Love the location of this restaurant! It's right on the Tyne river, so there really isn't a bad seat in the entire place with the beautiful glass windows all over the place. It's a great spot for a spot out in town whether it's just for a meal out or a lively night out on the weekend. The only reason I had to give four stars was because when we went, we tried ordering multiple things on the menu which we were told they did not have that day, which was unfortunate, but the food was pretty good and I would definitely go back! read more

I had a very bizarre experience there a few months ago, probably connected to some form of mental illness by staff, who have gender dysphoria or something like this and project this onto customers. I was on a walk with my girlfriend when we passed this place and decided, we come back here later after our walk to have a drink. But first I needed to go to the toilet. So I went inside alone while my girlfriend waited outside. I went to the bar and asked to go to the toilet (I didn't know where it was), but also tried to explain, that we come back later to have a drink, because I didn't want them to think that I only use this place for going to the toilet and some venues also reserve toilets only for customers. While I tried to say, that we come back later, the blond "girl" or "waitress" at the bar interrupted me and told me, that next to the gentleman's toilet is the disabled toilet and the lady's toilet. WTF? Why tell me this? I didn't ask for this and I was born a man and I'm still a man, last time I checked. I also don't look like a girl, otherwise my girlfriend would surely not be with me, would she? I have slept probably with a dozen girls in my life and none of them had a negative comment about my anatomy, instead I have gotten quite a few compliments. And I have rejected at least as many other women in my life. I don't want to brag, but these weird people kind of force me to do it to make my point. So I wonder, is this blond "waitress" transgender or LGBTQ or something and projects this onto customers? Or what is going on here? So I told her, as you can see I'm a gentleman and then she told me where the toilet is. But that's not all. After I went for the walk with my girlfriend we came back as planned for the drink. My girlfriend sits down and I go again to the bar to order beer. Before I can say anything, another "waitress", a black "girl" greets me with the words: "Do you want to go to the toilet?" Again, WTF? I guess the other "girl" told her some weird stuff about me, that I wanted to go to the lady's toilet or some other perverted defamation like this. So they lie and defame and try to do character assassination of customers. Just for fun or do they have a mental illness like gender dysphoria, are transgender themselves and project this onto normal people, that other people must be transgender too by default? Decide for yourself, but why would any normal man or woman go there as a customer to be treated like that? Maybe LGBTQ people and transgender people would be happy to go there. This woke mind virus really has become a mental health pandemic which starts to make simple interactions in public difficult. I noticed that the LGBTQ community gives straight biological males weird names like "cis-male" or something (I don't know exactly and I don't care) instead of just "male", as if born a male and staying a male is something weird. It's no surprise that according to statistics leftist/woke people have the highest rates for mental illness and psychotherapeutic drugs. The location and vibe is fantastic. The service is ok. Was served an appetizer that wasn't ordered and five minutes later the waitress reclaimed it to service to another table. The food is terrible. I think if you are only wanting drinks then this place could be a hit. Just don't order food. read more

