I have a sale conference in the area this week so came early to spend some time at the spa. It's on a lake ... this time of year the leaves are changing and the colours are gorgeous. There are lots of hot tubs, whirlpools, saunas, etc. Everyone wanders around in bathing suits and white robes and does their own thing. I had two services ... a moisturizing head massage with Corrine and a 60 minute full body massage with Marie Josee (her massage was different than I've had in the past and amazing!). A couple complaints: It would be nice if there was a supply of towels in the change room. You are issued one towel when you check in and that's it. Having a cleaner drier towel would have been nice after I took a shower rather than using the one I dried off with after using the hot tub. Plus I like using two towels (one for my hair). Also, there were no supplies like QTips, cotton balls, etc. in the change room like I've seen in other spas. Finally, though everyone was nice, most of the instructions/messages around the spa are in French (not all are in English too). With my high school French, I was able to figure out which was the shampoo/body wash and which was conditioner. If I'm ever in the area, I'd go back.

This is the best spa of life! Go if you haven't already! I highly recommend it! I love that there's a lake. If you go now you can already see the leaves changing colour and it's gorgeous. I love the floating devices that allow you to relax and tan on the lake. I like the fact that there's a fire station where you can roast marshmallows. And finally I like that you can sip bubbly or drink a beer or a glass of wine while you are in the hot tub. I've never seen this done at a spa before. The last time i came however they had informed me that they were understaffed because school started so the bar was closed and I would have to go all the way up to the main house to get alcohol and bring it back down. We had lunch at the restaurant. We chose to keep it light and stuck to cheese and charcuterie. I think just the cheese plate on it's own would have been enough. I came here once before for lunch and to me it was nothing special and I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you are very hungry. Everything else about this spa is amazing though!

Very nice getaway that balances great facilities with nature! I went on a rainy day to enjoy the heated pools, many saunas and comfortable lounges. We have breathtaking views of the lake as well as nature and it is very colourful especially in the fall ! For the brave you can swim in the lake which and enjoy some marshmallows by the fire after! The restaurant serves excellent food focused around health and local products! The plates are just beautiful and well paired with a glass of wine. I would probably rate this as the best spa in Quebec and it is only around an hour away from Montreal so it is the perfect getaway !
Came here for the Twilight session with my sisters & we had a great, relaxing time, staying until 9:30 PM, lolling in the long, narrow, nicely-heated jacuzzi pool as we watched the deer cross the field by the lake @ the bottom of the hill (except for the lake, which was closed for the evening, & its lakehouse, most amenities are on & built into a hill). It was so soothing & ethereal. I tried out the very cold, plunge pool multiple times since I have read of its ice cold "rejuvenating powers" & it certainly was invigorating. We also spent time in the Moroccan-themed pods, enjoyed the steam room (we skipped the sauna), the waterfall pool &, capped off our Zen evening sitting by the firepit, perusing the night sky for shooting stars. Although we thought that the obligatory tip added to our bill/reservation was a tad high, our evening of pools with their ubiquitous & strong jacuzzi jets, star/mountain & deer gazing & quietude (there is a dedicated "shhh" person who walks around, reminding folks to not talk) was worth the price. You will be supplied with terry robes & showers are available to rinse off as well as lockers, as well as a dining area. Enjoy your time here as we did! read more

Peaceful, clean and the perfect relaxing space. Loved the thermal experience, facial and massage

The best massage I've ever received was here and it ass 90 mins I wish it didn't end. You have the most beautiful, scenic view by the lake, where you can float and swim. There are an abundance of thermal baths at this spa so you'll never feel cramped up with strangers. Honestly had the best experience here and would definitely go back. I had lunch here with a friend and the food was excellent. I would pass on the vegan chocolate mousse as you can actually taste the avocado and it wasn't pleasant. I spent an entire day here and didn't have enough. You can also go into the forest and there are private tents, there's a fireplace, a mini bar, its endless. My favourite spa yet! read more

