I Brought my Frenchie in for an aural hematoma . I called before hand & they sent paperwork for me to fill out / checkin before arrival. When I walked in staff greeted him by name based off the description that I gave on paperwork. This made him so excited. The staff was extremely friendly for the most part, there was a Dr there in the beginning that didn't have much enthusiasm but I'm going to chalk it up as she had a long day, before overall she was very knowledgeable. My fur baby end up having same day surgery and was in and out in a couple of hours . When I arrived there was a different doctor that came to brief me & gave follow up instructions on everything, also very knowledgeable and she was welcoming! My baby came home better & has been resting/ recovering peacefully today! FYI: prices are high (but that's to be expected in an emergency facility) . Thank you all for taking care of my baby & helping him feel better!

Don't see Dr. MORGAN she told us we had to put our boy down. Boy was she wrong. Here he is 3 weeks later. Totally misdiagnosed him .

Beware if Dr Morgan. She misdiagnosed our boy. Told us he had to be euthanized. She was wayyy wrong. Here he is 3 weeks later. Shame on you Dr Morgan!

If I could give this place less than one star I would Please read the reviews of the kitten we had who died as a consequence of med vet not treating her as an emergency that she was They had her a small kitten who had persistent diarrhea for 5days straight long enough for me to make it home before they called to tell me I could pick her up again and she was fine just needed probiotics if things were to get worse to bring her back free of charge Upon arriving to be seen I was made to wait for the emergency even though I thought this was weird for an emergency I understood Upon arriving to get her I over hear workers telling other owners that "they are sorry about the kitten" *MY KITTEN WHO WAS CRYING IN PAIN BECAUSE SHE WAS DYING* Well two days later ria started to DIE and what happened when I call? I'm told they are too busy?! Ok no I'm frantically looking for another place Thank god Oakland veterinary referral services took us on as an actual emergency and while our kitten did wind up dying after two days of around the clock treatment From going in to sepsis she was treated like a living animal she was loved and they had a diagnosis of coccidia in under an hour of having her I'm happy we have answers Even the vet who worked on her cried actual tears that this was missed while humanly putting ria to sleep This was not the first time using med vet I picked med vet because I had been to them in the past for another animal emergency I went in with 10k to spend if it was needed Money was not the problem The problem was professionalism / handling the emergency that was at hand and dismissing it So thank you med vet for not only NOT properly doing your job but for also taking my few hundred dollars without batting an eye to see my dying animal for all of 57 minutes before sending her on her way to die than not holding your word and seeing her again when she was on the brink of death 48 hours later I've talked with people who have worked here and customers that can't say they are surprised I just hope my review can possibly save another animal in need I made the wrong choice in who I decided to trust and I paid the price literally And so did ria I decided to wait before making this review to have time to reach out (after my wedding in august) to the person I knew who had worked here and the two friends I knew who have also been here as well I didn't want to post in the hear of everything happening but it has been five/six months since loosing ria and I think that it an adequate amount of time to wait and let emotions simmer before making such a post

It's a long drive for us, but my dogs are family and worth every mile. It's a great feeling when the specialist tells you that your dog is going to be just fine. Because of COVID Restrictions I haven't been able to go inside, but staff and doctor interactions have been great.

The card I received from the office staff.

I brought my deceased cat to this office who unexpectedly passed away. The staff was friendly and we're expecting me when I arrived. They allowed my family and I to spend as much time with him and were very sympathetic. Thank you MedVet Commerce.

The convenient online Qtrac checkin and subsequent text communications avoided sitting around in an ER waiting room for hours. I knew exactly what was going on at all times and the visit summaries documented everything very well. We have now officially seen every tech, nurse, and doctor there, and each of them knocked my socks off. They acted with the highest level of care and compassion, and their way of discussing medical/technical topics is really unmatched from anywhere else we have been - and much less expensive than the ERs. Every time I left, I knew exactly what was done and exactly how to proceed with care when we got home, what to look for, and if needed, when I should come back or go to the ER. On Friday, Dr. Kate performed a second acupuncture treatment. I know a LOT about cat acupuncture now, and some herbal treatments that no other doctor had ever even mentioned before. She spoke fluently in these topics in a way that a beginner like me could easily understand. I left Friday knowing how long to wait for movement after the new herb before taking her back for an enema. That return visit the next day was fast and easy (at least it was for me) and Dr. G came out to counsel me on a couple other issues, too. I have never been rushed, I've always left with all of my questions answered and a path forward. I cannot say enough good things about Animal Urgent Center. I wish that they could be my regular vet...

