We were in the mood for a South American restaurant and someone suggested here. Walking in we felt like the food was going to be fire as it gave off an atmosphere of home cooking and the "gathering house" where everyone goes to eat. I enjoyed seeing Peruvian culture being repped on all the walls. I had to Google some of the geoglyphs like the monkey one because it was cause for a great debate at our table. The young lady server was very nice and took good care of us. The menu? Everything sounded really good and we had a semi-hard time deciding what to get. We did start off with a Pisco Sour and a Maracuya cocktail. Both were pretty light and tasty. One co-worker had a tooth removed so all he could eat was soup so he ordered the Sopa de Dia which was chicken. He said it was pretty good for the big bowl he was served. One co-worker got the Bistec Apanado (deep fried steak with sides of meduros and fries). He said the steak was tough and his meduros were either not fully cooked or overcooked. Another co-worker got the Bistec A Lo Pobre (flank steak, rice, fries, meduros, fried eggs). She said the steak was tough too. Same problem with the meduros. The other co-worker got the Arroz Con Mariscos (mixed seafood yellow rice). His came out first and it smelled amazing. He's not a fan of cilantro and it was topped with it. He's one of those weirdos that the gene that cilantro tastes like soap lol. He still liked his food and at most of it. He left the calamari rings behind stating that they were too chewy for him. We all tried it and we were pretty split on the statement. I ordered the Mixto Ceviche (raw fish, calamari, and shrimp) with added spiciness. Don't ask me why I chose spicy, I just knew that it was going to be spicy as in more spice and not like spicy hot. It was very good even though I felt as if I had too much liquid on my plate. Sopping it up was out of the question as it was very sea-salty. I'm not sure who's child it was but a young guy came up to me and asked what I was eating I told him and then he walked away. I tried out Pisco's Peruvian Restaurant today for lunch and got the Carne de Chaufa. It's Peruvian fried rice with steak, eggs, and green onions. For only $17 you get enough rice for two meals easily. The steak was tender and the green onions had a bit of crunch to it. Overall a great plate of beef fried rice. The only thing missing was some kind of sauce to tie it together. The leftovers I had for dinner tonight and I fried an egg over-easy. Mixing the runny yolk with the rice was perfect. I was looking for a place to have lunch before going to the movies and found this place on Southside. We had lomo saltado and fried rice and both dishes were terrific. To me a good dish is one where you don't need to reach for the salt and pepper and these were perfect. The aji verde was spiced well, not super hot so it was a great addition to the dish. We were so full we didn't get a chance to have dessert but we definitely will next time. They have a lunch special and I plan to come back for lunch during the week. read more

