The front desk team is great with animals and getting them taken back - they always have kind things to say to dogs and have been very complimentary of my kitten. The vet and vet techs are so kind and informative. They always had time to answer my questions and explained what was wrong with my kitten and how we were going to get her healed up. The waiting rooms are large and while it is an emergency vet so wait times will be higher, I never felt like I was waiting an unreasonable amount of time considering that my kitten wasn't immediately life threateningly ill. Overall, I really appreciate how the whole team is communicative about the process, cost, and care so I can get my kitten healthy.

We had been recommended to call Great Lakes Pet Emergencies. So that's what we did. As I was explaining the situation to the woman on the phone, she cut me off and said "well we're still seeing patients from 5:00 pm. we wouldn't have time to treat him". I said "okay I understand, do you have any recommendations for any other hospitals that I could call, because you are the 6th hospital we've tried." She stated "well honestly that just the reality of emergency medicine this close to a holiday so I can't help you" I work in a vet hospital myself. I understand having bad days where you're backed up like no other and everyone is upset with you. I'm not upset they couldn't see us. It was late and they had more than enough going on. However, the lack of empathy and professionalism that was used on this phone call was astounding to me, especially given that I had just explained to her that my cat was actively dying in my arms. I could never imagine addressing a crying pet parent with such a lack of compassion, even on the busiest of days. I certainly hope that they treat the patients who actually do receive care at their hospital with a gentler hand.

They have a quiet room to say goodbye to your pet. Very much looks like a living room. They give you all the time you need. I even noticed one of the doctors' eyes were wet when she came in to do the pre-shot they give. This shows me that they care about their patients. They also have someone that works through the hospital that will come to your home to put your animal to sleep if that is what you choose. My daughter had that done for her cat and was very pleased on how things were handled. She got to lay next to her kitty petting her while she passed quietly. That meant a lot to her. We also received a very nice sympathy card that everyone in the hospital personally signed. Little things like that mean so much after losing a pet. Now, on a happier side of things. We have also had very sick pets that we have taken there, and they were taken care of quickly and because of them we were able to take our pets back home with us. It was our first time at OVRS so she made sure any and all questions were answered! Some even before we even had to ask! Dr. Sauerbrey was so incredibly kind, professional, and took her time explaining all of our options, giving her recommendations, but making sure at the end of the day our dog would have the best chances and best treatment possible. She was kind, empathetic, and so easy to work with. She answered all questions happily and was a joy to meet and work with. My darling was diagnosed with cancer behind one of his eyes and into his sinuses. Surgery was a possibility but I ultimately decided not to put my baby through something that would be traumatizing for him, ans my baby will be going over the Rainbow Bridge this weekend, with the help of Dr. John from Peaceful Paws. They found a very long piece of string wrapped around the base of his tongue. The remainder of the string was found in a clump in his intestines. Surgery was the only way to save my kitten's life. Our 17 year old cat Lilly had been diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. She was doing OK…read moreuntil four or five months ago when she started to decline more rapidly. We took her to the vet again who told us that Lilly had a tumor near her bladder. In the last couple weeks she declined even more and was not eating or drinking very much and had vomited bile a couple times. We took her to the vet again who said she was dehydrated and recommended that we bring her to AEC for treatment. When we got to AEC, they developed a treatment plan for IV fluids and the first step was bloodwork. We were hopeful that Lilly would improve with IV fluids and we would be able to take her home. Sadly, the bloodwork showed that IV fluids were not a viable path given Lilly's condition and that there were no other treatment options. We wanted to take her home, but the doctor advised against that because it would prolong Lilly's suffering. At the doctor's recommendation, we made the excruciating decision to put Lilly down. Although this experience was devastating and traumatizing for us, we can't say enough good things about AEC, from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctor. Everyone was so sincerely compassionate and caring and empathetic. Dr. Brink, was outstanding. She gave a detailed explanation of Lilly's condition and the blood test results. We were very impressed by her clinical knowledge and expertise and are very grateful that Lilly was in her care. We appreciated her genuine compassion. About a week after we were there, we received a lovely card signed by each staff member with individual personal notes expressing sympathy for the loss of Lilly. We are so touched by this gesture and have the card displayed on a shelf in our living room with other keepsake items and pictures of Lilly. We strongly recommend AEC if your pet needs care. Even though we lost Lilly, we do take comfort in knowing that we brought her to a place where she was cared for as well as possible in the last hours of her life by such an excellent team.

There is alot to take in , and the employees are great and take the time to explain what they do and answer questions. If you get the opportunity to take this tour, you will have fun and learn alot. This tour was almost 2.0 hrs.

I called Michigan State because they're supposed to be some of the best. The company that did the MRI prescribed steroids to shrink the tumor telling us it will probably extend his life by about two months without the treatment. There's other places that do it, but it would be about two weeks until the consultation. Michigan State said about two months. Two months when my dog's life expectancy is two months. By then, it will be way too late.