Due to my sweet senior dog's proclivity for medical mysteries in the past year and a half, we've now sought care with OVRS three times (for three different reasons). Three times, they've saved my heart dog. And here's the thing: They do it all with a level of care, patience, warmth and professionalism that I've never experienced *anywhere* else, not just in the veterinary world. With so many emotional pet parents, their jobs must be unimaginably difficult and heartbreaking at times. But I've never seen anyone have a bad day, never felt rushed with my questions (and believe me, I had SO MANY), and never felt anything less than the only and most important person in the hospital, no matter how crowded the waiting room area was. This time around, Hurley had a hygroma that ruptured and turned necrotic, which needed a pretty extensive surgery, a skin flap and many, many staples. Drs. Fidell and Greene were excellent at intake, quickly diagnosing an issue that had baffled my local vet and sent us there in the first place. Dr. Greene managed to get me a surgical consult the same day, and although the surgeon's schedule was packed, they somehow found room the next week for my Hurley's procedure. Dr. McDonald-Lynch did the most incredible job with the incisions; her surgery is ART. I was prepared for the worst when I went to pick him up, and I was stunned by how good everything looked, less than one day after she cut open nearly his entire backside, removed the affected area and sutured him back together. How she and her team made what to me seemed like a pretty major surgery seem almost routine blew me away. I got texts from the operating suite from a wonderful surgical nurse named Alanna ("He's doing great under anesthesia!") and a photo immediately after. Later on that evening, I also received a text with a picture of my guy resting comfortably and smiling with the cutest sunflower blanky in his "room" for the night. You can call 24 hours a day and someone will update you like they have all the time in the world. You *can* schedule a visit, but the nurses in the back will love your pet like they are their own, and after our initial experience at OVRS, this helicopter dog mom had zero anxiety or need to make sure in person that her fur kid was OK. The receptionists talked to him over the counter while we waited, and even came out when it was slow to pet him. I watched more than one vet tech deal with a distraught owner with grace that would humble Mother Theresa. No one lost their cool or was anything but pacifying and kind and professional to a degree that made me want to stand up and clap for them. That CANNOT be easy. And the hugs! If you're a hugger, this is your place. A receptionist came around the counter to hug me when I was tearful about how I'd be able to afford the procedure. Alanna had a warm hand on my shoulder when she explained difficult things. Dr. McDonald-Lynch's eyes are so kind and her smile so genuine. Drs. Fidell and Greene were Johnny-on-the-spot with tissues and comforting words. Everything is so heartfelt and pure that it's hard to believe these people often only meet people like me on some of the worst days of their lives. All of the "extras" like that make a world of difference to someone who's stricken about leaving their beloved family member overnight (or for several days) in a stranger's care. These vets and their team are the best in the area, and it's not even close. They came to me with a Plan A, a backup plan if things went awry, and a backup plan for that backup plan, so I never had to panic if things weren't perfect at the first try ... but thank God and these people, they were. I know Hurley won't be around forever no matter what I do, but it's so, so important to my mental health that, at the end of our journey together, I can tell myself that I did everything possible for him. If this visit would have ended differently, I would still be able to have peace through my grief that I gave him the best possible chance by bringing him to OVRS. There wouldn't be any thoughts of, "What if I'd taken him somewhere else?" If he hadn't been saved there, he couldn't have been saved anywhere. I thank God and the folks at OVRS for saving my Hurley, but even if there was nothing to be done, I would still stand on everything I said above so that someone like you could hopefully understand just what kind of wonderful they have at this hospital. When it comes to your furbaby's life, don't waste precious time anywhere else. This place is the ONLY place you want to be.

I gave them a call and they said to bring her in right away. We got there and there were a few other emergencies they were dealing woth. I waited about a half hour and that was ok because Lola was in no major pain at that time. She was bleeding, but when your nail is ripped off, what do you expect? My one complaint was that they seemed almost too lax that Lola was getting blood all over. I was told not to worry that they would clean it up. We went back to the room, then vet came in right away and took and look, then shared the plan. They took her in back and 10 minutes later she came out woth her paw all cleaned and wrapped. I felt very happy with how clear the vet was in regards to the treatment and her care she was receiving. I could hear the staff in the back talking to her and comforting her as they gave care. They didn't try to get me to run extra tests or provide extra services so when it was time to checkout, the cost was half the price of the last time this happened and we took her to a different ER vet. It was such a relief as these times are tough. I was very happy with this place and will likely Make it our regular vet! Thank you!

