I've spent the majority of my life…read moreseverely overweight, and though I managed to lose a good portion of it by the time I hit my early 30's, I still wasn't moving my body enough. As a result, I had a lot of general soreness and a limited range of motion in my knees, shoulders, and lower back, which led me to seek help with one of Lifestyle Medicine's physical therapists (PT), Morgan, at their Renton location in May of 2023. Morgan was amazing from day one. She is a skilled and knowledgeable care provider that makes a genuine effort to listen to her patients and their needs. She helped me build confidence in my abilities, motivated me, and inspired me to keep moving forward. After a few months, as I started to improve, I integrated into their Bridge program, which added support from an exercise specialist (ES) on top of my PT appointments. As the name would suggest, this program was the bridge that allowed me to graduate out of PT while still having regular support with exercise, as well as an accountability partner. It meant that when I didn't need PT anymore, I didn't stop making progress - I still had the support I needed. I met with an ES twice a week who took me through a variety of workouts, helping me build strength and showing me how to add exercise into my week in a way that worked for me. After Bridge, In December of 2023, I moved into their Lifestyle 365 program. Admittedly, I was most nervous about this transition. In this program, you're still meeting with an ES, but now they're building workouts for you to do on your own time. I was nervous about, what felt like, losing my accountability partner - about whether I'd still keep showing up if I knew there wasn't someone there waiting for me to arrive. In the end, what it's actually done is give me a lot more flexibility, while still having a support system to lean on when I need it. This process, moving between each program based on where I was at in my journey, has taught me how to love moving my body for the first time in my 35 years of life. I no longer drag my feet or have to spend time convincing myself to go to the gym - it's a part of my routine that I've learned to enjoy. Overall, there are a lot of things that set this place apart; it is not your typical gym experience. Anyone who has lived their life in a bigger body knows the hesitations that can come with going to the gym or doing any sort of physical activity in a public space; the fear of judgement, the cruelty people can carelessly dole out, and the shame of feeling like you don't belong. And although I was sitting with all those fears, I've never had those experiences at Lifestyle Medicine. Each person you encounter is not just someone who is passionate about health and fitness - they're specialized healthcare professionals who truly want to help you find the right solution for your specific health needs. They listen, they care, and they're excellent at what they do. I'll also note that one of my biggest hesitations about working with an ES in these programs was that the majority of the current care providers in this role are young, active, and male - a demographic that does not always inspire comfort for younger women in bigger bodies seeking support in the fitness realm. And though I work with Graham out of their Maple Valley clinic, I've had an opportunity to meet each of the specialists at their three locations and they're all genuinely wonderful people that help you find the things that work for you, encourage you along the way, and make you part of a community that inspires hope. I'm genuinely not sure I'll ever stop being grateful for how Morgan, Graham, and the Lifestyle 365 program have changed my life. It's been over 8 months of consistency and I've never felt better, more capable, or more excited about the future of my health and well-being. I had a wrist injury and thought to just shake it off and it was like 4 months and no signs of letting go. I have gone 3 times and I have felt hugeeeee progress with the exercises, warm ups, proper ways of strengthening, conditioning, an injured part. They don't bore you so having conversations at the same time healing has been an awesome experience for me. Close to home, great care, hospitality is more than asked for which is awesome, 10/10 to recommend.

This place was awesome...until it wasn't…read more My experience there with staff and most massage therapists have been amazing. The owner, Teresa Fromm, however, is a different story. I switched insurances at the end of July and had a service every day for like 10 days to utilize my benefits. For years I've used my Navia/Flex Spending account to pay my copay. Early September she addresses me loudly from the front desk about how I owe $60 in copays. When I questioned how she stated it was because her staff hadn't run my card so 4 copays went unpaid. I explained my frustration with that because they had always ran my card and that now, the Navia card was turned off. She took no responsibility for her staff and kept saying "well you still need to pay it" as if I said I wouldn't. I was just expressing frustration about her staffs unfortunate bad timing when it came to not doing their job. At one point I said "being in between jobs, unexpected bills are a hardship" to which she loudly said "IT'S ONLY $60". It was embarrassing. When I told her that she was very unprofessional, she said "talking to you is like talking to a trash can" and walked into her office. She then came out and said "FINE I'LL JUST WRITE IT OFF" which again, was embarrassing. I'm not broke. I just wanted some accountability. I was shook. I also tried to be kind and assume she had a bad day. I kept my other appointments, knowing that I rarely had to see her. I like the therapists there but clients are supposed to get 50 minutes of massage but are constantly shorted by their lack of time between clients. It's another frustration there. Then, I came in yesterday and they brought me to a room with a therapist I don't like. I immediately saw this person (who's head was down as they were making the bed) and stepped back from the doorway and said "no" because this wasn't the first time they've tried to put me with that person. It's also not who they told me I would be with when I made the appt. That therapist also never saw me. I ended up seeing someone else for treatment. Afterward my appt., Teresa brought me into her office and IMMEDIATELY yelled at me telling me I was "rude to the therapist" (the first one, whom I never interacted with) and "fired me as a client". I will be filing formal complaints about her through the right channels. In the course of the short interaction she said "there are 5 therapists that won't work with you here!" News to me, especially since I see the same people repeatedly. Seems if I was such a problematic client, a conversation should have been had a LONG time ago. I also typically see the same people over and over so...I knew she wasn't being honest. I believe that she's just been waiting since the money situation to come for me. I have every right not to be forced to get a massage by someone I do not like. Teresa is incredibly unprofessional for expecting me to just shut up and accept it. I know her staff apologized to me for the outburst about the money...it was cringe to hear someones staff have to be embarrassed for their boss. That said... Many of the therapists are great there but I would avoid putting money in this woman's pocket. To be demeaning and hurtful to clients is never ok and as the owner she should be setting the example for professionalism. Instead she's rude, loudly embarrassing and unprofessional. Go somewhere else if you can.

After I was done changing and getting on the table, the massage therapist came back in and casually said that while in the break room he was talking to the other massage therapists and they said they all felt bad that he had to do a prenatal massage and that "they hate when they have to give prenatal massages". For the massage I needed to lay on my side as expected because of pregnancy. And while it was a comfortable position, he only massaged half of my body. Never turned to the other side and he said this is the way prenatal massages are done. I didn't really realize how bad the experience was until I told my doctor and saw how shocked she was. Thankfully she won't be referring to this location anymore. If you're not pregnant I'm sure this place is great. But if you're pregnant I highly recommend finding a different place.

They seem to be able to accommodate appointments in a timely manner as well- you don't have to wait weeks to be seen. The staff here seem friendly and communicative upon phone conversations and first visit with my partner after his recent accident.
