My family in Burlington wanted to have a celebration, so they decided we should head to Balnea for…read morea Sunday morning "Reserve and Thermal Experience." So glad we did! My only regret was at the last minute I forgot to pack my bathing suit, so I had to buy one at their reception. (They provide robes and towels, but it's also Bring Your Own Flip Flops.) Note - The morning ticket is only for 3 hours, so you might consider the full day ticket. About the facilities, Balnea is located at the head of a lake within a nature reserve. Most of the spa experiences direct your view to the placid lake ensconced in surrounding forrest. The exception include certain enclosed spaces intended to cut you off visual from any distractions, like the Grotto sauna, Maroccon Salon with cocoon beds and reading space, nature cinema that can be enjoyed with or without audio, the aquarium room, as well as the eucalyptus steam room and sauna. Most other enclosed spaces, including saunas, have picture windows facing the lake. One unusual view I'd recommend checking out includes the awesome wooden nonagon cone beds facing deep into the forrest. The spaces are divided into whispering spaces and strictly enforced zones of silence. (In a very Big Brother moment, I was reprimanded twice by staff for whispering to my family even when no one else was in earshot.) Given that, considering cameras and phones are not allowed, Balnea has really structured the experience to ensure you focus on relaxing and personal wellness. Note - 3 hours is a good time to cover many of the spaces, like a tasting menu, but you may want to splurge on the nominal extra for a full day not to be rushed. Beyond the wooden cone bed, my favorite experiences there included: + The heated Infinity pool that had jets not only for the back but also feet and legs allowing me to soothe my muscles; + The steam room with eucalyptus; + The sauna by the lake and super hot sauna in the building; + The heated pool with waterfall and whirlpool jets; + The cocoon bed in the Moroccan Salon; + The floating beds on the lake, enabling me to listen to the water lightly splashing; and + The fire pit with (provided) marshmallows for roasting! Balnea calls itself a Nordic Spa. Having lived for years in Finland, there is nothing I experienced like this there although there may be so today. No sauna I was in had windows and we always went naked! That being said, Balnea is a fantastic experience. (My family even attests to enjoying it during the winter.) Recommend you check it out!

It was so soothing & ethereal. I tried out the very cold, plunge pool multiple times since I have read of its ice cold "rejuvenating powers" & it certainly was invigorating. We also spent time in the Moroccan-themed pods, enjoyed the steam room (we skipped the sauna), the waterfall pool &, capped off our Zen evening sitting by the firepit, perusing the night sky for shooting stars. Although we thought that the obligatory tip added to our bill/reservation was a tad high, our evening of pools with their ubiquitous & strong jacuzzi jets, star/mountain & deer gazing & quietude (there is a dedicated "shhh" person who walks around, reminding folks to not talk) was worth the price. You will be supplied with terry robes & showers are available to rinse off as well as lockers, as well as a dining area. Enjoy your time here as we did!

Complete with four different saunas, three hot tubs, a four-season pool and two relaxation yurts, we enjoyed our two-day spa circuit and never really got bored of the offerings. Having booked a massage and an evening at the villa, the whole kit and caboodle came to $390, tax in, for both of us. Compared to other deals in the area this was the best I could dig up. The serene outdoors aspect of the spa was definitely my favourite. Additionally, visiting while it was chilly but still warm enough to walk around in a robe made the experience that much better. I highly recommend doing your cold dip at some point in the waters by the fall and then relaxing in the hammocks slightly away from the other visitors. The massages varied for us- my mom loved her massage while I could have done without the dude farting the whole time (true story). That being said, the little heated yurts they use by the water for massages are down-right perfect. Finally, the villa we slept in was lovely. I truly recommend making the most of your visit and spending the night (they throw a second day of the baths in for free). While it's a pretty no-frills situation: no breakfast, shared bathroom and small room it's soooo nice to wake up and head back to the baths.

I was not offered water, tea,or coffee like other high end spa's offer actually almost every spa! On that note I'll finish this topic with saying I saw another customer given a glass of champagne, that would have been nice.My daughter enjoyed her swedish spa treatment. I had the longest message they offer the girl was extremely nice but I didn't enjoy her sticking her fingers in my ears or squeezing my lymph glands under my armpits! I actually told her how much it hurt and she did it again! To top this unusual treatment I have very curly hair and she kept going through my hair as If I had straight hair.If you have curly hair you know how painful this is.I ended up in pain for weeks from my underarms I had to go to the doctors twice! My word of advice is tell them straight out don't squeeze under your arm, don't stick fingers in your ears and just leave your hair and I would say scalp alone. I did enjoy the products I purchased.

It seems like multiple people have had this experience. The AC/heating unit in our room was so loud that it was difficult to sleep! 2. The spa experience and staff also failed to meet the mark of the luxurious experience this place promises (especially for the price.) The message therapists were very chatty. I am polite, but I don't want to be having a personal conversation while getting massaged. The masseuse massaging my wife kept commenting on how tense my wife felt during the massage and said, "Wow, you really can't relax" and then also said "I think you're the type of person that needs to talk during this in order to relax" (which, I can assure you, is the farthest thing from the truth when it comes to my wife. She does not want to chit chat.) Overall, the entire experience just rubbed me the wrong way and seemed to lack professionalism and the quality of a truly upscale spa. 3. Every single meal, the staff always mixed up our bill, even mixing it up a second time in one meal after we corrected them on which room number to charge.