This restaurant is tucked in on Southside Blvd, so you could miss it. However it's worth going to. Upon entering, I noticed cute dining tables that felt like I was at someone's grandmothers house. Nice table cloths with the plastic. Very elegant feel and very clean. Staff were constantly cleaning. I was disappointed that there weren't more people. Service - Amazing. Very nice and catered to us. We asked questions and were given great recommendations. Food - We had the yucca fries and beef hearts to start. I was surprised by the beef hearts, but it was very flavorful and delicious. The yucca fries came with a surprisingly cold cheese sauce, but good. The kids meals were huge. Our entrees were delicious. My husband got the steak lomo saltado and I got the pesto spaghetti with steak. Each very different and delicious. The Komi lomo had a great sauce and came with everything my husband wanted (i.e. fries, rice, onions, tomatoes and steak). I loved how rich the pesto spaghetti was and it wasn't overpowered by cheese. We ended with ice cream for the kids and flan. Everyone makes flan different to me and this was thicker, but delicious. I've been living in Jacksonville for about 3 months now and this is the restaurant that I have been to the most. I'm a big fan of small, homey places with authentic flavors and this place perfectly hits every mark. Every single dish has the perfect flavor and balance. The Ceviche is fresh and delicious with peruvian corn and lots of lime juice. The Jalea de Mariscos is fried to perfection and the right amount to share. The arroz chaufa is my husbands favorite and its a great price for the amount of food. The things I can say about dishes and service are endless but this place deserves it. First time eating Peruvian food. It was pretty tasty. The portions are very generous. I had the lunch special, beef soup in a bowl not a cup, could almost make the lunch out of the soup. The service could've been great however there was only one really nice young lady & we were 12 guys they knew were coming. Then she also had the usual lunch crowd to handle. It was way too much for one person to handle. As a result the service was slow. They should've staffed accordingly. The place is comfortable but showing it's age. I placed a Togo order. The food containers were well wrapped in plastic so that nothing was going to spill. I wish all restaurants did this. Server was very pleasant and the restaurant interior was large and looked like a comfortable place to eat. When I got back to hotel, food was still hot and all necessary utensils included. Chicharron was one of the best: crispy outside and juicy inside and most importantly well seasoned and not too salty. Platanos were not overcooked and were sweeeeet. Loved them. My wife and I had dinner here with friends. Food was delicious. I ordered the Chicharrones de Pollo. Since this is a Peruvian restaurant, they use chicken breast chunks fried to a crisp. (I was used to chicken thigh pieces with the skin still attached and fried to a crisp which maybe a Cuban-type Chicharrones de pollo). The chicken meat was nicely fried and moist. It's a little healthier since it's all white meat. For the sides, I had the sweet plantains and chaufa, Peruvian style fried rice. I had a bite of my wife's order, Bistec Encebollado, steak and onions and she had a big side of the Peruvian fried rice. She initially received a side of fries which was corrected. Fries and rice kind of sound the same right :) The fried rice was superb. We were still kinda full from our brunch earlier, but we still ate everything. Good service! First time to try this place out for lunch and it was good! I had the lunch special which included sou, entree of the day and a drink for $10.95 and it was well worth it. The soup was reminiscent of a very good beef and vegetable soup. That alone would have made my tummy happy, but then the entree came. Cooked to perfection chicken with vegetables in a thin sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Hands down the most authentic Peruvian food we've found in the greater Jacksonville area. The servers all wore masks and the establishment seemed concerned with Covid 19 precautions. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The mural has been painted 7/2015, so obviously the restaurant has some longevity. I highly recommend trying it. We will definitely be making a return visit because everything was so good and there are other things on the menu we are anxious to try. The only Peruvian food I've ever had was homemade by someone who catered to an office I used to work for. I had no idea what to order. But, after googling their popular dishes, my friend and I opted for the Lomo Saltado (Sauteed Beef with french fries) and Aji de Gallina (Chicken in a rich and creamy sauce. The cool thing is that the menu itself also suggested these two items. The Lomo Saltado reminds of Filipino Adobo. I definitely tasted the soy sauce/vinegar base. The awesome thing is that instead of regular potatoes, they throw in french fries. It has tomatoes and onions too. Basically a steak in a soy sauce with a hint of sourness to it. Not bad! The french fries threw me off but its just potatoes in soup lol. Its not weird when you actually think about it. The dish my friend ordered is what I call a safe dish. Anyone would eat this! This chicken is soo good. Its creamy and it doesn't taste bland as it looks! I like a little bit more color in my food but after biting into the chicken I just absolutely enjoyed it! My friend says it tastes like chicken casserole and I would have to agree. It definitely tastes like comfort food. My favorite part was how friendly our server was! I read previous reviews and was wary about how service was gonna be! They are flawless! Very friendly and very fast. Papa a la Huancaina Hola mi nombre es Marie y quería saber... ¿Por qué la Papa a la Huancaina salada? Every time I have ordered this - every single time it's been salty. (Every so often it's too spicy.) I can work with the heat. I don't know what to do with an item that is continually salty. The only reason I even gave the item repeated attempts is because it comes out fairly quickly. Everything else takes time on Friday night with a large party. 90% of the time I visit is with a large group on someone else's request prior to hitting up Aromas. Because the meals are so HUGE - I never get a chance to try dessert. So one day I stop in right after work to check out the desserts. Finally I was able to try out Crema Volteada -(upside down crème) = flan! No flan can ever go wrong and this did not disappoint. It was a vanilla caramel creamy perfectly chilled piece of deliciousness. Service ... is slow. Friendly but extremely slow. The only problem when trying something new... that takes a long time... you want to be wowed by your food. I enjoyed some good dishes but I was never wowed! Now if there was crema volteada de chocolate... that would be perfect! But flan alone still wouldn't enough. But not a bad place to try something new. So A-OK with me. read more

Don't speak Spanish?, get ready for even worse service. Good Peruvian food. The place has an old school family feel to it. My favorite dish here is the Lomo Saltado. It is a big plate of stir fried beef, onions, tomatoes, potato fries, and rice. It is a large dish so you will not leave hungry. Everything is good as-is. However, if you ask them to replace the potato fries to yucca, it becomes a game changer. The potatoes soak up the juices in the dish and get a soggy mid-way through. The yucca stays crunchy throughout the dish. Do yourself a favor and try it out. You can also ask for a spicy sauce to drizzle over everything to give the dish a little punch. They have a daily lunch special that is a soup + entrée. I've had the lunch special on Fridays a couple of times (I think the special varies on the day). The soup is a seafood soup and the entrée is a small side salad, fried fish, and white rice. Nice and simple meal. If I had a Peruvian grandmother, she would probably make this dish when I come over. One thing to note though is that service is a bit slow. Don't expect to come in and be out within an hour. Lunch usually takes 1.5 hours. If you have the time to spare, the food makes it worth it. read more

Restaurant is very run down. Just saw pictures from 3 years ago and it looks like a completely different place. We ordered the family size Jalea. It hurt to pay the bill. The fish was very oily and the calamari had a very "ocean" taste. I doubt that they washed the seafood. Worst calamari and fish I've had in my life. Food was deep fried but on the burnt end of things. I will give the place 1 star, but the 2 star review is for their staff, who was very friendly, and gave us good service despite the restaurant conditions. I don't eat Peruvian food as a norm. That being said I love Peruvian ceviche so I wanted to try something else this time. I had their Lomo Saltado and a pork tamale. The tamale was very good I loved the onions on the side they reminded me of great ceviche, very tasty. The main dish I didn't love, I think the idea of it was very interesting, steak with fries with a side of rice sounds great but it tasted like pepper steak from a Chinese restaurant. Now, this was my first time trying this dish so for all I know that's how it's meant to be but it wasn't my favorite. The place is clean, not too small or fancy. Service was good.