Balnea is the best spa in the Montreal area! Located on a semi-private lake the setting is beautiful. They have two main area at the spa one located up near the main buildings where you will find hot and cold tubs, dry and steam sauna's, relaxation rooms and everything the you would expect to find at a top notch spa. One of the beauty's of Balnea is that there is second area right down by the lake with more hot tubs, a sauna and relaxation areas. Plus there is the lake! You can head out onto the lake on a floating pontoon to relax and if you want to cool off just take a dip in the crystal clear water of this beautiful lake. Because they have these two large distinct area the spa never feels cramped or crowded, even when they are busy. There are also at least three area, indoors and or out, where you can enjoy a bite to eat or a glass of wine. Blanea really is a great spot to enjoy a relaxing day. Or arrive after 5 for a reduced price and a great evening. read more
One of the best winter spa experiences in my life. Hands down. Just look at the pictures on the site. it's amazing how close this place is to Montreal. I went with three friends (two couples), it was lightly snowing the whole time and we stayed past 9:30 PM (at least). The views of the snow-covered lake from the outdoor spas through the rising steam were unreal. The food and fresh fruit they give you after your massage and the tea are amazing. I think my favorite room was the fish room (tiered stairs with lots of pills and two huge tropical fish tanks.) SO relaxing. There's also the cold plunge, dry and wet saunas, and a huge cold waterfall pool (see website). Don't forget the warm room outside. it's like a stone cave/igloo sauna. Definitely worth a brisk "jog' from the lower Jacuzzis. One of the outdoor Jacuzzis also has a little cave/overhang. Not quick the PB Mansion, but the snow does add a little something extra. Also, our couples massage was amazing (whether my luck or design, both women spoke English). read more

I had an excellent time at Balnea! My massage was great, but what sets it apart is the thermal experience. It's truly a retreat with so many different spots to check out. I wish we could go two days. There's a lake where you can swim and float, a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, several different pools with different temperatures, and several saunas. Suggestions: bring your own sandals. I've never been to spa where they weren't provided, so we had to trudge up and down the stone path without them. We found it kind of bothersome that you could only order drinks from two locations, especially with the grounds being so expansive. I think it would be smart/ profitable for them to them have their staff take drink/ food orders. We would've ordered a lot more! read more

