Wow, what a gem of a national park with free admission!…read more We began in the visitors center and gift shop, which had a lot of information about the site through displays and videos, offering a variety of perspectives on the Revolutionary war. Then we went into the wooden fort which has many rooms that you can go into. All the staff members we interacted with were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Very nice historical place, centered near downtown Rome. Plenty of parking nearby (the garage was…read moreclosed). The visitors center, however, was closed during the day of my visit. But luckily, they had passport stamp stations at the entrance of the fort. (Hey, I can't help it, I'm a passport stamp geek!) To get to the reconstructed fort, you gotta walk a short trail with historical markers, which tell the story about the fort. The original fort was built by the British, years before the American Revolution. After it sat for years abandoned and decayed, General George Washington ordered the fort rebuilt in time for the revolution. The fort, of course, was eventually torn down. But decades later thank to FDR and Robert Kennedy, the site was dedicated as a historical monument and the fort was re-constructed. It is not 100% accurate, but historians did the best they could to make it look how it used to be. It is mostly outdoors, but you can go in some of the rooms and check out real historical artifacts. They even have people dressed up from that time period that can answer your questions. Worth the visit!

Love walking along the trails with my four legged baby and truly feel blessed that I am able to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the gardens. It truly gives the area a unique feel combining art and nature. The garden runs about a 3 mile stretch and features over 20 large scaled modern sculptures and interactive displays dispersed throughout the walking trails. Additionally, there is a frisbee golf park which makes this a fun area for families to get out and enjoy. There is also a Vietnam Veterans Memorial section as well. Highly recommend a visit to the gardens if you find yourself in the Rome area.

(If you scroll through their prior reviews you can see that they have taken it upon themselves to leave a bad review for any and every sculpture park, river walk, or development that hosts a Lundberg sculpture. Why? Unclear.) Don't let that bad review fool you! This sculpture garden/nature trail is a true gem. Located in Rome, NY on the former Griffiss AFB, this park/trail is well worth your time. There are 28 wonderful sculptures, most of which are approachable from the trail. Signage tells you about the provenance, artist, and materials. There are five linear miles of paved trail, perfect for bikes, jogging, strollers, wheelchairs, skateboards, etc. It is also well set back from the road so don't be deterred if you have kids, there is plenty of open space for them to run around! This is an amazing all season experience, perfect for walking, snowshoeing, xc skiing, and anything in between. There are portapotties available if needed. Trees make a lovely allee along the trail. Stay tuned for a disc golf course that will be installed this summer... in short, don't sleep on this trail!