Enjoyed a lovely walk along the River Tyne and also walked along the Millenium Bridge from Newcastle to Gateshead. Working up an appetite we walked back over the bridge to The Pitcher and Piano. What a lovely bar and restaurant over looking the river this is a huge glass fronted building that allows you to admire the veiws of the river and the bridges from both floors. The staff were rushed off their feet bless them so we did endure a cock up and a bit of a wait. However this is a super bar and restaurant in a wonderful location. The menu could of had a bit more by the way of choice but the food was cooked well and hit the spot. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed Main - 8oz RIB EYE STEAK Char-grilled rib eye steak, confit tomato, flat mushroom, skin-on chips - £15.95 (Requested cooked medium) WHen the main was served I asked for a glass of Malbec - 250 ml - £6.45 The Bad The steak was overcooked, and the char-grilled was more like charcoal. Chips were also over cooked, and tasted quite awful. I returned the meal...... and also waited for my glass of wine.... The Ugly A new steak, equally tasting more like charcoal, with more chips plastered on the plate (and they didn't look the skin-on chips as advertised), and still overcooked. By this time I was still waiting for that glass of wine..... You know what? I was totally fed up, and said to the waiter, to take it away as I couldn't eat it. Also reminded him about the wine...... He'd forgotten.... I drank my wine read the newspaper, and waited ages to attract the attention for the bill. The bill arrived, and the main was taken off the bill, but I reminded the waiter that I had had a glass of wine, which wasn't showing. I am honest. Hadn't been to a P&P for a few years so when I saw this one in Newcastle I thought I'd re-acquaint myself! The restaurant itself is right on the quayside in full view of the majestic Tyne bridges - a truly superb location where you can watch the boats go by and people strolling along the riverside. It was quite busy in the bar area, obviously a popular spot, probably helped by the nice sunny weather this evening! I was offered a table with good views over the river and settled down to look at the menu. Whilst it's not a big menu (by Frankie & Benny standards) there's enough choice and I opted for a BBQ Pork Burrito with a side of skinny fries although it took quite a while for them to take my order. Food arrived a little too quick for my liking and left me wondering if it had been microwaved - probably! :-( That said, the dish was very nice and tasty - loaded with guacamole, salsa, sour cream and cheese! Nom nom nom.... Unfortunately I wasn't quite full and as work was paying, I chose a Belgian waffle with caramelised banana and vanilla ice cream to finish me off...and it did! This time, more hints at a microwave chef as my waffle was pretty solid within a couple of minutes of bring served. Tasted good though. Would I go back, yes probably as it's a stunning location but there are other tasty options along this stretch of the river ranging from Malmaison to Gusto and La Tasca to name a few. I've been to the restaurant and bar twice. A while since my first visit, I was stunned why I hadn't come more often. Great, knowledgeable waitresses, that are attentive but not over-bearing. The music at the bar is usually turned up slowly through the course of our meal; and, normally there is always a birthday party going on. The food tastes great, and is priced well for its quality. The nacho plate is huge, and must be split between two people - even as an starter. The main course was wonderful, and the desert was overwhelming. What will bring me back are the staff and godly wonderful drinks. Great presentation, and cocktails are wonderfully strong and tasty. read more

Went here on holiday in 2018 and I still dream about the fish and chips, best I've ever had.

Excellent location directly on the quayside offering beautiful views of the backdrop of bridges over the river Tyne. An ideal destination for those rare days when the sun is shining...lots of outdoor seating and a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed! Drinks are very pricey but then it is one of the only bars directly on the river and you pay for location here. The food is pretty good but nothing to shout home about. My one pet hate about this bar is that you end up waiting for ages at the bar even when it's quiet so I have actually chosen to walk a bit further towards Ouseburn on some occasions! read more

Honestly, I remember this place more for the in the moment experience rather than the food. My family and I came across this cozy pub while staying over at the hotel across the river. It is really hard to miss if you are crossing the Millennium bridge to the Newcastle side. The place is usually crowded and the outside area is a very popular area to both dine and drink in. Keep in mind, kitchen service is only provided on the first floor and closes at around 10 at night. Both myself and my brother ordered fish & chips. I personally ordered a passion fruit cooler (non-alcholic drink) that the waiter recommended to me. Thoughts: 1) Fish & Chips: The tartar sauce was splendid and the fish was great. My only main concern was the chips; half of it was crisp while the other half was soggy. Otherwise, the dish is wonderful! The dish itself was around £10. 2) Passion Fruit Cooler: The drink was an interesting mix of orange juice, cranberry juice, passion fruit purée, vanilla sugar syrup and lemon juice. The citrus taste of each fruit complimented each other very well. I just found that the drink seemed too sweet (this was also the opinion of my brother). If you plan on getting this drink, I suggest telling the server to lessen the amount of vanilla sugar syrup that is mixed in the drink. The drink came to about £3.50. Environment: The environment itself was beautiful! We were fortunate enough to get seats outside. Pitcher & Piano exudes a warm, social, atmosphere, and so it is a perfect place to just meet up with a couple of friends and catch up. The server was very friendly, and provided us with a toolbox filled with extra utensils and sauces for our meal. Excellent location for a drink on a sunny day if you're looking for nice view up and down the Tyne, it's especially nice around sunset when the bridges and the Sage get lit up. Drinks are kind of expensive though, which is a bit of a shame, and it always seems to be 3 deep at the bar regardless of the time, or day. I haven't tried the food here so I couldn't comment on that. The other issues I have with P&P is 1) the distance you have to walk to get to the next pub/bar, no real issue in itself... unless you have women out with you and they're wearing high heels. Nightmare. 2) it's very popular with stag and hen parties, so even early evening time can be quite lairy. read more

