Very Disappointed - Lack of Transparency Regarding Dental Financing…read more I am extremely disappointed with my experience at First Street Dental Group in Simi Valley, particularly with how their financing program was presented and explained to me. In September 2024, I received dental treatment totaling $12,000. At the time, I was offered what I understood to be 24 months of interest-free financing. I trusted the staff and believed I could make my required monthly payments during those 24 months without interest, and that any remaining balance afterward would only begin accruing interest from that point forward. Unfortunately, I later discovered that this was actually a deferred-interest financing program. If the entire balance was not paid off before the promotional period expired, substantial interest could be charged retroactively. This very important financial consequence was never clearly explained to me by the staff when the financing was offered. I enrolled in automatic payments and consistently made my required monthly payments, believing I was following the agreed payment arrangement. After two years, I was shocked to discover that I still owed over $10,000, and my October 2026 statement showed more than $7,000 in interest charges for the year. What disappoints me most is not simply the financial burden, but the lack of clear communication and transparency. I trusted this dental office to explain such a significant financial commitment before asking me to agree to it. I understand that patients are responsible for reviewing financial agreements. However, I also believe that a professional dental office has an ethical responsibility to clearly explain the potential financial consequences of the financing options it offers. Patients should never walk away believing they are receiving interest-free financing without fully understanding the possibility of thousands of dollars in retroactive interest charges. My experience has seriously damaged my trust in this dental office. I hope management takes this concern seriously and makes greater efforts to ensure that future patients fully understand the financing terms before committing to expensive dental treatment. I am sharing my experience so that other patients can ask the right questions and avoid facing a similar situation. Very disappointing experience. I had a very disappointing experience at Arroyo Dental and will not be returning…read more I came in to have crowns replaced after previous dental work had failed. Before treatment, I explained that I had been experiencing tenderness in my gums on the right side for over eight months and was concerned that replacing the crowns wouldn't solve the problem. I was repeatedly assured the pain would go away and was told it was likely from chewing on that side. When I continued expressing my concerns, the dentist dismissed me by saying I was "a sensitive woman." The pain never improved. I later saw two different periodontists, both of whom diagnosed me as needing a crown lengthening procedure and confirmed there was a legitimate reason for my pain. While saving for that procedure, I continued treatment on the left side, where I had a root canal and post buildup completed. When I returned for a temporary crown, the dentist refused to continue treatment until I completed the crown lengthening on the opposite side. I explained that I fully intended to have the procedure but simply needed time to save for it. Despite having reports from two periodontists explaining the cause of my pain, he continued to question it, telling me, "In my 30 years of practice, I've never seen anything like this." He even suggested I would probably start complaining about the left side as well, even though I had no pain there. When I tried to explain my situation, he repeatedly interrupted me, told me to "calm down," and refused to listen to what I was saying. At that point, I decided to leave and seek treatment elsewhere. To make matters worse, when I called afterward to request my dental records, the front desk employee told me he would email them to me, said "alrighty," and abruptly hung up on me. Being dismissed as "a sensitive woman" instead of having my concerns taken seriously was one of the most upsetting parts of this experience. My pain was ultimately validated by two independent periodontists. Every patient deserves to have their symptoms taken seriously and to be treated with respect--not dismissed with comments like that. I cannot recommend Arroyo Dental based on my experience.

But don't discount a pandemic, while providing health services, with your hands in my facehole. I found a new dentist immediately, and followed the given procedure to transfer my records - but that took months, including two letters and several phone calls. I postponed writing this review to make sure there was nothing else needed from them before I burned this bridge. But I'll never go back, I'm embarrassed that I continued going for as long as I did, and I'm somewhat comforted to see that others here have had similar experiences and that it was, as I've come to realize, terrible service - not me.

She repeatedly said, "we'll take good care of you here." I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Setareh the same day, within minutes of me walking through the door. The wait was short lived, with only a few minutes in the waiting room before I was taken into a room to get x-rays. Kimberly was gentle and kind. She always let me know what every different technique of x-rays were for and what was next. Within minutes, I was introduced to Dr. Satareh, who I realized was my dentist, many years prior. She immediately began by explaining her findings from my x-rays and what the most important issues were and which ones to take care of first and why. Through the steps of the procedures, she always asked if I was comfortable and she asked if I was experiencing any pain. She was concerned with my comfort, always. She was gentle and thorough, explaining the procedures and what she would be doing next. I didn't catch Dr Satereh's assistant's name, but she was as professional as any other doctor. She was concerned about my comfort and took care of any problem I had right-a-way. Before I knew it, it was over. I was surprised how smoothly everything went. What is also great about this dental office is the dentists, endodontist and periodontists are all at this one location so, you don't have to travel from one place to the next for these services.

My normal dentist wouldn't get me in for months, and they squeezed me in the very next day. The staff is immensely friendly and accommodating, and despite the fact that we're all *actually human*, you can tell that Dr. Waxler genuinely wants to help people. As someone with a very complex and advanced dental disorder who has been done wrong by many dentists in the past, I require a very high level of attentiveness to my case -- and when I raised my concerns, Dr. Waxler truly listened. The crown they did for me on such short notice is genuinely beautiful, high-quality work, and I was pleasantly surprised. I went on to have about five more fillings done and had a very positive experience with those too. They are fast and attentive; I feel like it's one of the best dental offices I have found in years. Unethical Practice…read more My son was the second patient scheduled that morning. While we were waiting, a staff member came into the lobby and said another patient wanted to speak with her father. At first, I thought the patient simply wanted reassurance or support before her procedure. A short time later, I was called back because my son supposedly "wanted to speak to me." However, when I entered the room, my son did not say a word. He was already connected to an IV and oxygen. While he was in that vulnerable position, the staff member told me they needed to add an additional procedure costing $750 that was not covered by insurance, along with another $1,500 to remove an additional tooth. What concerned me even more was that I watched three other families appear to go through a very similar experience. Parents were called into the treatment area after their children were already prepared for surgery and were then presented with expensive additional procedures. In my opinion, this creates an extremely high-pressure and emotionally manipulative situation. Parents should not feel cornered into making major financial decisions while standing in front of their frightened child who is already hooked up to an IV. We were also told that without the additional procedure, my son might not heal properly. I have had four other children, both minors and adults, undergo tooth extractions, and all of them healed without this added procedure. While I was in the office, I also spoke with an older woman who told me she had filed three grievances against this dental group through her insurance company. I cannot speak to anyone else's complete medical circumstances, but I can speak to what I personally witnessed. The way these additional charges were presented felt unacceptable and unethical. Treatment options, costs, insurance coverage, and alternatives should be discussed clearly before the patient is prepared for surgery--not after the IV and oxygen are already in place. Parents should ask for all recommended procedures and costs in writing before the appointment and should not be afraid to request a second opinion.
