Only gave them 4 stars because one window was missing a screen and we couldn't get wifi from our cabin. I'm guessing that cabin 5 wouldn't get real great Wi-Fi signal either based on observations made while walking around. Its also kind of a hassle that they only take cash/check, but they do make you aware of this when you make reservations. The beds arent the most comfortable, but I sleep pretty easily wherever I am. The entire property is pretty gorgeous. We didn't use the kayaks or boats but they appeared to be in decent shape. We used the firepit and there was firewood provided. The screened in porch was very nice to have for drinking the morning coffee and listening to nature. I'd definitely go back!

We arrived in the dark, but the next morning opened the curtains to the most beautiful lake right out our front door. The owners even provide small boats for the use of the guests. We were compacting a lot of site seeing into a short time so we did not use the boats, but we sure enjoyed the beach chairs down by the lake. Everything was clean and well equipped. Marybeth and her husband went out of their way to make us feel very comfortable. This will be a destination location the next time we visit Michigan.

The resort sits on a fairly large lake, 1 mile south of Lake Superior...the lake was originally used as a Lumber Holding\Sorting area. The proximity to both does not just offer some fantastic fishing, but keeps the temperature relatively tame.. Mid July we were roughly in the low 70s, a couple of days in the low 80s and a few nights in the 40s... so don't worry bout the absence of AC in the cabins... Not really Needed. However light pants and long sleeve shirt may be a life saver when the black flies are about. They can be relentless in the north-woods There are 6 cabins, 2 x 2 Unit Duplexes and 2 stand alones? The wife and I stayed in a duplex laid out as an efficiency unit . Again no AC but a small fan was supplied with screened windows offering a great cross-breeze. We had a double bed plus a double futon as a couch..bedding pillows and some warm blankets were provided. Hot water was ample, crisp great tasting well water.. Bathroom had a shower and toilet...powerful plumbing with clean towels!. The kitchen had a small 2 seat dinette as shown in the photos. Propane range\oven with a small set of pans and cooking utensils. We had a toaster, efficiency refrigerator w/freezer and Weber grill outside. Servings for 4. The place was immaculate.. bring paper towels and TP There's 150\200' of nice beach, an area for a communal bonfire..fish cleaning hut and a rowboat is provided with the cabin. Motorboats when available are 50$ a day but you can bring your own. This was a deal at a great price. Gather your necessities at the IGA in Newberry on the way in because once you're here ya don't want leave. Ask mike about where the berries are when they're in season. I was introduced to BSR by my wife that has been coming since she was born (1975) and her family…read morehas been coming since the late 50's. I quickly fell in love with the resort and all it has to offer. This is a rustic cabin U.P. getaway that encourages its guests to share their week with each other. It offers children to run free safely to enjoy the beach, Rec Hall, playground or docks (not to mention nightly scooter rides.) The prices are fair, the number of people that rebook for the next year is unheard of and fellow "campers" become family. If you're able to get a cabin year after year for a week during the best weather months for the U.P., you are very lucky. Oh, and the sunsets! This is a family vacation! Family owned, family friendly and family focused. My kids love it here and we will never miss a summer trip to Birch Shores. As a footnote, when I proposed to my wife (way back in Feb 2004), I knew she love BSR so much, I turned my apartment into a virtual Birch Shores. Several hundred pounds of sand, "Lake Manistique" (okay, just a kiddie pool with fake fish), chase lounges and all. This is her favorite place on earth and wanted it to be a part of this big moment. That's the kind of resort this is.