I brought my cat here immediately after showing signs of discomfort. The initial diagnosis was related to my cats bladder and essentially kidney stones. I was advised the best treatment is to go into surgery immediately to drain the bladder, clean the urethra as well as shorten the urethra to prevent future complications. When going over the success rates of these types of procedures I was informed by the tech that in the eight years of working there, they'd never lost an animal during this procedure. She must've meant while performing surgery, because the next day on the check up, I was told my cat is experiencing kidney failure and there's no real solution to this except ending my cats discomfort. I understand these things happen but after taking a few days to process this, how this was handled by the staff there was just awful. During the initial diagnosis and discussion, I made sure I was to understand that the $2759.30 I would be spending would cover the entirety of the surgery and follow up visits. I was ensured that amount covers everything in regards to this visit and the follow up. Upon returning to pick up my cat later that evening after his hospitalization, another tech gave me a paper with an estimation of $542.89 for the follow up visit to be scheduled in two weeks. (I don't really have to worry about that anymore) Obviously, this was news to me but I don't really have an option if my cat was to live so I was willing to look past it due to my attachment to my lil guy. I was down to pay whatever. I was then told I would have another follow up the next morning just to ensure everything is fine. Surely this was included in the almost $3k I had spent earlier. It was not. I arrive back at the place of business the following day, and work with a vet I'm a bit more familiar with and we run the tests, and before going over all results, he did his due diligence and follows up with previous vet to go over options but he tells me that despite the previous vets optimism, he does not share the same sentiment as the procedure was effective, but the initial diagnosis was not 100% true to reality in a sense that they did not consider this all was a result of kidney failure. He advises me, best and most realistic route is to put my cat down or continue to run up the cost without a 100% guarantee he will survive and live comfortably. I decide it's best to just listen to him as he really doesn't seem confident we should keep pressing forward. We put my cat down and I'm handed an additional bill of $284.80 All expenses end up being $3054.10, it could have been $3302.19 should the cat have survived (I was only informed again of $2759.30 until AFTER the surgery) I was too depressed and a bit in shock to process the fact that I got swindled by this business. Despite liking to work with the second vet, as I've worked with them before with my dog, I really would never recommend anyone come here.

This place quoted up an estimate of $4500-$6500 so we quickly rushed over there. The total ended up being around $7000 for the surgery but were advised not to do the surgery. They stated they were taking my dog back for vitals but put a cone on him and did many other things without our permission, caused him a lot of distress in his final moments (he pooped all over nervously which would have been better if we could be with him). The surgeon when telling us the sad news that we'd need to put him down wasn't just blunt or "telling us the worst case scenario," she was overdramatizing it and genuinely cruel with her wording. I understanding needing to tell someone that it really is the best option to put down your dog, but there is are better ways than to tell them that he's probably going to go into cardiac arrest (which is incredibly rare) and that he only had a 20% chance it wasn't cancerous (it's closer to 30%-35%). She spoke really fast and was very gruesome with details that weren't necessary to share. The other nurse was much more realistic and told us that he would probably be just fine through surgery but because it's most likely cancerous, it would most likely be his last few months and he would probably be in pain when he could find comfort today through eternal rest. Vet Katie, who arrived on shift later right before we put him down, was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. She allowed us to take as much time as we needed and even went the extra mile and found us an ink pad and paper to get a paw print with (they had stopped doing that through there a while ago). She comforted us with her words and could understand our pain with the recent passing of her dog at home. I really appreciated her and I hope she knows the positive impact she had in that situation. My 12 year old brittany had a procedure that makes him susceptible to pneumonia. Sure enough, when I got home from work last Friday, my baby wasn't eating, was lethargic, and had a temperature. Knowing pneumonia can get life-threatening really quick, I took him to the Emergency Service West. X-rays and bloodwork confirmed my amateur diagnosis. I was given the option to keep Reno there, or to send him home with antibiotics. Given that he was stable, and not struggling to breathe, the veterinarian counseled that recovery at home was a viable option. I am happy to report that the next day, Reno had returned to his old self. We are continuing the antibiotics, and will see his regular vet in a week, but I expect he will make a full recovery. Yes, Veterinary Emergency Service West was expensive. However, had I not taken him, it is very likely Reno would have gotten worse while I waited to see his regular vet, and then may have needed hospitalization. I am so happy they are there!
