I love this place. I was sent here because of a long term / recurring work injury on my hip. I did over 12 weeks of chiropractor vists with little relief. Ping has me up and feeling great. She also helped a lot with my arthritis in my right ankle. Fantastic table side manner, she figures out what's going on and helps. Also I must say Soo relaxing,. I have been seeing Dr. Chao every week since 2012. I have Multiple Sclerosis and with it comes a whole lot of problems. Muscle spasticity, pain, tremors, chronic fatigue, eating and sleeping issues to name a few. Having MS means each day is different for me and at times difficult. Dr. Chao helps me get through it. Pain is reduced, muscles are less tight and as a result I sleep better. I've also managed to reduce the prescription drugs I'm on to help manage some symptoms. I would highly recommend Ping to anyone. She is professional and compassionate and truly cares about her patients and very knowledgeable in all aspects of Chinese medicine. read more

I've been going to acupuncture at Ping Chao since last spring, for back and hip pain. It is amazing and although I was skeptical at first, now wonder why I didn't try this sooner. I have managed to cut down from taking hydrocodone 2-4 times a day (which I took for many years) to a couple of Tylenol a day since starting acupuncture. The sad thing is that insurances still don't recognize acupuncture and if they pay at all, pay very poorly. read more

Dr. Chao is a compassionate healer! She has a wonderful sense of humor and that help put nervousness to ease. Initially I sought her consultation for back problems, asthma and allergies. I was amazed at the immediate results. She also recommended "Winter Illness Summer Treatment" which is a traditional Chinese treatment for illness or disease that worsens during the winter time. If I could this place a negative review I would. I was referred here by a friend because of my constant rear butt and lower back pain. Never tried acupuncture and figured it would never hurt to try. Anywho, called to schedule my appointment and asked if they accepted my insurance and was told yes. They asked me to email them over a copy of my insurance card to verify my insurance. Did so immediately, as I was hoping to get in quickly. A few hours later they called me and said everything looks okay and that I had a $20 copay when I come in. Reminded them that I have dual coverage and my secondary insurance picks up my copay. They said okay. Scheduled my appointment for their first opening, the following Monday. I cut my vacation a day short to be there. So...I show up in today for my appointment, provide them again with my insurance card and ID as requested. They, I'm assuming was Ping Chao, said they needed to collect $110 for me because they are not an in network provider and they don't know what the insurance is going to pay. I then repeated to her my conversation (above) and told her I have 100% in or out of network coverage because my secondary picks whatever my primary does not. She then went on to explain that I told her incorrectly. I replied how did I inform your incorrectly? You, or your office staff, told me I was covered. At this point I was furious because not only am I not going to pay something I don't have to, but now I wasted both her and my time, and I could've still been enjoying the rest of my vacation. I've never had this problem at all...I totally do not appreciate the unprofessionalism nor the lack of respect for a person's time. I had the same issue as another reviewer here - I made an appointment, gave them my insurance information and confirmed that my visit would be covered. I took an hour off of work, and as I was pulling into the parking lot for the scheduled appointment, the receptionist called to tell me that my visit would not be covered. I walked into the office to speak to them in person and they explained that I needed a referral from my PCP to have my visit covered and that I would be charged the full $110 out of pocket fee. The doctor then complained about the amount my insurance pays for acupuncture services - if you don't like it, don't accept the insurance. Don't try to bamboozle me for more money. I was incredibly frustrated and disappointed as I walked out without getting any treatment. I took time and money to come to the appointment only to be failed by incompetent business practices. read more

My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for 2 and a half years and had zero luck....until I saw Dr. Chao! Before going to Dr. Chao I went to a infertility doctor to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant and my tests all came out normal. My husband and I were beyond frustrated and concerned. The doctor told us to keep trying :(. My coworker saw how down I would get because we were having no luck. My coworker kept telling me to see Ping Chao and encouraged me she would be able to help me. I honestly didn't think going to acupuncture was going help me get pregnant. I was very reluctant. Finally I went to see Dr. Chao and she told me things about my body that no one else would know. I was fascinated with how much knowledge she had and kept be hopeful. I listened to her and did the things she wanted me to do such as taking nightly baths, taking herbs twice a day, gave up drinking anything with ice, and the list goes on. Dr. Chao's method of healing the hurting areas of the body are both effective and relieving to the body and soul. I've have had issues with my lower back and have seeked other metods of treatment, however, they haven't been as effective as the acupuncture I've received from Ping Chao's Acupuncture. So here's my story about this amazing place and an amazing doctor. My mom works on the Long Beach port at night and she fell through a hole in the ship's deck and really really screw up her back. She went to a chiropractor for two months and it wasn't working at all. Her friend then suggested she try going to Dr.Ping. After her first treatment she came home and was able to move so much better with less pain. By the end of the month she had no problems whatsoever. Then one day at school my friend came up behind me and kicked me in my butt. She was just playing around and I didn't realize how hard she kicked me until I was sitting in class and I couldn't sit still because my lower back was hurting so bad. After a month of trying to get this pain fixed by the chiropractor my mom took me in to see Ping. She is the most talented doctor ever. She just had me bend over and she felt down my spine and new exactly what was wrong. I had some protruding discs and some nerve damage. After a month or so my back was back to normal. I went from not being able to sit for ten minutes to being able to sit all day and not even feel sore. She told me she didn't need to see me anymore so after a few months of not going I went back to help me with my weight management. It was right before summer and I told her that I was looking for a part time job so I could start making money as I was at the time sixteen. She offered me a job on the spot because her original assistant for the summer was going to Taiwan for the summer. I've been working here part time ever since and it's been a year. Ping is the best doctor and can help you with any problem you have. She is extremely kind and one of the best people I know and one of my best friends ever.
