The village is cute and is similar to Colchester by the lake. The spa has nice views of the lake although a road and parking lot sit in between. The cold water plunge pool is a great asset. The wet and dry saunas are large and comfortable. The spa is super clean. The water is not warm enough in the large pool. The jets, which are sold as therapeutic for different parts of your body are weak and thus serve no purpose. A robe costs $10 to rent and you must purchase shower shoes also! The towels are tiny, rough and stale smelling and you are given one on arrival with no more around the pool. There are no bath products in the dressing rooms. Not even a box of tissues! Finally, the aesthetic is a weird mix of up and down market. Sad plastic plants surround each station. A collection of random multicolored umbrellas hang from the ceiling. If it went all the way kitsch and had some great service and food like a Korean spa then sure, I'd be on board. Alas, it limps along neither one thing nor another. I like the village though and will visit there when the weather warms up.

For my "hot" I enjoyed the eucalyptus steam sauna (taking deep relaxing inhales), and the hot tub waterfall (spent several minutes with the water falling in my head which was very vigorous, then just tilt you head forward for a wonderful shoulder therapy). For my "cold", the cold plunge shower was amazing only needed the 20sec blasts, and the cold plunge tub just pinch your nose and fully submerge for 15-20 seconds. After all of that I grabbed a sofa in the resting area and just decompressed to process the entire morning. I hope to come back here every time I visit Montreal in the future

They allow way too many people in the thermal journey which ruins the spa experience. They do not provide spa slippers and allow customers to bring their own slippers, which could be dirty to walk around the inside of the spa. They charge you $40/slippers which is robbery. We got the duo massage which, for $500+ you'd expect a premium massage, but they hire inexperienced people who do not know how to do deep tissue massages. They increased the prices for special dates but also allow more people in, which defeats the purpose of increasing the price. MONEY HUNGRY scam artists. The bathrooms are consistently dirty, locker rooms crowded and only 3 showers and 3 toilets. This place is a JOKE. To top it off, I asked for some sort of compensation for the experience and the manager said they couldn't do anything about it. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN.

The fact that this spa is on a boat and half of it was outdoors was the appeal! So we booked just the water circuit (no extras, just saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs) to see if this was even something we'd like. Turns out the December visit was the way to go! It wasn't packed at all, and turns out that sitting in a hot tub while the snow falls on your face is actually a top ten life experience. It was cold as heck out, mind you, but somehow you never feel chilly when you're going in and out of saunas and hot tubs. I did wish some of the relaxation rooms were a bit warmer, or there was an ability to swap out a soaking towel at some point, but I was never uncomfortable. Everything was clean and people around us were respectful. I loved the no phone policy and definitely chilled out to staring into this strangely brutalist bay. David Lynch relaxation vibes. The best was the floor where you could sit in a porthole window -- only wish we had discovered it earlier! I would totally come back here and check out some of their other offerings. My back needed a massage due to sitting in a position for too long. What do I need? Definitely a deep tissue massage. The reservation was pretty straightforward, with the receptionist taking my credit card number through the phone. On my way there, they asked if I am using the same card like the one on the phone, and I said yes. They gave me a form to fill while I was waiting, and I filled it in less than 3 minutes. The rest of the wait was not long; I think I waited around 5 minutes before being called to go to a room. An hour later, I came out of the room feeling happy and joyful. My back is a lot less tense, and it feels more flexible. What about the cleanliness during Covid? The light was off with a bit of light to make sure I don't fall. The spa was well-kept and in good condition overall. I felt quite safe. I'll definitely be back to enjoy other amenities that are opening back up on March 26th to give a throughout review of my experience there.

My only regret was at the last minute I forgot to pack my bathing suit, so I had to buy one at their reception. (They provide robes and towels, but it's also Bring Your Own Flip Flops.) Note - The morning ticket is only for 3 hours, so you might consider the full day ticket. About the facilities, Balnea is located at the head of a lake within a nature reserve. Most of the spa experiences direct your view to the placid lake ensconced in surrounding forrest. The exception include certain enclosed spaces intended to cut you off visual from any distractions, like the Grotto sauna, Maroccon Salon with cocoon beds and reading space, nature cinema that can be enjoyed with or without audio, the aquarium room, as well as the eucalyptus steam room and sauna. Most other enclosed spaces, including saunas, have picture windows facing the lake. One unusual view I'd recommend checking out includes the awesome wooden nonagon cone beds facing deep into the forrest. The spaces are divided into whispering spaces and strictly enforced zones of silence. (In a very Big Brother moment, I was reprimanded twice by staff for whispering to my family even when no one else was in earshot.) Given that, considering cameras and phones are not allowed, Balnea has really structured the experience to ensure you focus on relaxing and personal wellness. Note - 3 hours is a good time to cover many of the spaces, like a tasting menu, but you may want to splurge on the nominal extra for a full day not to be rushed. Beyond the wooden cone bed, my favorite experiences there included: + The heated Infinity pool that had jets not only for the back but also feet and legs allowing me to soothe my muscles; + The steam room with eucalyptus; + The sauna by the lake and super hot sauna in the building; + The heated pool with waterfall and whirlpool jets; + The cocoon bed in the Moroccan Salon; + The floating beds on the lake, enabling me to listen to the water lightly splashing; and + The fire pit with (provided) marshmallows for roasting! Balnea calls itself a Nordic Spa. Having lived for years in Finland, there is nothing I experienced like this there although there may be so today. No sauna I was in had windows and we always went naked! That being said, Balnea is a fantastic experience. (My family even attests to enjoying it during the winter.) Recommend you check it out!

I also play roller derby and my body gets a pretty bad beating from the full contact. He did a superb job both times I've gone to see him. I will for sure be going back for massages in the future. He's super polite and seems to love his job. I highly recommend going to see him for a massage! Very reasonably priced. Every corner brings another opportunity to find your ideal zen: lying, sitting or standing. Cold, cool, warm or hot. Fire or water. Quite and calm or full sensory. I was absolutely shocked at the number of areas. Each time I thought I'd found my "ideal," I found another I liked even more. It was very peaceful and, for the most part, other patrons respected the "speak quietly" signs across the spa. I received a massage (it was less than ideal and I'll purchase the day pass instead, next time--hence the one star deduction). To check in for the massage, you simply go to the waiting area and wait for your name to be called. No check in, but make sure to arrive early to complete your health questionnaire! When I finished the massage, I enjoyed lunch in the bistro, reasonably priced, though they weren't particularly friendly at the counter, and then reclaimed my zen on a hammock overlooking the river. By this time it had become significantly busier but there was still plenty of room and seating available. A few tips: --$10 gets you robe and towel rental. You can bring your own and avoid the charge --bring flip flops or slider shoes --showers are available, but you'll want to bring your own shampoo and a rag --you receive a bracelet that opens and locks your locker, so feel free to bring that backpack! --the bistro isn't the only place for food or drink... smaller bites and drinks are available from the food trailer near the River --robes in the bistro are acceptable!
