Penguins arena prior to playoff game!
Amber S.

I will always give a 5 star rating for the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a lifelong fan, not only are they an exciting team to watch on the ice, but they do a lot for charity to help make Pittsburgh a better place and to help out those in need in our community. I wish there were more professional sports organizations out there like the penguins. Plus they do a lot of nice events for children as well during their games. I am sad this year to see they lost in the playoffs in the first round, but they have won two cups in recent years and I am excited to see what they will do in future seasons.

Look at the kids! How sweet!

Favorite sports team of all time! Growing up I liked sports...loved boys playing sports and after trying my hand at cheerleading decided I didn't fit in with the conformation of cheering in a group. I was the bane of the squad because I actually watched the game and jumped up out of turn to go crazy and scream during riveting finals tournaments. Yup I "ruined the cheer!!" I was too hyper to be a cheerleader and ended up becoming a stats girl instead. A much better role, for when the game was nail bitingly close I could yell and jump to my hearts content. This being said I love watching sports and Hockey was the logical choice, that would make it the ultimate sports viewing experience, in my eyes. I mean hockey guys kick ass, the skills it takes ice skating with that tiny puck, the fighting COME ON! In college and highschool I went to many games and when I moved to Pittsburgh going to the Pens games became one of the best times I would look forward to. When I first moved we weren't doing so hot so the games were affordable, and easily attended. So my love of the Pens did not grow from fair weathered admiration. We have the best team in the league and soon after, we won the cup!! Love, love, love! It's such a "livable" city that it's possible to run into these athletes all over town! I won't give away where I've seen practically the whole team on many nights surrounded by puck bunnies sooo...get out there! It's fun to see that SOME of them are respectable young men and behave, unlike many the football player. Sorry Stillers the Pens are number #1!! Lets go Pens!

Dear Penguins, I went to see you the day after Thanksgiving. Apparently lighting candles at St. Stanislaus Kostka on Smallman Street works just as well as St. Paul's Cathedral. I love the new arena. I loved how happy and bright and shiny everything is. I loved seeing you play and cheering. I loved seeing you win. The Turkey Shuffle was pretty funny on that big shiny new jumbotron screen thing. However... and I still love you very much, honest I do but its tough love time.... Why are we still playing the same music we played at games when I went in high school in 1990? Can we update from Guns N Roses please? I mean Dallas plays hipper music, so does Boston, we are playing the same tired old soundtrack and it should have been laid to rest along with Mellon Arena. Seriously. Update that music. If the year the music came out starts with 19- its time to let it go. Do it. We are way too great of a hockey family to sound that lame. Love, Celeste your biggest dislocated fan.

That was fun seeing the Pens on their home ice. Check another NHL arena off the list.

I need to watch their games in bars more often. I swear they would have lost if I stayed home last night. :D

The…read moreSteelers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) Northdivision. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL, and the oldest franchise in the AFC. That said I grew up watching the Steelers play. I even had a commemorative drinking glass that had the list of dates they won the Super Bowl. Super Bowl championships(6):1974 (IX) 1975 (X) 1978 (XIII) 1979 (XIV) 2005 (XL) 2008(XLIII) Since it was my father that gave me the Steelers drinking glass I've never forgotten that I was a fan during their days of glory in the 1970's. They went on to win the Super Bowl two more times after my father died. I was also a big fan of the legendary Terry Bradshaw. We were born the same year. He was with the Steelers 14 years. I guess I'll always be a Steelers fan. But they will remain number two after my Dad's favorite team the Miami Dolphins!

I'm not a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but how can I not give the Steelers a five-star rating on Yelp?…read moreThe Steelers are tied with the AFC-rival New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl championships in NFL history. Both franchises have six Super Bowl titles. That's remarkable. Something else that's remarkable about the Steelers is the team has only had three head coaches since 1969: Chuck Noll (1969-1991, 23 seasons), Bill Cowher (1992-2006, 15 seasons), and Mike Tomlin (2007-present, 15 seasons through the 2021 season). Noll was responsible for Pittsburgh's first four Super Bowl championships in 1975, 1976, 1979, and 1980 (four championships in six years). Cowher was responsible for Super Bowl win #5 in 2006 and Tomlin was responsible for Super Bowl win #6 three years later in 2009. While Noll coached the Steelers during the early part of my lifetime, my memories of the Steelers are from the Cowher and Tomlin eras. Both Cowher and Tomlin have coached the Steelers for exactly 15 seasons now, so I think it's interesting to compare their careers. In 15 seasons, Cowher led the Steelers to 10 playoff appearances including two Super Bowl appearances: XXX in 1996 and XL in 2006. He spent his entire NFL head coaching career in Pittsburgh, compiling a record of 149-90-1 (.623) in the regular season and 12-9 (.571) in the postseason. In 15 seasons, Mike Tomlin also led the Steelers to 10 playoff appearances including two Super Bowl appearances: XLIII in 2009 and XLV in 2011. Like Cowher, Tomlin has also spent his entire NFL head coaching career in Pittsburgh, compiling a record of 154-85-2 (.643) in the regular season and 8-9 (.471) in the postseason. From this perspective, Cowher and Tomlin have had very similar levels of success over the same amount of time. Three players stick out in my mind when I think of the Steelers: Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, and Ben Roethlisberger. Bettis played most of his pro career for Pittsburgh, 10 seasons (1996-2005). He ended his Hall-of-Fame career on a high note, winning Super Bowl XL. "The Bus" played college football at Notre Dame. In 2014, I got to meet him at a Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame men's basketball game in Atlanta. He was just as nice in person as he was on TV. Hines Ward played his entire 14-year NFL career with the Steelers (1998-2011). He won two Super Bowls and was named MVP of Super Bowl XL. Ward grew up in the Atlanta area and played college football at my alma mater's rival, Georgia. Ward was drafted by Pittsburgh in 1998. Of course, all football fans know who Ben Roethlisberger is. After a successful junior year at Miami of Ohio (13-1 final record, No. 15 final AP ranking in 2003), the Steelers drafted Roethlisberger in 2004. "Big Ben" played 18 seasons for Pittsburgh. Those 18 seasons included 12 playoff appearances and three Super Bowl appearances (with the two Super Bowl titles, of course). Earlier this year (2022), I watched live on Monday Night Football as Roethlisberger walked around Heinz Field to say farewell to Steeler Nation: https://youtu.be/m63RkMdS3dk. Finally, while I never got to watch him play (except through clips), I've always enjoyed Terry Bradshaw as a TV analyst. He's got a big personality. Funny and entertaining. I've enjoyed Cowher's TV work as well.

Being inside the stadium where so many big moments happen was already special, but getting to watch the draft from there made it next level. This was my first time inside, and while I still need to come back for a Pittsburgh Steelers game someday, this was an incredible introduction. We were able to sit directly on the field, which felt surreal. Kicking back in the end zone with a local beer in hand while the picks rolled in was one of the coolest sports experiences I've ever had. They also had a Topps trading card tent on the field, and my brother-in-law and I couldn't pass up the chance to rip packs right there on the turf. The stadium itself is beautiful, the atmosphere was electric, and the whole place was packed with energy once the picks started coming in. Decked out in black and yellow, I felt like an honorary yinzer for the day. Truly a bucket-list moment and a memory I'll never forget. If you ever get the chance to experience an event here, take it. Absolute blast.
