Earlier in the day there was a pop up candy store from a local store Quincy's and coffee as well. I went closer to closing but they were still offering some nice candy selection by the checkout. There is adult fiction, YA, and children's books as well. A very bustling children's area. I didn't take any pictures because that children's area was busy with several children and I didn't want to take a picture of someone else child but it seemed like they all loved it! I could see taking your child here for a nice book selection night! However should children with sticky candy hands be touching you and rubbing past you bother you it might not be your cup of tea! Might be best to visit when school is in session if that rings true for you. In terms of selections the owner herself walked me around the store and explained each section with her recommendations based on what I liked. I personally like thrillers so she suggested a few with a fantasy twist on one so I'm excited to try it. Unexpectedly I ran into my neighbor too and she loves romance novels but has a hard time finding new ones and said for herself she even found something new to read. The owner said she's going to also try and feature some local authors so I'll be back in hopes to try and snag a local author book because that would be exciting to try. Pricing wise I don't mind paying a little bit more to support local but some of the selections could be found cheaper by online retailers which is a bummer. I would love to see gently used book swaps from titles bought here or even the start of a book club I would join! I do hope they have more pop up workshops because I saw they also had a floral arrangement pop up that I missed but that would be a fun event to attend as well! I would recommend being patient with parking though as the lot is a shared one and is veryyyyy tight on spaces. Or even parking up more on Main Street via street parking and then walking down . I also wish there was more seating to sit and enjoy reading the books I purchased, not sure if this was just because the tables had been rearranged for the floral demo but maybe even two bistro tables out front! Also on their instagram everyone keeps posting nice pictures of what seems like a deck with comfy chairs but the back area was blocked off and you couldn't get to it, hoping to come back and try again!

There was 15 pieces all together, and it was cheap, only $1.50. Also looked at the candy, and was happy to find some Harry Potter candy there- like chocolate frogs and the bertie bott beans. They had lots of candy, but i didn't purchase any. Glad to find them tho as a Harry Potter Fan. The staff is very friendly and more than willing to assist. During the short time that we visited, I saw a walking tour explaining the history of the bookstore/area and a few people discussing the topic of the day. I enjoyed perusing old editions of Life magazine and enjoyed the plenty of seating that was available. If you're ever in Ossining, don't hesitate to stop into Hudson Valley Books. The arrangement in the second photo is what we received. I expressed our unhappiness and was told we'd be charged extra for the design we originally wanted. I went back to the owner, Jill, who said she had "misinterpreted the design." They redid it urgently. We still don't love it, and when we asked about the materials used, we were told, "No, the commission covers the design, sourcing, and construction time of the finished piece, not a quantity of stems." So we're being charged for the materials from the first arrangement but not getting any of them back. We ended up paying nearly $500 for something Jill misinterpreted. I appreciate that it's an artistic piece that takes time to create, but this experience has been frustrating. It's sad that I can't recommend them, and reviews like this are written to warn buyers.
