I hired Pillars of Earth to do snow removal at my new house before I moved in, three times over about a month. (I didn't move in right away because I was having renovations done.) They promised to take photos of their work, so I wouldn't even have to travel to the house to make sure it was good. The first time, I had forgotten to leave outdoor lights on, so they were unable to clear the stairs down to the basement door in the dark, but they came back and did that the next day. The photos were a little delayed, but when they arrived, showed that Pillars of Earth had done a wonderful job clearing the snow in all the areas I asked (sidewalk, pathways up to the door, the garage, around the side of the house). There was a little bit of ice in a couple places but enough clear path to walk on. This was confirmed when I went to the house a little later on. The second time, they did a great job again, absolutely no complaints, and they sent photos again. The third time, I gave them very little warning, as I wanted the paths to be clear in time for moving day. I didn't hear back until after they had already done the work, the day after I requested it. They had taken photos as usual, and they didn't even charge me, as a housewarming gift! So in short: Pillars of Earth does a great job of removing snow, receives payment by etransfer, works on pretty short notice (generally a couple days), and is happy to do special things like taking photos of their work. The person I booked with, Tony, communicates by email and text (but not phone, due to lack of hearing, which is fine by me), and is very pleasant and nice! I definitely recommend Pillars of Earth for snow removal, and I'll be looking into their winter plan where they come whenever needed for a monthly fee. read more

We have used Pillar of Earth for our landscaping and winter snow removal. Pricing is more than the last company but much better work and more reliable. It's all around been great with only one hiccup. We spend a fair amount of time out of town and have a large driveway so we expect it cleaned for while we are home and away. For safety, ease of access and to make sure it looks like someone is home. The work is top notch and only once have we had an issue. The morning cleaning of snow was scheduled to start no earlier than 7 am and one morning they were doing it at 6:30. We let them know not to and ever since things have been great. Will be using this year and winter. read more

I haven't written this review earlier because I normally live overseas and haven't been able to access Yelp. In summer 2017 we hired PofEC to clean up the front of our yard under a large pine tree. Tony was immediately responsive to emails, and he and his wife completed the landscaping within a day, on budget. They placed in edging, chips and a simple stone pathway. One year later it is looking just as it was installed (with some weed growth through the chips). Overall, we are more than pleased with PofEC, they were professional, courteous, responsive and fair in pricing. We would hire them again, without a doubt. read more

We've had many landscaping projects done for us over the years, some big, some small. If you've had some of those experiences yourself you'll appreciate why I had to write this review of the project that Pillars of Earth Construction did for us last year and why I say that when it comes to landscapers, you get to a point where you just hope you're going to get lucky this time. The conundrum of landscaping is that we all want the expertise you supposedly get with the big name companies along with the individual attention and creative flair you look to smaller boutique firms to offer. Pillars of Earth gave us the perfect combination. They completed our initial project of redesigning the side space of our house to include a tiered retaining wall, water feature, custom garden spaces and a flagstone walkway - on schedule and on budget. Based on this success we enlarged our project to include a complete redesign of our back yard from a cramped, out of date plastic deck to a modern outdoor living space. It includes built-in, water tight, storage sheds, BBQ area, flow through patio flooring, curved step down patio sitting area, two custom designed red cedar pergolas, a custom water wall, two custom fire pit tables and a host of other creative features we hadn't initially considered - on schedule and on budget. They were able to manage a complex construction sequence from start to finish from initial design to finished carpentry work. (Just one example - maintaining level appearance and functionality while incorporating a double grade for water drainage). Where necessary, they subcontracted work requiring ticketed trades skills to their extensive network of associates. Most importantly for us, they brought a steady flow of creative ideas and options that we could consider as the project evolved and showed us how different approaches would get different results. Tony and Courtney are easy going people and we looked forward to our work time with them. In the end we were truly thrilled with the results - we finally got lucky with a great company and great people. So much so we have invited Pillars of Earth to show our project to any prospective customers who might like to see any example of their work and were delighted to discover that they offered snow removal services so we signed them up for that as well. Shame on you for trying to blame this on the other landscaper. That system you created was working fine for the balance of the summer. I even checked on it over the winter and we were happy with it. No one ran into it or over it. It is situated right up against the house running parallel to the house. Literally a 1" gap from the pipe to the house. If someone ran into it, they would be running into our house. That system was 100% designed and created by you. It is not something you will see in most Edmonton homes. You designed it and it did not hold up to our winter-spring transition, which can sometime go from freezing, melting and then freezing. At some point during March/April (probably) it failed. When I emailed you a photo, you even admitted it. FYI I still have the emails. I even asked then (May 1st, 2018) to provide notice and in general Fridays are not good. The system you created sat in a pipe underground, was connected to the sump exiting the house and the other end facing east was unsupported. Clearly this is a stress fracture. This IS a warranty issue. That system is by your own creation and design. If you were asked to leave the property, why would I contact you twice afterwards? You came by without any notice ON FRIDAY. My dad tells you I'm not home and asked you to contact me. You looked at the system; pull it out of the ground and YOU GUYS DECIDED not to do anything, on your own accord based on I don't know what. I texted you twice after. First asking when you might be coming and to let me know when so I can be home. Second text stating FYI I'm working from home today if you want to come if it is convenient for you. If you got kicked off the property, why would I text you. YOU choose to ignore/disregard both messages. My family has been nagging me to write a Yelp review, which I actually normally don't do. But I'm tired of people walking away from their responsibilities. I paid you $420 and now I have to pay someone else at least $200 to take it back to the old set up and it is currently rigged with a flexible hose and twist ties!!!! I'm not sure what you are driving at with your "we are just a husband and wife". Maybe it's an attempt to garner sympathy but there are hundreds of spousal business partnerships. It doesn't make you any less culpable towards your responsibilities. Oh one more thing....from this point moving forward you are now NOT ALLOWED back on the property. As well, this will be the last post I make. I am not interested in wasting my time. This concludes my Yelp review. read more

This is a good company and they have been working very hard to run their business successfully. In 2016 and 2017, they did the snow removal for me with excellent work. They sometimes came to do their work even it was very late. They provided very nice services which impressed me a lot. Great guys! read more
