Kayaking
Lynn R.

Amazing spot for kayaking!! This appeared to be a hidden gem--it wasn't very crowded on a Saturday morning, and it was truly awesome for kayaking. My friend and I came here around 10AM. We had essentially zero kayaking experience, but made it across the lake just fine. The scenery was beautiful, and the lake wasn't rocky at all on our boat. We both agreed we'll come back multiple times. Super fun. There's a $10 entrance fee (per vehicle), and it's $10/hr for boat rentals. There's also hiking trails, picnic tables, and plenty of things to do here. You could really make a full day trip out of it.

This place is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite parks to visit in Maryland. The hikes aren't too difficult and you get to experience some beautiful scenery along the ways. I bring my dog along with me and there's plenty for him to smell along the way. There's also a Nature Center where you can check out some beautiful birds. This would be a great place to have a kids birthday party. There's plenty of benches to set up and there's trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a lake where you can fish and kayak. Once the quarantine is over, I'll definitely be back to do some kayaking and hear more of that beautiful wildlife.

Love this place! I invested in a season pass that's worth it for as often as I go to fish. I also got a small Intex boat with motor/mount from amazon $300 total. I take it there with no issues.

I have not explored the trails on this park but the lake setting is beautiful. The area is well-maintained. I would come here more often if I didn't have to pay the $10.00 entrance fee (per vehicle).

Love it. There are two sides to the park (seperated by the lake) the "developed" side and the "undeveloped" side. The developed side has trails, a 300 acre lake, piers (which you can fish off of), a small (hidden) pond, an awesome Nature Center with live animals and other displays, boat rentals and it's a very dog friendly place, but they have to be on a leash on this side. It also has real bathrooms! Not those horrible spot-a-pots. They have 2 playgrounds, a tennis court and a basketball court. Lots of picnic tables and grills throughout the park. I really enjoy it! The undeveloped side is more my speed, not as many people on the weekends and there is really just trails and the lake. The thing I like about it is how peaceful it is and how you can let your dogs off leash. Of course that comes with some irresponsible owners doing so as well, but there are irresponsible dog owners everywhere. They allow horses on this side, which is cool except for when the horse riders leave the horse crap everywhere. The trails are a little more challenging on this side also. The undeveloped side also doesn't have an entrance fee, which is nice if you are just looking to enjoy nature and don't need all the bells and whistles that the other side has. I hope everyone gets to get out to enjoy the park!

First visit here and it's very nice and clean. We came for the annual church picnic. Plenty of food and fun for everyone. The park has a Nature Visit for the young ones to learn more about the animals. Very interesting and nice. I would recommend this location for family gatherings or social gatherings. Located in Sykesville, Maryland.

Great place to take a stroll with the pups. Take a Baggie to clean up after your pup does its thing.

The pavillion close had a party and the adults were smoking weed and using profanity. Kids were not friendly to little kids. There were several 2/3 yr olds but the kids 10 and older were very wild and knocking them over. There were kids riding bikes on the playground into children. They were old enough to know better and the parents knew better. I saw a boy thrust kick a 4yr lil girl in her back as she was adjusting to get off the bottom of the slide and yelled MOVE to her. Come to find out they were not together. Her Dad was very upset and so dis another Dad see it and was alarmed and said something. I would suggest to go elsewhere with your kids unless you want to box it out with parents or kids. Save the kiddies from being hurt. Its nice but the traffic it brings in isnt a mix.

My daughter loves coming to the playground and frequently asked to go to the new Ravens park as she calls it. The playground has so many fun things for the kids to do. There are also a few pavilions to use for gatherings. There are a few Port A Potty available and full restrooms near the football fields. There is also a walking trail near the pavilions near the baseball fields. There is typically an Ice Cream Truck stationed in the parking lot especially on hot days. Parking is spacious and plentiful. Will definitely return and I love the newly added playground.

Notably, the parking lot requires an advance reservation on peak dates, and this policy has been expanded to cover more dates due to the pandemic lockdown pushing people to spend their days outdoors. The trail is a short loop to the falls. Great Falls this isn't, but it's significant enough to generate a nice spray. A rather upset-looking fish flopped down shallow water as I approached. Upstream of the falls was a challenge. Few fords were viable, perhaps owing to heavy rain, and signs suggesting the area was blocked off were ignored by expeditions looking for better crossings. I made it across the stream and back, but I did get a little wet. The scenery isn't worth a long drive on its own, but paired with the other local park sites, it makes for good viewing, and in particular this space with its parking limitations can't get too crowded.

I have beautiful toddler, and she has a crazy over protective father. So we tend to stay away from crowds, especially bigger kids. So I look on Yelp to see what else was near and I find Long Gate Park. We make the trip over which was maybe 10 minutes away, and when we get there i'm blown away. This place is nice! We park the car (the lot is huge, its actually a park and ride), and head down to the play area. This park is very well kept. No high grass, No trash, Nice equipment. The park has 2 play areas. The first one is huge, and takes up the majority of the play area, and is where most of the kids play. The other is smaller, and off to the side. Perfect for that over protective parent who feels the need to isolate, but all the kids there today looked to be 3 and under. So I let my daughter go where she pleased. There is a pavilion area near the playground with a grill, and a bathroom with water fountain on the opposite side of the grounds. Behind the bathroom are tennis courts, and also a trail to walk or bike. Therw are benches all around the play area, and most of them have canopies above. There is also wall climbing and a basketball court. The main play area has shade from overhead canopies throughout the equipment, and safety rails all over. The park sits on recycled rubber, so no dirt or annoying wood chips. There is also another area of the park that has a baseball field, more pavilions, and an athletic complex. Easily one of the better playgrounds in the area. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

The park was alive with families and their furry friends just having small picnics and taking in the scenery. If you're not familiar with Sherwood Garden's, it's a privately owned community park in the Guilford section of Baltimore City. It's been famous for its annual tulip since the 1920's by John Sherwood, whose home bordered the park. To this day up to 70000 tulips are planted annually along with other flowers such as magnolias and dogwoods to name a few. Best time to visit is always towards the end of April and beginning of May. Although a private park, the public is always invited to stroll at your leisure throughout the grounds. Plus, almost all of the azaleas were blooming. I loved that they had so many different colored tulips and azaleas. They did different combination of colors in all the different flower beds, so we ended up seeing some surprisingly beautiful displays, even with some tulips no longer blooming. We weren't there very long because it was cold out, but this would be a great spot for engagement pictures or a picnic.
