This place has good food and is cheap - really nice pizzas, burgers, fish, chips, sausages and friendly staff

When they first started they were a bit ropey on food, burger buns often a little stale, but since they changed owners & since the pandemic the food's really improved - and they have a few decent cask ales on too, usually a couple of guest beers to choose from. So if you like good honest pub grub & don't mind a slightly run down working class kind of pub with loads of football on screens everywhere, it's a good value place to take the family. Not a posh place putting on airs or anything but a good pub with great burgers and steaks that they'll actually cook how you ask them to.

As there were only tables for 4 people available on a early Sunday evening the staff moved two square tables together for our party of five. We had a sharing platter which was quite reasonable however we found ourselves waiting for 20 more minutes for any sign of a main course. During which the young server tried to bring other peoples food to our table twice. And a 2nd server tried to bring us our starter AGAIN after the first one had been eaten and the plates cleared. (lose one star.) Whilst we waited for our food we heard the first server tell someone behind us that the delay was due to a lack of steak knives but no one advised us that there was an issue. (lose another star.) When the main course appeared they insisted that my brothers food had been ordered without chips and only a salad. But since he doesn't eat salad we were worried we had someone else's. They brought us the missing portion of chips in an extra bowl without any fuss. (lose yet another star.) My main course was a beef burger with pulled pork and "some" chips. It took a further 10 minutes for our dessert to appear. To be fair my profiteroles were not terrible. but two stars it is.. MEH. I've had better. I'll go back in a few months to see if the staff have been shown which table is where.

An old Victorian pub which has been updated through the years, The Boot is probably one of the better bets out of the four other nearby pubs (The Anvil, The Reddicap and The White Horse) if you're after a quiet night out. There's a pull-down screen which shows the football and a small garden out the back. It's the sort of pub where, if you've lived in Sutton for a while, you're bound to bump into someone you at least vaguely know. If you don't have the benefit of being a local, then it still has an easy-going vibe about it and you're not going to get stared at for being a stranger. The pub backs on to Rectory Park so on a nice day you can walk your beer off or rehydrate after a stroll.

The Boot is a decent enough boozer but is let down by its location. It's just that bit too far out…read moreof central Sutton to make it onto most people's crawl list. Also, as The Boot is right next to Good Hope Hospital, parking at this pub can leave you feeling sick. However, for those lucky few who live on the Number 71 bus route it is possible to get off at the stop directly outside, making this the first port of crawl. The upsides? The Boot Inn has a very decent beer garden situated at the front of the establishment - making it ideal to catch the sun and watch the world go by. Inside, The Boot is pretty roomy with plenty of tables and chairs. You'll never be stuck for a seat here even when it gets pretty busy, usually of a weekend. There is also a digital juke box, which can't be a bad thing, can it?