The ultimate best! Situated on a gigantic land, with view ad access to a lake in the Eastern Township, Le Spa Balnea is an experience that everyone should live once. Too many spas have opened in the past years and have gone crazy on the look without really thinking about the space and the experience. Le Balnea offers it all. Beautiful, soothing, and so spacious that I cannot imagine a lack of space when it's full. Someone told me it is considered one of the Best in North America. I have no doubt about it! I generally spend 2-3h in a spa, tired of it after a while...I lasted 4h30 and someone had to tell us it was closing :) -- La meilleure expérience!
Balnea was highly recommended by a fellow spa-goer. I haven't tried many Montreal spas (just Scandinave Tremblant, Scandinave Old Port, and Bota Bota). I'm Eastern European, so I'm used to all kinds of spa treatments outside of Montreal. I've been to Finland, so I've tried their real Finnish spa. This was followed by Japanese onsen in Takayama and Kyoto, Turkish baths in Antalya, and some real Russian "banya" - spa with 100% humidity, snow-diving, frozen-river-diving, and being beaten up by angry Russians with birch-tree brooms (yes - exactly the way you saw it in Eastern Promises). Anyways, the drive to Balnea was not long, which is a major plus, as compared to Scandinave Tremblant. Plenty of road signs to Balnea Spa made it easy. As we are driving up through picturesque country side I'm getting excited. Suddenly I see an awesomely looking iced lake. Obviously they are going to have lake/river winter diving, just like in Tremblant, right? Guess what! Nope. Fail. We park, walk into the lobby. Not bad for spa lobby. I really liked high ceilings. There was a crowd. I don't mind crowds. However this one was way too Jersey, actually I mean South Shore, if you know what I mean. Beefy "situation"-looking dudes, more tattoos than IQ points, crispy-fried-snookie-style-chicks, you get it. First thought - FML. So, we get our keys, towels, and immediately get warned that replacement robe or towel is $5. So don't get them wet. I'M IN A SPA! I'm supposed to be wet! And dry myself with a towel. And hopefully not pay for doing that. We get into the dressing rooms. Guys' one... lacked hand soap. And tissues. Fine. More Jersey Shore. They could totally film one episode at Balnea. Following my friend's advice, I requested a guided tour of the facility (by pressing a button on the wall. Balnea is very high tech.) After waiting for about 15 minutes on Structube-comfortable acid-blue chairs, our guide shows up. Balnea spa facilities include: 2 outside jacuzzis of the same temperature. 2 inside finnish spas (eucaliptus and orange flavors) 1 cold shower 1 cold indoor pool (extremely inaccessible. Due to recent events I'm with a cane now, and there was no way I could get into that pool). I tried. And tried. Whatev. 1 outdoor semi-cold pool. 1 turkish bath Besides spa, you will also find 5-6 resting areas that totally look like Structube or Ikea showrooms. In general the whole place seems to be designed by one of those super cheesy Montreal night-club designers. Acid-blue chairs are next to doors, covered with white leather puffy stuff (like in mental institutions), log-looking coffee tables are right next to BRIGHT-red 1960 leather office chairs, basically no coherent taste what-so-ever. Outright posh, screaming colors everywhere that do not give you that relaxed blissful state of mind, that you look so much for at a spa retreat. There are 2 extra facilities outside. Fake-cave-like outside semi-warm sauna where you will chill at about 20c after walking for 50 yards at -30c. Fine. Next to it there is... wait for it... yes FAKE IGLOO WITH A FAKE FIREPLACE AND FAKE BLANKETS!!! Yes you heard me. Igloo is made of an igloo-shaped red tent. Inside, there is an ethanol fireplace that doesn't give that warmth, sound, or even smell of a real fireplace. Around the fake fireplace you will find bunch of day beds with beanbags on top of them. And acrylic fur blankets. Oh yes. Those. Anyways, fake igloo was a major fail. Don't go. By the time we tried all of this splendor, it was time for food. I did not have any massage booked (this was a last minute decision), so can't comment on their massage quality. We get to the cafeteria. They have about 12 choices of food and 3 choices of wine. Will start with wine. $5.50 Mission Hill Pinot Blanc was not bad for a dep wine. So was my friend's chardonnay. A little bit incongruent with an upscale spa setting. H-anyways. Food: I asked what is the server's top choice. Puzzled with wide selection of 3 choices, he suggested a chicken and apples sandwich with cream of spinach soup for me, as it was the thing that all guys ordered. My companion got some thai shrimp soup. Food took some time to prepare. After about 20 minutes, it was graciously delivered to us on Ikea trays. Very good presentation. Food was pretty much Presse Cafe level. Don't think they prepare it onsite. Conclusion - don't go to Balnea for gourmet experiences. There is an A&W around the corner, just in case you arrive or leave hungry. Summary: Good: not far from Montreal, awesome views onto the lake, potentially awesome sun bathing in summer, cheap wine, friendly staff, A&W around the corner Bad: not enough spa facilities, tacky design, Jersey Shore crowd, mediocre food, no jumping in the lake, no snow bathing... PS. Turkish steam bath had no steam. We spent good 20 minutes looking for a steam release button, remote control, some turks to make some steam. None of that was present. read more

This is the best spa I've ever been to! We spent the day here after a ski weekend at Bromont. We arrived a few hours before our massage appointments and spent time in the many outdoor hot pools followed by the cold dip. We loved the Moroccan inspired lounge for a quick snooze. Our favorite part was the yurt with the beds, furs and fireplace. Our massages were great, the therapists incorporated some unique stretching into our massage which we really appreciated after a long weekend of skiing. We had lunch at the restaurant which was also excellent, I had edamame and a cheese plate and my partner had the pork sandwich. I was worried there wouldn't be much to do at Balnea in the winter months but I was very pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to go back in the summer and take advantage of the lake and walking trails. Thanks Balnea! read more

