I made dozens of those little beaded lizards, bubble bees, etc. (which I was happy to see today that they still sell those in packages). I gave one to everyone, and still have a drawer full of them somewhere (I can't dump them, the memories are too cherished). Oh or when we'd braid strings into bracelets. Or just take a wide assortment of beats, spell out our names, and make jewelery with that. Bead & Plenty More was the place I went to get my supplies. Seriously, this place was like heaven and still is today. I feel like a kid in this store. The assortment of beads and general craft work in this store is amazing. Whatever you need (wire, pliers, potential pendants, craft books, etc), it's all there. Just walking into this store and seeing all the shapes, colours, and materials (metal or plastic beads) got the creative juices flowing. Oh how I miss those days where giving your friends a custom made bracelet or necklace was a big deal, and that was their birthday present. I think I need to return to those days, even if it looks cheap.

I took a long walk around Calgary yesterday. It was a beautiful warm and sunny day and I wasn't…read moreabout to miss it. Interesting people were out, cute dogs were being walked by their owners, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood. Part of my stroll was down the "hip" Uptown area of 17th Avenue. What drew me into Steeling Home from my walk was an on sale desk fan that was displayed outside on a cute antique table. The price was right, but I knew darn well that it would be hard to get it in the suitcase for my eventual trip back to the San Francisco Bay Area. I might still change my mind on that.... Anyway, I decided to stroll around inside and really enjoyed exploring the many pockets of interesting stuff this relatively small store holds. It has books, antiques, jewelery, and much more in-between. The people watching was fun too, with a fresh touch of Portlandia thrown in. I'm glad I stopped in and reminded myself that marching around a new City is fun, and stopping to explore some of its quirks is even better.

It gives your taste buds a whole new atmosphere, but there are other things there too. they have different kinds of food and stuff. Don't think of it as a grocery store because it's not like that, they carry potato chips, they carry chocolate bars, pudding, apple sauce, bbq sauce etc. They carry tea, coffee. It's just too much to remember everything I bought my dogs that I babysit new toys these ones they cannot destroy. They're more like a rubber type, but they love playing with it. They try to destroy the squeak, they haven't succeeded. they carry rugs, all sizes, they carry shower, curtains, and shower hooks. Think of this store as consumer distribution if anybody who is a baby boomer would know what that is, they carry men's clothing, they carry women's clothing, they carry children's and babies clothing, not a lot, but you'll see when you come in. They carry blankets, purses, men's boots, and shoes. Women's shoes and boits, sheets, and tools. If I had time, I would tell you pretty much what more do they have but I would be here all day. You would have to go and see this place for yourself.

I guess if there's one thing a review challenge is good for, it's also updating old reviews! Whenever I'm in need of party supplies, these are the folks I call first. Actually, I check the website first because they've got an awesome inventory list and online reservation system. We've rented everything from tables, to helium tanks to linens from them and each and every time, my stuff's ready to go. And if you need delivery, that's pretty painless too! And everyone there is always just so pleasant to deal with. It's no wonder I keep coming back.

(!) After we approached them about clarifying this confusion, Balloons Canada did work with us to get the price to within our budget which was admirable. I very much like Balloons Canada, their enthusiasm and knowledge are a definite plus and they work hard to make sure and execute flawlessly. If you use them, do your due-diligence and ask to go through and have them clarify the quote. They will bill for test set-up, extra product and samples which is expected, but look over the total price as it can seem like they are billing by the hour and, like I did, it's easy to miss-read. We had over 100 guests and we were going to use the balloon arch and backdrop for photos with our family and friends. I called them to find out where they were and the owner said they thought it was tomorrow as they "THOUGHT takedown was Monday". Firstly, we never discussed takedown being Monday, so this was a pure assumption on their part. Secondly, when you're hired for a once in a lifetime event like this and get the date wrong, this is UNPROFESSIONAL. You really just need to get one thing right, which is to show up and make a balloon arch - how hard is that? I'm deeply upset about this and nothing is going to make it right because my daughter only has this birthday once. It was her 100 days party - a party to introduce her to both sides of the family and close friends for the first time - not a typical birthday party so we can't have the same event again.
