I started out attending private classes with Sharon mid-pandemic and eventually progressed to group classes. Now my weekly favorites are tower class with Sharon and barre class with Andrea. You really get the feeling that teaching is their calling and they love what they do. They have a way of making "hard work" fun and really can read - and if necessary - adjust your posture or poses to maximize the impact on a muscle group. It's almost like Sharon has a sixth sense for those things! Any time I go to a class it boosts my energy and spirits -- and any time I miss a class, I feel like there's been a loss to my general well being. I can feel my body changing and strengthening for the better each week and I'm truly glad that I made the choice to join the Pilates-Barre studio!

I moved to Connecticut about 6 months ago and after two years of getting my Masters and a whole lot of sitting around, I knew I had to do something! I like nearby The Pilates Centre, read some reviews, and saw that they offered a free intro class. I had never done Pilates before (used to do Yoga quite a bit), but really wanted to try something new. Even though I felt intimidated by what I saw others doing and the machines in the room, I felt welcomed in and supported. After the trial session, I signed up for a 10 pack and haven't looked back. I am nearing session #22 with the owner, Jen, and have already seen changes in my body. I am sold on Pilates and will be remaining a loyal customer of The Pilates Centre. I always feel confident that Jen really knows what she is doing and is supportive of whatever stage I am in with my fitness. She has been incredibly motivational with getting my fitness back on track. I haven't tried any of the classes yet, but once I feel more confident I could see myself mixing class sessions in with the personal sessions. Walking into this studio is almost like walking into someone's warm and cozy home, you definitely feel right at home. There are lockers and space to put your stuff. They even have keys on the lockers if you feel like using them. The class was very challenging but I felt supported the whole way through. Though the movements seem very simple when you are just observing, performing them is a whole different story. I was sore for several days after but in the most satisfying way. The studio is on the small side so while their website says walk-ins accepted, I definitely recommend registering ahead of time. My class had 10-12 people in it and that was about the limit. This really allowed the instructor to provide personalized feedback and make sure everyone had proper form. I've taken barre at a number of other studios (primarily Bar Method) and found class very similar. If you've never taken any type of barre class before, I recommend arriving the suggested 15 minutes early and making that known to the front desk and the instructor. It was clear that there were a lot of regulars and the instructor, Eve, was less detailed in her cues/movement descriptions than I'm used to. I would also suggest that she make a point to introduce herself at the beginning of class, welcome any new folks, and let them know that she's available to answer questions/if they need help. Overall though I thought she was a fantastic instructor. Very supportive, easy to follow, and nice about corrections. If I lived in the area this would be my regular barre spot for sure. When I first signed up, the front desk clearly told me I was only committing to a three-month subscription and could decide whether to renew after that. That sounded fair--so I signed up. Four months after I stopped attending, I realized they had continued charging me $211.64 per month without a single courtesy call, check-in, or even a reminder. When I reached out, I was told the subscription automatically renews and requires 30 days' notice to cancel. This was never made clear upfront. It's sneaky, misleading, and feels like a deliberate cash grab. On top of that, their class availability is trash. There's a massive gap in the middle of the day, and all the decent class times fill up fast--making it nearly impossible to attend consistently, even if you wanted to. That lack of flexibility is a huge problem for anyone with a normal schedule. I've had far better results doing free Pilates classes at home on YouTube. If you're looking for quality, accessible instruction without the shady fine print, I highly recommend Move with Nicole and Issa Welly Pilates. Both are fantastic and totally free. Save your money. Save yourself the frustration. There are much better options out there that respect both your schedule and your wallet.
