I can always count on this place to fill me up. The staff is quick and efficient. If you're lucky you'll get someone on the till who is super friendly and you're able to share a few quick laughs with them. The food itself is consistent and dependable. They are generous in portions and happy to make what you want to-order. Also, this is one of the few chip shops where I am comfortable ordering several different things off the menu and knowing that I'll have a good meal. Even with some big chain's in the area and with other chip shops that are cheaper, this still is on the top on my list when I want a good takeaway. This place is a birmingham institution, a revolutionary. The original maverick in the once stale world of birmingham fast food. I used to visit this Big John's on the way home from College many moons ago, and although the service is a little shaky, I can't score it less than 5 stars because it is AWESOME! A mixed kebab, with donner meat, delicious chicken tikka, salad, chilli sauce all served in a GIANT NAAN... costs a meagre £3.50! After taking my friends there recently and introducing an out-of-towner to experience it, one of them looked at my kebab and said, "how on earth are you meant to eat that? It's massive!" I agreed, and then showed him. It seems the way you are meant to eat it, is with a smile on your face! read more

After having my heart broken by my favourite pizza delivery place closing, I went back to the old faithful Big John's. I don't really like going into the store but ordering online is the best! Their pizza is so sexy, yummy and down right amazing and for so cheap too! Only downside is that you can pick a timeslot of when it is delivered but....they never stick to it. read more

My Big John's is this one! This is actually Big John's Original. The First One! It's had a refurb pretty recently but just remember this. Huge pizza handmade to order and you can choose from whichever toppings you like then have the cheese put ON TOP of the ingredients. I used to use this place on a regular basis, but have stopped going there now for two simple reasons: 1- quality of the food has gone downhill. - Was told (quite rudely, I might add) while choosing the toppings for my pizza, that I could not have any more than 4 toppings. That was never said to me in the past. - The Shami Kebabs are now wafer thin. So much so that they are rock hard when heated, and are almost impossible to eat. 2- some of the staff are downright arrogant and rude. Conclusion - Not an enjoyable experience, and I for one would not set foot in this place again. read more

Very good fast food outlet that gets better each year, tasty wide selection of foods and soft drinks, much more benefits getting your pizza from here than Dominos up the road, far cheaper and just as filling. read more

When this place 1st opened, this place was very snazzy, nice lights, clean tables clean floors, you could see the effort put into this place. When you go here now you can see how things have changed, smashed windows, lights which have been reduced (cost saving maybe) shabby tables, greesy counters and the list is endless, the food has also gone down hill, 5 years ago id give this place 5 but now its just only a 2 as its a big name in fast food in bham, but so does not live up to its rep. read more

Excellent fish & chips, we go to a warehouse in Birmingham and get fish & chips from here before returning to Milton Keynes. Much cheaper and better quality than in Milton Keynes. Staff very helpful too. Well done and keep serving excellent food! read more

Whereas a rubbish gag among Robin Hood's mates had their big John dubbed Little John - sheer hilarity in that forest - the name of this takeaway doesn't mess about. Big by name and nature. That said, 'big' may just not cut it. 'Massive' is more apt, at least if the pizza is anything to go by. When the largest circumference means that simple triangular slices can no longer be fashioned without support from a few centralised rectangles, you know you may be a smidge out of your depth. It's not unusual to draw a few stares from others in the queue who had only gone in for fish and chips - that comically large box, a postage stamp prop from Honey I Shrunk The Kids, gets people rubbing their eyes like a kid on the stairs on Christmas Eve. How good is it, then? Put it this way, I know of one group who stopped their taxi to pick up some grub while supposedly taking an injured friend to hospital. I know of another who, worse for wear on the way home, ran up the black cab meter to twice the total of their not inconsiderable haul of food while choosing from the menu.
