I've always loved Italian food - pasta and pizza, what more can you ask for! Well, at La Galleria, you get more than that; you get an extensive menu covering everything from the above, to steak, chicken, risotto, fish and so much more. On entering the restaurant you may be shock just from the sheer size of it. Situated in central Birmingham, it's got a perfect location and can host (from a quick glance round though I'm no good at counting) about 100 people at a time. It has a bar located just off the centre and there are tables all down the windows, so you can peer out and survey the crowds. It was warm, which made such a change to the cold outside, and the smell was beautiful - freshly cooked pizza!
After being taken to our table situated by a window, we (Vicky and I) pursued the menu. I settled on a chicken dish which came with a fabulous sauce containing white wine (no problem there), onions, cheese and cream. It was reasonably priced (£13.45) and tasted delicious. I just wish there was more of the sauce. The dish came with a side of vegetables including potatoes, beans, carrots and broccoli. It was just the right amount. Vicky's calzone was huge and after seeing it cooked I was slightly upset I didn't get one (though I had had one the day before).
The staff were wonderfully attentive, pouring our wine or asking if the meal was ok. They were very cheery and smiley which was really nice on a cold winter's day. The wine started from £17.95 and went upwards to around £80. I settled on the cheapest bottle and that was just perfect for me. The prices are very similar to most of the other restaurants in the area so I didn't feel that it was over-priced at all.
I didn't opt for desert as I was so full from my main, however, I can say that the menu included the full array of classic Italian dishes including tiramisu. I loved this place and I'll be back, even if for a saucepan of the sauce! read more
