Lived here from 2011 until 2013. From the time we moved in, I found things in my unit which were broken. At first, Tracey, the Manager was nice, however after being there a while, we came to find out that she was very nosy and had "spies" around the community, reporting every stupid little thing to her. A deaf woman walks around the place, clearly high on some narcotic, talking so loudly you can hear her. Often she bangs on other doors to get people to talk to her and share "gossip", of which she is more than happy to spread all over the community.
Some of the things which happened over the two years we stayed there: My car was keyed for no reason whatsoever, other than someone thought it was a police car (I work for the court system), after a year, we got some horrible new neighbors below us (we were third floor), who banged doors all day, and blasted bass filled music. Once I went to ask them nicely to keep the noise down, and the mexican dude became very agressive with me. His wife, which claimed to speak no english, had no trouble chiming in at the door and using many curse words toward me. This discussion attracted the attention of many of the neighbours in the building who came out to see what was happening. Another time I had a guy walking around my building in the middle of the day, banging on all of the doors in the building. When he came to my door, I asked him what he wanted, and he asked "if I knew where the gay guy lives?" No folks, I could not make this stuff up. Several times we had to endure an entire day of no water, because maintenance had to turn the entire building off because of some leak. The Howell police were in the place so many times I could not count, and TWICE in two years, I observed a fire in one of the buildings (luckily not ours).
Finally we found a much nicer place to live, and as we were moving out, I moved my car and a moving truck (at different times) onto the lawn to make loading easier. This was done by many people over the years, so I did not see any problem. I was careful to drive slowly and not tear anything up. As I was leaving with a load, Tracey came running (sort of) over to tell me that I was "disrespecting the property", which I was not of course. After I calmed her down and agreed not to do it again, she was fine.
About a month after I moved, I receive my security deposit back in the post. Tracey subtracted $35 for a hole under the bedroom door in the carpet, which was not new by any means when we moved in, and clearly needed to be replaced.
Yes the place was cheap, and when we moved in, it was the only place in Howell I could find with vacancy, but it is NOT worth half the rent they charge. Do yourself a favour, STAY AWAY FROM PINE HILLS APARTMENTS! read more
