Back in the spring I did a painting class here where they gave us a piece of plywood board and a stencil that said spring has sprung and we got to paint it and decorate it with anything- it was great! Then just recently Pinnovate celebrated their first birthday party. At their birthday their was complimentary goodies from cobs bakery, complimentary ice cream or gelato from Fiasco gelato, pizza from coco brooks and coffee from rosso coffee roasters. They also were making balloon animals. We could visit and tour the store and paint complimentary cards with water colors. It was great!

I came in looking to rent a helium tank. All they had were the big tanks for $80/day. A big tank is totally not what I needed, way to big in fact. The guy helping me suggested one of the disposable helium tanks... but those are crap. The balloons last for like 2 hrs before they start floating down to the ground. 3 if you're lucky. Anyway, this is where the staff member launched into an explanation about what makes your balloons last a really long time. He took me over to their helium tank and proceeded to show me the extra latex coating they use to coat every balloon (which apparently helps the balloon stay afloat for like 3-5 days). I was thankful for the extra info, and for the fact that he didn't try and talk me into renting the tank anyway. He did apologize for not having what I needed and suggested maybe trying Praxair for my own tank if I were going to use it often. Anyway, customer service like that can be hard to find. You'll see me checking out Canuck again sometime for other party things!

When I got there, I was a little bit confused by the architecture of the building and wasn't sure where I was supposed to go in. Finally, I made my way inside to what I believe to be the main floor. There wasn't a ton of space in here, but more than enough room to highlight some great vendors. I browsed some jams, rad terrariums, artwork, etc. I made my way upstairs, but again, the size of the building didn't allow for much capacity and I ended up feeling too close to strangers and left. Even though I once lived in Bridgeland, this is the first time I have visited this centre. I call it a community hall because calling it the Varsity community building just doesn't have the same feel to it. If you're from a small town, the hall itself isn't so much what you'd expect. See, where I grew up, the community hall was a one room deal with a stage at the end. This one's got a multitude of rooms in different shapes and sizes that are used for a variety of different things (dance classes, Girl Guides and even a playschool). The hall is great (and cheap) for small group kind of rentals. Unlike your small town hall (big hall for the small town rather than the other way around), I don't think you'll want to be catering any big weddings here. But with a playground right outside, some field space, and easy accessibility just off Shaganappi Trail, you've got a solid venue for your event(s).

Go there and they would not honor the price that was listed on the website even though the costume number matched. To make it worse, the Manager lied and said only the extra small costume was on sale which it clearly wasn't. The price was not the same on the website as in the store period. She didn't validate anything I said even when I showed her clearly on my phone. I've spent a lot of money in that store over the years and should have been treated like a valued customer. It was false advertising. Manager should take a customer service course.