Great views over the Tyne to the Baltic, you get to see the millennium bridge open if you're lucky, though the opening times are in the wee place by the end of the bridge. The cocktails and the view from this places are to die for! It has quite a relaxed atmosphere during the day but as night falls in becomes quite packed and hectic. If you can squeeze in for a drink on your night out it is worth it as the music and drinks are fab. The food is so-so and in my opinion, not worth the price you pay for it - although the nibbles they serve are quite nice with a drink and a natter. Pitcher & Piano in Newcastle is set in a viewing pavilion perched right on Quayside, with some of the best night views of the city. It is located right next to the Eye, a new pedestrian bridge by architect Santiago Calatrava. It is not only a beautiful piece of architectural and engineering work, it is also an exciting spectacle when the bridge is lifted - and there is probably no better place to enjoy this spectacle from than P&P. There is a roof terrace for fine summer days, and two floors of contemporary lounge space with sweeping views out onto the Tyne, the bridges, the Baltic (which is right opposite) and the peculiar Foster-child the Sage. As you might be guessing, this makes for a strategic location, whereby you can come in for drinks or a coffee after enjoying either one of the aforementioned sites. Otherwise, the menu is probably standard for Pitchen & Piano chain. read more

I love coming here on a warm, sunny day to sit outside on the massive patio and watch the river. Can't be beat! It would never occur to me to eat here, but it's spot-on for drinks. Great people watching. Last time, my friend and I split this massive amount of Pimms that was served in a big silver metal hat and was overflowing with fresh fruit. The drinks are a bit pricey, but you're paying for the view and for the best summertime patio on the Quayside. I don't know why you'd drive there, but if you did, they do validate parking if you park behind the bar. read more

If you're looking to grab a drink at a great location among good looking people this is the place. If you're looking to eat I would go across the street to Gusto. Although I wasn't impressed with most food in Newcastle the service was equally disappointing. Being an American I guess we are just accustomed to customer service being part of the dining experience. I stayed across the street at a hotel and after a long work day was looking for a good restaurant to get take out from. The bartender told me that they didn't offer to go service. That was a bit confusing but nonetheless I decided to sit down and have a meal. I told the waiter that I would be ordering an appetizer and burger and to bring it all out at once. I stated that because they didn't offer take out I would be boxing up most of it to-go. He said no problem. That was the last time I saw the guy. A different person was now waiting on me. After I had a bit of my entree I asked for a to-go box. The girl explained that they don't offer this in England (not true) She stated that I could not leave the restaurant with food. I understand not leaving with alcohol but FOOD!? What do people do when they can't eat their entire meal? It's not like the recipes are so incredible that they need to be safeguarded. I later found out from locals that the waiter could have wrapped the order in foil but that she probably just didn't want to. I had the calamari which was the worst I had had in all of the UK. I've had better frozen calamari at home. Also had the New Yorker burger. A far cry from gourmet New York burgers. The meat quality was poor as well as the sauces. You can't expect great service in Newcastle and I completely understand that but the experience I had here was the worst I've ever had while traveling abroad. read more

Not cheap but this reflects the great drinks available and the knowledgeable and helpful staff who went out of there way to ensure that we enjoyed our time there. When we ordered a bottle of red wine the barman instantly identified that we were basing our decision on price rather than grape type and told us which bottle was on special offer. This bar has a fantastic location and is a nice building, a great place for the summer months. The bar area is always packed though and drinks far from cheap, the place also always has that feel of a place that looks like its been open for 36 hours straight, popular with hen parties etc which normally makes the place seem more chav than it probably is, I would be interested to see what the place was like on a Tuesday night for example but it just hasn't got the greatish pull for me to actually go there on a Tuesday though, great bar for a drunken night out but rubbish for anything more relaxing I would imagine read more

Lack of any real charm or character is made up for by a superb location overlooking Newcastle Quayside. Busy with stag and hen do's at the weekend, it's actually a pretty chilled out place the rest of the time and easy enough to find seats for a quiet drink. Almost unique in Newcastle in that it also has seats outdoors in warmer months. read more
