I seem to find myself in the Kentlands area a lot lately but my 1st time visiting the Art Barn. My Cousin was debuting his new Independent Film and, of course, I am going to support. The building used to be a stable that has beautifully renovated. It definitely has farmhouse touches with the wood, faux pocket doors and rustic touches. There is a reception area on the main floor where there was coffee(I love it already!) and refreshments. There is accessible parking out front and an elevator for those who may need it to get to the theater upstairs. The theater is small and intimate with 99 seats. I wanted to take pictures of the theater, but they were doing panel discussions and I just didn't feel comfortable snapping pictures during such a thoughtful process. As I understand it, they also provide services to the community around art in the form Of classes, discussions and even camps for the kids. So yes. . . Gaithersburg has begun to grow on me even though I live in Southern Maryland. I live over an hour away but I didn't mind the drive. I would definitely come back again. read more

I found this Art gallery Art Barn on the AARP App. AARP is not just for seniors. It's located in an affluent neighborhood of Kentlands. It is very quaint, and they provide classes and events for families and school-age kids but be prepared to pay a hefty fee for events of your choosing. For example, I wanted to sign up for the ceramics class and it's $176 for residents and $200 for non-residents, no judgment it's probably well worth it when you think of the supplies, etc., They're currently featuring new local artists and they are some talented artists The staff is friendly. Oh, be prepared to wear a mask when you attend their events because it's a very close quarter. Thanks, guys you were very welcoming and nice to me. I looking forward to being back on 2/26 to attend the reception to meet all the artists who are showcasing their artwork now. read more

What a cool venue. I saw a benefit concert (for Haiti) a few summers ago and I really enjoyed this venue. The stage is small and there's not a lot of seating but I liked the fact that it felt really intimate. It's like Gaithersburg's best kept little secret. I'd definitely come back. The Kentlands Arts Barn belongs to the city of Gaithersburg and reflects the neighborhood in which it sits: Kentlands. It's a converted barn for the planned Kentlands area, includes a stage that several community theaters make use of and artists-in-residence, art exhibits, and performing arts classes. I've seen a variety of productions in the theatre; most of them were pretty high quality with good acting. The theater is upstairs but they do have an elevator. Seating is quite close to the stage and the seating is ramped, so all seats have excellent viewing. At one time, one of the artists-in-residence was a quiltmaker named Lauren Kingsland. I needed a way to get rid of my kids t-shirts and noticed she offered quilts made from the t-shirts. I ordered several. They are works of art and almost too precious to use. Parking is nearby and there's a lot large enough to accommodate a full theatre. read more

On Saturday evening, my fiancé and I saw Agatha Christie's The Hollow play. In comparison to other play's we've attended at the Arts Barn, we were disappointed in this one. We know it's only a community theater production, but we still expected basic quality performances and a decent production for the price. Unfortunately, this time it was not. The performers routinely went in and out of their accents, and some of the main performers over-acted so much that it became difficult for us to watch. That is not to say the other Kentland's Community Players productions were as disappointing. We thoroughly enjoyed Shakespeare In Love last year!! We are not at all soured on Gaithersburg Arts Barn productions because of this one show. We'll be back. read more

The Arts Barn in the Kentlands is a cozy and warm performing arts center. The theater stage is close and intimate without being stuffy, uncomfortable or amateurish, albeit it's a small community playhouse. Oh, the parking is plentiful and very handicap friendly, and the Barn is equipped with an elevator. The sound, lighting and stage design were as good as any well heeled regional venue, and the local actors are polished and believable. The patrons were diverse and attentive. For $13 admin and $4 for a glass of wine, it's a stimulating alternative to dropping $25 per head at the Regal or AMC theaters. read more

This old barn has been remodeled and reborn as a state-of-the-art venue, with a 99-seat theater upstairs that hosts plays, concerts and performing arts classes for all ages. Downstairs near the gift shop are several artist's studios that double as studio arts classrooms. You can visit the City of Gaithersburg's Web site for schedules and to buy tickets for events. They also rent out the theater - if you can find an open date. The neighborhood looks a little like a set from Stepford Wives, but we saw a fun show here with the kids, so I'm inclined to overlook that.

On Saturday, 3/9/19, I went to the Gaithersburg Arts Barn to see a musical with a friend. It was our first time there, and I'm always excited to support a local business. When I bought the tickets I knew it was first come first serve. It's a small venue, and thus assumed that no matter where I sat in the room my view would not be an issue. We arrived just as the show was beginning and were sat in the last row. I'm fairly short so there are always people taller than me who sit in front of me. I've been to many theaters before, including community theaters, and have never had an issue prior. Needless to say, I sat for over two hours with barely a view in sight. I wondered why I was having such a hard time seeing anything when it seemed as if all of the rows were elevated. As it turns out, the last row in the theater is not. Had I known, I could have made adjustments like arriving early or just not buying the tickets at all. In an effort to not be disruptive, I got up during intermission to speak with someone. I spoke with the theater program director. She was very unapologetic and only offered to sit my friend and me in two separate seats not located near each other. Of course, I refused this offer. As is, nights out are rare and didn't want to be separated from a friend I don't get to see all that often. We asked if our tickets could refunded and said that we would leave. We were denied. This situation could have been handled much different. Luckily the tickets weren't all that expensive but that's not the point. She could have been much kinder and perhaps allowed us to return a different night. Anyhow, avoid this place at all costs unless you like to deal with rude customer service and pay got something you don't get. There's always interesting art hanging in the Gallery as you walk in, and the little theater upstairs is a GREAT venue to see plays, musicals, concerts of all kinds (singer/songwriter, classical, jazz); the place is always hopping! Lots of great relationships with area theater companies, schools and organizations - a surprising little gem. (Owned by the City of Gaithersburg; together with the Kentlands Mansion, known as "Arts on the Green.") read more

Living in the DC area, there are a number of opportunities to attend the best in theater, arts, music and other cultural activities. One of the hidden golden gems is the Kentland's Arts Barn that is home to a small but comfortable and acoustically sound theater. I've attended musicals, comedy, plays and concerts of all sorts in this lovely neighborhood facility and have never been disappointed. The city is expanding its cultural offerings here and at other associated facilities that are sure to entertain and delight. What a bunch of silly drama queens. From the cashier selling the tickets (who delayed us in the first place) to the ticket-taker (who then untruthfully scolded us about punctuality) to the poorly rehearsed actors, rarely have I ever seen such pretension, not to mention paying handsomely for the privilege. We walked out before the end of the poorly-acted first play. read more
