Hiring Captain Silly Bones for my four-year-old's birthday party was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I also based my decision off of his many glowing reviews on Yelp so I hope I can help others make a similar decision. He was professional, kind to my boys, incredibly talented and kept his word about keeping the kids absolutely glued to his performance the entire time. He doesn't just show up in character, he brings tattoos, a speaker for dancing, tons of goodies for a scavenger hunt (which turns into goodie bags for the kids), magic tricks and more. Thank you Captain Silly! He was amazing from the start. So warm with my boys asking a million questions while he was trying to setup everything. The endless amounts of self serve tattoo sessions kept the kids so busy and excited. Everyone had sleeves on each limb. Lol. The story telling, magic, and limbo was amazing. Pirate Silly Bones was wonderful. He was easy to plan with. He showed up early to set up. He knew my kids names and was wonderful with all the kids. He brought countless tattoos, treasures and candy. He also provided goody bags. He created a schedule and kept the kids entertained the entire time-including a magic show and limbo contest. What can I say about Captain Silly Bones!! Our daughter who turned six this weekend saw Silly at a show last year and had not forgotten him since. When we asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, she immediately said she wanted to have him there! We had a small party and I know it's much harder to keep fewer kids entertained for so long. My son is 5 and we had kids even as young as 2 and 3. He is highly entertaining and high energy, but had total control in a very cool way that the kids responded to. Boy, girl, young, old (babies to adolescents) all felt involved and had fun. Our son is very reserved and NEVER likes to be the center of attention or participate. I clued the captain in ahead of time, and he was perfect. I signed up to Yelp to review Captian Sillybones, since we hired him based on the yelp reviews we read, I figured we should give back to the community. He came to our house in NW DC, arriving 20 minutes early (our nanny saw his car) but not coming in until the time we had agreed upon, which was helpful since we were finishing up organizing the house. He was amazing--super friendly and helpful. We had him for our daughter's 6 year old birthday party, with about 18 of her classmates + 5 siblings, and he managed extraordinarily well. WE had planned to serve the parents a glass of wine in another room so they could talk, but everyone wanted to see the show. he started with tattoos which kept arriving kids entertained, then started the show with a fifteen minute story that was pretty funny, then moved on to magic, then limbo contest, then had the kids "make" their own goody bags. My daughter is adventurous and had asked in advance if Captain Sillybones could saw her in half; he didn't have the equipment, but he did bring an arm guillotine. That trick, which involved chopping up a potato, carrots, but somehow not harming my daughters arm, enthralled even the adults. One other parent said "he was the best child performer at a birthday party he had ever seen" and my four year old daughter (whose birthday is in a week) said "Dad can I have captian sillybones also" (we've already booked a musician, so she'll have to wait 'till next year). I booked Marc for my son's fifth birthday based on the Yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. My son is shy, so he was really happy that Captain Silly Bones was going to arrive early to get to know him. He was instantly comfortable in Captain Silly Bones' company and loved the arrival gift. Marc did his set up quickly and didn't need anything from the hosts. I was worried my apartment wouldn't be big enough, but he only needed one room - enough space for the kids (and parents) to sit and for his table. The show was fun for all - the 5-year olds, a few younger siblings and the parents. He made my son feel very special, asking his opinion, inviting him to 'do' the tricks etc. During the show, the children filled their own goodie bags. During food and cake, he facilitated where needed but also quietly packed up. A few days later, my son received a birthday card from Captain Silly Bones and a few more little gifts. I was so happy it went well. Other parents and children enjoyed it and I think he got a few new commissions from this event. Most of all, my son 'loved it sooooo much' and I think it increased his standing in class at a new school! Anything I'd like done different? The only thing was that we agreed a price by email but there was no deposit and I ended up paying the fee while the guests were still milling around. I would prefer a system of paying a portion up front, and the rest within 3 days of service, so as not to be getting my check book out during the party. But this in no way detracts from the 5 stars. read more

Our party this weekend was a great success thanks to Captain Silly Bones. Marc made the whole process simple from start to finish. This was a great relief to me, having worked with entertainers in the past that were less than professional. When he says he's cultivated best practices from years of experience, he means it. From the beginning he breaks the ice with the birthday boy/girl with a special present. He is then thoroughly engaging the entire 90 minute - as well as facilitating the remaining 30 minutes for pizza and cake. I had many parents comment on how long the performance was and how much fun their kids had. For reference, we had approx 36 kids in attendance for my son turning 6 and daughter turning 3.
