This school is truly one of LAUSD's hidden gems…read more Possibly because it's so far east in the district nestled up deep in the foothills and a nice residential neighborhood of involved homeowners The principal Mr. Guillen is an awesome guy He's very approachable ,polite and friendly They have some of the best teachers in the district working there too. My son loves his teacher Mrs. Kang and my daughter really likes her teacher Mrs. Campos. She really loved all her past teachers there They have some great assistants like Mrs. B and great office staff Their API score of 902 is one of the highest in the district that's no joke some schools struggle to hit 800 Kudos to Mr. Guillen and the teachers they must be doing something right. I wanted to add about this, the woodcraft Rangers program is top notch They are very structured and organized but the kids seem to love it, I can hardly get them to leave when I come to pick them up They want to stay until it ends at 6 o'clock Overall no doubt this is a five-star school

I feel compelled to share my experience with Mountain View Elementary due to significant concerns…read moreregarding communication, care, and transparency from the school administration. My son has attended this school since TK and had a generally positive experience until this year, which has unfortunately taken a troubling turn. This year, my son had Miss Bradford as his teacher. Initially, he connected well with her and considered her one of his favorite teachers. However, everything changed in November when I received an alarming call from the vice principal, Miss Regis informed that there was an emergency situation in the classroom involving my son, during which Miss Bradford allegedly threw his backpack and jacket at him while he was resting his head on the table. This incident was shocking and left my son feeling unsafe and confused. In the aftermath, I attempted to meet with Miss Bradford and the principal, Mrs. Kralian, to discuss the situation. However, I was told by Mrs. Kralian that they needed to follow their investigation protocols before setting up an appointment with me. Despite my numerous emails and phone calls seeking clarity, I was met with a wall of silence. The school maintained that they could not communicate further while the investigation was ongoing, leaving me feeling ignored and in the dark. What's particularly troubling is that this was not an isolated incident. Miss Bradford had previously thrown keys in the middle of the classroom out of frustration and left the room empty during another incident just weeks before her actions toward my son. These repeated behaviors were never professionally addressed by the school. Instead of focusing on Miss Bradford's behavior, the principal used my son's child behavior against him. Our children come to school to be educated, grow, and mature, and it's disheartening to see them treated this way. I once had a lot of respect for the principal, but her handling of this situation has deeply disappointed me. I have reached out multiple times, including to Miss Hatfield, to address proper communication. Most recently, I had an IEP meeting that both the principal and vice principal did not attend, despite having passed them earlier that day and greeting them. Their lack of respect and communication is concerning. I hope this message resonates and encourages a more professional approach to communication with parents. It's vital that the school respects its role in creating a safe learning environment and addresses issues transparently rather than using power to ignore and cover up suspicious situations. Than being transparent and accountable and honest and having a positive attitude and meeting to discuss and resolve for a parent to feel comfortable and understanding the situation. Hopeful for next year my son will be treat better by the school and teachers and i won't ever have to address a matter like this again.

Most of the funding only funds the robotics and cinema teams. Teachers do not teach and fail students on purpose and the administration has not done anything to fix the problem since they don't hear anyone out. We told the counselors about the issues they're having with teachers but they don't care at all and never do anything about it. I told my teachers before hand that I had a competition to go to and needed extra time to do the homework, I finished it and showed it to them and they said that apparently it's too late, it was impossible to finish all the homework they assigned, plus the extra homework they gave in one day so they gave me a zero. Kortoshian and Landisi ruined this school and they don't know how to run a school. They give you a ton of homework and tests which take away all your free time. No one deserves to go to this school.

I was originally intending for this to be a humorous review, but Andy O. has done a fine job…read moreoutlining the funnier points of the mess that is Anderson W. Clark Magnet High School. Clark touts recognition at the state and national levels for being a top school, and likes to promote its GUSD-leading API ranking, but let's be honest here, the bar is low. There are a few staff members and teachers who care about and do their jobs well, but on the whole, Clark is a case study on academic mismanagement and why many students in the American educational system succeed in spite of the schools they attend rather than because of them. As I sit here at 27 years of age writing this, I'm fairly happy with where I am in my life. I graduated from a top university and work at a job I love, which just happens to be with one of the most successful companies in history. I'm not trying to come off sounding like a tool here, but I want to make it clear that my success in these two areas commonly associated with a quality high school education came as a result of my own hard work, talent, and determination rather than anything Clark can take credit for. Thank you, Clark, for the 'innovative' curriculum that ended up being completely misaligned with the first-year prerequisites at nearly every U.S. university, the lack of any *quality* extracurricular activities, and your Draconian code-of-conduct which sought to stifle any sort of self-expression and created a culture hell-bent on breeding America's next group of mindless followers rather than its future innovators, thinkers, and leaders. On a more personal note, thanks for the 4 or 5 (?) suspensions as well. Like Andy Oh, I guess I too am a gangster. This review is getting too long and angsty already, so I think I'll end here. I will leave you with one last funnier memory, though. During one of its first years in operation, Clark was extremely excited to field a team for the district-wide academic bowl. Expectations were set high since, you know, Clark was full of nothing but the brightest students being coached by the best staff. End result? Last place finish.

There is a real sense of community here--families are involved, supported, and welcomed, which makes it feel like more than just a school. We also appreciate the spiritual foundation of the school. Weekly church on Fridays and family mass on Sundays help strengthen faith and bring everyone together in a meaningful way. Nothing makes me happier than being able to participate and watch my child present and read during Mass, take part in class projects, and see her excitement in sharing what she has learned. The micro-school approach really caters to each individual student. 1. Awesome teachers and small class sizes offer exceptional individual attention. This allows thriving students to work ahead and those who need a little more support to both receive the customized care they deserve. 2. The principal has a vision. He utilizes all of the resources available and applies them to the students in a very targeted and distinctive manner. The school's standardized test scores quantitatively demonstrate this by improving year over year and outpacing those of neighboring schools. 3. I truly believe great families make a great school. We have both. Parents are honest, ethical, and actively participate in the progress of the school. 4. Holy Redeemer - St. James School is grounded in the morals and virtues of faith.