This spa is seriously like a relaxing-heaven-getaway-paradise. I did some research on spas in eastern townships, and stumbled upon Balnea. I looked at the google images and I was totally sold. As soon as I started my spa experience, I wasreally shocked at how huge this spa is and how many "activities" or experiences it had to offer. I took my time and explored every part of the spa I could. I'll just discuss my favorite areas, otherwise this review will get too long... There was a aquarium watching lounge area with 2 fish tanks, and one of my absolute favorites was the Moroccan lantern experience. It was basically an area with a bunch of nooks and crannies where you can lounge and rest in. You had to pick a lantern (fake of course) and bring it to your little rest area. A niceeee soft blanket was sitting right on the mat for me. How convenient! There were magazines too to read and all. Next, was my boyfriend's pick which was the floating rafts by the lake. They were attached to the deck with a rope and all you had to do was push off and relax on the raft while it floats away. You can of course always come back to shore but you have to "pedal" yourself slowly but surely towards the deck. It was a cool experience. I highly recommend the rafts. There was also a hot bath with a fake cave or grotto and I sat underneath it for awhile. This spa also has a restaurant (full menu) and a lounge area where you can order coffee/wine/tea etc. Honestly, this is a real getaway spa. You will definitely feel like pampered when you visit this place. A must visit and worth the drive! read more

Three of us went up from Burlington. We made it a girl's getaway weekend. Balnea is the largest spa I have seen. There are the main buildings at the top of the mountain, hot pools on the way down, beds to relax on and enjoy the view, and the lake at the bottom. The view is beautiful. The lake has a dock with lounging chairs and several large floating mattresses tied to it. You can unhook the mattresses and float away, or swim out to one of the two swimming platforms. There are woods with paths to walk in and so many nooks and crannies to relax in! Silence is encouraged. We all had massages and we were all very happy with them. The restaurant had beautifully prepared food that was amazing! The chef was cooking oyster mushrooms on the outdoor grill, with a heavenly quail sauce. The food we tried was mildly seasoned, so all the flavours came through to create a wonderful dish. The staff is very friendly and helpful and we were never bored. We plan to go again! read more

The restaurant menu was only French, which is very unfriendly from a tourist perspective. The staff was unable to clearly interpret so that only one of our four meals was what we expected, kind of. The hot and cold tubs were nice. But showering with no extra towels easily available is a problem. The lake doesn't open until noon, which was very frustrating. They have paddle board exercise classes but you can't use a paddle board for anything else. It would be very nice to paddle around the lake. The staff was friendly. read more

Really incredible spot in rural Quebec. First off was a very professional, gentle massage. Then we started with a few steam sauna, cold bath, regular sauna, cold baths. Then to a hot tub for a relaxing time. Then strolled down by the lake to listen to and watch the fish jump and the bird life in the area. Back up to the restaurant for a very affordable, delicious gourmet meal (trout). Highly recommend this spot read more

