[Coronavirus review] It's an interesting area. There are a couple of looped trails running up and down through this park, and you get a wide variety of scenery due to some unusual "serpentine" geology. Overall, it's a rugged-looking environment. They will likely stay open as there are no crowded beaches and even with the parking areas full, the trails were hardly crammed. There is definitely a tradeoff between the area being naturalistically interesting but not as user-friendly as a more typical park. After a rainy week, the trails were muddy and difficult to navigate, and I took a few spikings from thorny plants. The ticks weren't quite in season, but I'd worry about them too. Conversely, it's very open in parts, and I imagine on a dry summer day it would be unpleasant out here. However, I spent plenty of time traversing the trails and enjoyed the views on a nice day.

Great walks to be had here, the trail is as challenging as you make it. Started from the Deer park entrance (near visitor center) and hiked up to Liberty Road. I would highly suggest long socks and shoes/boots meant for hiking. There are many areas where it's just rocks and you could easily hurt yourself if not properly prepared with the right gear.

Who knew that this treasure was right in our backyard? It is the last serpentine bedrock ecosystem in North America and we are lucky to have it in Maryland. This area once stretched from Pennsylvania to DC but since there are no more Native American tribes to help with slash and burn we are down to 2000 acres. There are many trails to choose from an most are loops which always make me happy because it means no back tracking! Since this isn't a state park and is only a natural environment area it is not open everyday so check before going!! Also note that on some of the land you can hunt during hunting season so wear bright colors!!! Also beware that you have to cross under power lines on some of the trails and beware that the trails get quite wet and slippery inclement weather so wear your hiking boots and bring your walking stick!

A wonderful walk/hike in hidden in the Owings mills area. There are a few walking trails that circle around with little streams running through. It's a great walk for families, friends, pets, or for a bit of a challenging run. It is finally filled with tons of greens and flowers, the fields are luscious and healthy! HAHA. I haven't explored all the trails, but I've gone through 2-3 different trails. You can spend 30mins on a trail or 2hrs, depending on which way routes you take. There are two entrances, each has a small map of where the trails are set. No public restrooms or picnic tables, so I don't think doing a cook out is an option. Bring your own water or drink and stay hydrated :) Get lost in this hidden gem and drop a pin to start off just in case you get lost :D

We also enjoy visiting the nature center and, especially, seeing Effy and TV-1 and TV-2, the turkey vultures.

Kilgore Falls - The waterfall!

To get to the waterfall you have to walk a path that's about 10-15 minutes. You will have to climb over some rocks in the water in your travels, but once you get to the waterfall you will absolutely love it. *Please note* Wear comfortable shoes because there are some areas that could be potentially dangerous if you don't take your time.

Notably, the parking lot requires an advance reservation on peak dates, and this policy has been expanded to cover more dates due to the pandemic lockdown pushing people to spend their days outdoors. The trail is a short loop to the falls. Great Falls this isn't, but it's significant enough to generate a nice spray. A rather upset-looking fish flopped down shallow water as I approached. Upstream of the falls was a challenge. Few fords were viable, perhaps owing to heavy rain, and signs suggesting the area was blocked off were ignored by expeditions looking for better crossings. I made it across the stream and back, but I did get a little wet. The scenery isn't worth a long drive on its own, but paired with the other local park sites, it makes for good viewing, and in particular this space with its parking limitations can't get too crowded.
