The cabin was clean, with new beds, stove, TV and superior cookware in the kitchen. The cabin had 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and large kitchen which was open to the living room. It had a huge back porch that overlooked the lake. What's not to love when you have such a great place to stay. The new owners are fantastic, and you can tell that they have a lot of pride in their resort. On Wednesday night we had a fantastic meal with them along with the other guests staying on sight for the week(s). There is plenty to do if you would like to stay at the resort - playscape, swings, kid hot-tub (enclosed), adult only hot-tub (enclosed), pontoon boat, small fishing boats, kayaks, lounge chairs and hiking trails. The lake is fantastic - very clean, and stays shallow for quite some time in various areas. The resort is centrally located from all the "to-dos" in the U.P. - which makes it even better. Close by is Taylor Market which offers everything you will need to stock the kitchen in the cabin for a week. My family and I cannot say enough great things about the resort. We can't wait to go back. Run, don't walk, to book your stay.

Although I had not visited when the previous owners ran it, the current owner clearly cares about the Inn and the experience it provides for its visitors. The historic nature of the building includes what you might expect: beautiful solid wood finishes, slightly creaky floors, enormous original windows, nooks and niches. It's clean and there are decisive design updates (period-correct wallpapers, lace curtains). The restaurant was great and a step up from the also delicious but more classic corner dining experiences in the area. We plan to return and look forward to the Inn's continual evolution and warm hospitality as we explore Michigan's incredible Upper Peninsula.

I would like to say that the poor review that was left by a gentleman named John G. is not 100%…read morefactual. They were instructed to call the motel to reserve the rooms with a credit card. This was apparently never done so the rooms were not reserved. It could have been avoided with a simple call to the motel to ensure everything was in order. As far as the other issues noted, I am following up with management to find out more. Please do not let one bad review keep you from staying. Certainly if there are any short comings we would like to know so improvements can be made. I've gotten many good reviews that are not posted on here. I quickly fell in love with the resort and all it has to offer. This is a rustic cabin U.P. getaway that encourages its guests to share their week with each other. It offers children to run free safely to enjoy the beach, Rec Hall, playground or docks (not to mention nightly scooter rides.) The prices are fair, the number of people that rebook for the next year is unheard of and fellow "campers" become family. If you're able to get a cabin year after year for a week during the best weather months for the U.P., you are very lucky. Oh, and the sunsets! This is a family vacation! Family owned, family friendly and family focused. My kids love it here and we will never miss a summer trip to Birch Shores. As a footnote, when I proposed to my wife (way back in Feb 2004), I knew she love BSR so much, I turned my apartment into a virtual Birch Shores. Several hundred pounds of sand, "Lake Manistique" (okay, just a kiddie pool with fake fish), chase lounges and all. This is her favorite place on earth and wanted it to be a part of this big moment.