I went to this spa on one of my two days off last Sunday, & let me tell you about my experience. Mind you, I work in a high class hotel back home (I live three hours away from this particular spa). We arrived around 2pm, considering we lived far enough, we had an early breakfast. We check in, & right off the bat they don't make you pay right away. For my part, I prefer paying before, but I know that the point of doing this is for the clients to spend, spend, spend & then end up with a 500$ bill at the end of the day. Anyway, some prefer ''enjoying'' the experience before paying, but I rather pay before. We got are towels, bracelets, robes & metal water bottles, & they told us that we could change are towels at any given time but to change the robe there would be a fee of 5$ dollars. They also mentionned that we could not bring are phones on the site or that we could barely talk. I do understand that this is a relaxing place & that it's not okay to take picture of other people without there consent, but this was a beautiful place & it deserved to be showing & shared. I also understand that no one should be yelling considering that it is a spa, but we couldn't talk!! We were a group of four girls, & not knowing this before going there, we got told a couple of time to pretty much ''shut it''. Only one of the tubs was a whispering tub, all the other one were silent, even the lake. To be honest I didn't feel relaxed, I felt stressed because I practicaly had police up my behind. I think they should create more variaty by having some where you can whisper, some where you need to be silent & some (at least the lake) where you can talk freely, but not loud of scream of course, it's still a spa. So we went & put are bathing suits on & went outside where most of the tubs were. I decided I want to go in the lake with one of my friends & my two other friends decided to go somewhere else. The sun was now hidden by the clouds (not there fault but still disapointing considering the price (i'm a student & so was one of my friends & to considered that we weren't there for hours only half an hour)). After about 20 minutes, a storm started, once again, I know that they don't control the weather. Therefor, they do control the way that they act. I was in the lake when the rain started pouring. So you guessed it, my robe & towel were soked buy the time I got out of the pool. I could get a towel (it toke about 15 minutes because we had to go in a little hutt & we couldn't go up the hill to got to either the restaurant & the reception to get one, but we still eventually got one). We asked if me & my friend could get a free robe, because it was soked from the rain (once again I know that they don't control the weather but in my eyes, I was a simple demand. They asked, but the anwser was no & we were told to put it in the dry sauna & that it would dry in minutes... It did not dry at all... but the scenery was breathtaking. Moving on to when we could get out of the hutt to go back Inside but we could not stay outside of go in the baths/tubs (practically all of them (tubs) are outside). So we all went up the hill to go Inside. There was no electricity so we didn't really know what to do. We found a kind of morrocain calming room but people where laying & sleeping everywhere so it was kinda creeping me out so I walked out. Are two older friends were going for a massage, but me & my other friend weren't. So if the storm didn't eventually stop, we were kinda stuck. We asked the reception what to do considering we weren't there for long before all of this happened. Thet said we could get a discount if we left before 6 o'clock (6 was the time they estimated for when the electricity was going to return), but are friends could still have there massage & because we came from far, we decided to stay. We wanted snack because we had an early breakfast. The restaurant had bags of peanuts for sale. When we entered the restaurant door, the server told us: Oh, I hope you guys aren't here for food (it's a restaurant). We said that we didn't want a meal, just a snack. She said that that would not be possible because she could not make any charges because the power was down. We then said can we al least have something to drink then? She also said she couldn't because she couldn't put it in the system. I then saw with the corner of my eye, two couples with some sort of smoothie (they we're not sitting with each other which means it was two different orders). I ask why they could have something & why we couldn't. The server said: of they haven't eaten all day. So I said that we haven't eaten either but it was still a no go (I know we ate but to be honest in that moment I forgot). I told her that it wasn't fair to say yes to some people & no to other. You can't do that. It's either yes for everyone or no for everyone. Me & one of my friends complained at the reception. They said they had no power over the incident. read more

It was the worst spa experience I ever had. We were not shown around the facility and had to asked around where everything was. We were the first to enter the restaurant during the busy lunch hour. But we had to wait for over an hour before we can get our food. It was very frustrating to see other tables get their order first when we were there first. Then, there was a screw up with our massage room. The massage session itself was alright. Only after we complain during our massage session to the therapist was anything done. Then, when we went for the thermal bath, we left our bathrobe on the lounge chairs and was told we can`t reserve the lounge chairs by leaving our towel there. My question is, where do you want us to put our bathrobe and towel??? It is very disappointing to visit a spa that is well known and have an awful experience. Will definitely not come back! read more

Poor doesn't even begin to describe it. I made a massage appointment over the phone. The person who took my reservation said I could come earlier to use the facilities. I asked if this was included and she said yes. When I went to check out, there was an additional charge for using the premises. I tried to raise this with both the manager and the director but to no avail. All either of them did was argue with me and say that it was written on their site. I made my reservations on the phone, not over the internet. When I checked in, there was no mention of additional charges for using the premises. Very poor customer service, or rather lack there of. Spend your money elsewhere, where you are treated as a customer. Also, when I checked in, I inquired as to whether there was any place to stay nearby. The girl at the reception gave me a name but could not tell me if it was an inn, a hotel, etc. When I inquired as to what exactly this was, all she did was giggle. Inexperienced staff every where. It took about 1/2 hour to receive 2 additional pieces of bread in the restaurant for the cheese plate that was ordered. If you are considering trying Balnea, do yourself a favour, DON'T GO! read more

No reservations on their website for the thermal experience so we just drove there, coming from vermont. When we got there the receptionist said that there is no space available and that there is 12 people wait in front of us. We asked if they have suggestions what to do or how long it will take to wait they didn't give us an answer. Said at least an hour. We decided to go for a hike. We found a lake and waned to get into the water the staff told us we don't have wristbands that's why we can't go there. Another disappointment. The lake water is very clean. Another visitors with our fate were swimming in he lake further away form staff regardless hey we're told not to. So we jumped into the lake too. We decided to leave into the city of Bromont instead because of not very helpful staff and disappointing wait time. The hike was nice and The baths look cool on website. However I don't think we will be coming back. We wanted to come to relax on Sunday not hike for an hour more read more
