the meal. read more

A small resturant in the centre of Sutton Coldfield, staff are helpful and friendly. Food is always good and reasonably priced, the menu consists of pizza and pasta dishes, all tastey and authentic Italian food. Can be very busy in the summer and at christmas so expect to have to wait for a table. There is some parking outside otherwise its probably better to park in the centre of Sutton Coldifeld and walk up (about 3 minute walk from town's square). read more

Sutton certainly needs to ramp up the restaurant quality but this place is one of the best around. Too many chains in Sutton so this mini independent is a breath of fresh air. We stumbled on this wonderful place late one evening in Lichfield. It was after 9 and most other places were already closed. The service was excellent and the food and wine were wonderful. Great intimate atmosphere. We ate there twice during our vacation. read more

We have not been to the one in Sutton Coldfield but have been dining at the Solihull restaurant on Hobbs Moat Road for years. It is one of our favourite restaurants. Whether you chose pizza, pasta or other italian dishes you will not be disappointed. The food is delicious and the service is fantastic (the staff are very friendly and attentive) The first time we went, Goli the owner gave my daughter a plate of pizza dough to make her own design/pattern and they cooked it for her to take home. We have always been made to feel special. The decor is lovely, just love the glass tables with the pasta arrangement behind the glass. Just one last thing the name of the restaurant has now changed to Pavarotti but the menu and staff are still the same. If you love italian food, I definitely recommend you try this place. read more

If the fat-crust, NYC-style pizza consumed by a ninja turtle has a relative from the old country, it's the type of crisp, tasty pizza served at popular Pizza by Goli. Here there once stood a joke shop, but today, the restaurant is no laughing matter. In addition to great pizza is a range of pasta dishes which, you have to say, is expected. But there is something to it all, if the sheer amount of customers is anything to go by. There are even a few tables outdoors. Rather than dining, they seem to cater mostly for pre-meal drinks (or smokers), although its spot on a busy main road has never been my choice to pass the time before a table is ready. And yet somehow, it seems to work, with seemingly as many bodies outside as in. There is, despite the location, a certain intimacy to it defying common sense. After a few sparkling wines, you could even find it attractive. This end of Sutton has seen several restaurants spring up lately, creating real choice, with competitors always ready to turn the heads of diners away from their tried-and-trusted favourite. To that end, diversification is needed, with Pizza by Goli introducing carry-out pasta. What the concept lacks on paper, it makes up for in practice. A great alternative to the curries, chow meins and chips located nearby if you just want to relax at home. read more
