We're a little over protective of our pupper and I can say this is the perfect daycare/boarding for your furry loved ones! We were visiting Tampa from Orlando for a little weekend getaway vacation - Busch Gardens Food and Wine Festival, Dali Museum, Breweries, Food Etc. and were looking for a place to bring our pup that was safe and fun for her. I was originally drawn in by their hours of operation being much later than any other place in the area (9 pm closing). I called a few weeks in advance and was asked a bunch of questions about vaccinations, temperament, breed type, etc - all things that made me feel even better about Pilar's. When we arrived we wanted to take a look around before committing to leaving our pup there all day and they were happy to give us a tour of the property. The entire place was spectacularly clean and so very well put together! Pilar had a great handle on all 20 or so pups that were already there. She was clearly the pack leader! She explained that she would introduce all of them to our pup one-by-one so as not to overwhelm her. There is a large outdoor area covered in soft turf, a barn style covered area where the bath and grooming is all set up, and an indoor area with A/C, dog beds and different rooms and areas for separating, napping or feeding when needed. All these areas are typically left open for all the pups to access wherever and whenever they need. Oh, and each pup gets their own cubbie drawer for their personal belongings, treats, food, etc. We left or pup there each morning for two days and picked her up around 9 pm each night. She was absolutely exhausted from playing all day long and seemed so happy and content with her day! And she got so excited when we pulled into the parking lot the second morning! Overall we are extremely happy with our experience at Pilar's and so grateful to have a truly wonderful place to bring our pup when we want to visit Tampa. In fact, next time we decide to fly out of state somewhere we will probably flight out from Tampa just so we can leave our pup with Pilar while we're away! Pilar's is absolutely wonderful!!! Before you go, they do accept cash or checks ONLY, no credit cards. Our day rate was a super reasonable $28/day and she stayed about 12 hours each day. I can't recommend Pilar's Pet Resort more! This is definitely a home-away-from-home for any pup that stays here, whether daycare or overnight. Pilar is thorough in her requirements for vaccinations and observation of temperament, which is understandable since this is a home-style environment. The inside and outside areas are kept so clean; each pup has a cabinet for their food/ belongings; and there are multiple cots, doggy beds, and nooks throughout the resort for a pup to lounge, in addition to the large backyard plus a shaded "in-betweener" area. Unlike with other dog daycares, when our pup comes back from Pilar's Resort he never has the "odor" of being in an animal environment (Pilar often has 30-40 pups to care for). Love this place & so does my dog! These owners truly love your pets & their fees are reasonable. They are very friendly & make exceptions if they can if you're in a jam. The shampoo that they use on the dogs smells amazing & actually lasts for days on my dog. I've never had any problems with my dog being there & I really like that they screen the dogs for any aggressiveness beforehand. Also, they really take the Covid seriously with you & your pet & they make sure all pets are up to date on all vaccines before taking them in. We were going to an evening event at the Amelie Arena and wanted to drop our dog off somewhere nearby, but I knew the chances were slim of finding a place that would be open for dropoff and pickup outside normal business hours. Lucky for us, Pilar's Pet Resort was exactly what we needed! Right from the first moments of calling and talking on the phone, you can tell how much they love dogs and how thorough they are in making sure the dogs that visit there will fit in. Pilar asked lots of great questions about his temperament, which to some might seem like a bit of an interview, but I love and appreciate the fact that she takes it very seriously and wants to ensure a fun and safe time for everyone. Most of the big chains don't accept intact males for group activities, but at Pilar's, the dogs are very well monitored and screened. When we first got there they were so nice and welcoming to us and our dog and told us to go ahead and remove his leash so he could follow us around checking out the place. The setup was great and SO clean, especially considering having several dogs there. We couldn't even keep our house that clean when we had ONE shedding German Shepherd, but they managed to do it with multiple Shepherds and a whole group of other dogs! They are great in the way they introduce a new dog also, putting ours in the yard by himself first then slowly introducing a dog or two at a time and before you knew it we were surrounded by about a dozen dogs and everyone was having a great time. We dropped him off at 5pm and picking him up at about 10pm wasn't a problem and he had so much fun he could barely keep his tongue in his mouth when we picked him up, tail wagging all the way to the car then completely passed out for the rest of the night and most of the next day! We can't wait to take him back, and they have lots of regulars there so the dogs can get familiar with each other. We've been to lots and lots of dog boarding places over the years, some better than others, but none as amazing and welcoming and genuine as Pilar's Pet Resort! We came into Tampa for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and left our dog here; they were very nice and hospitable. We got the tour of this place and it was bigger than we expected. The inside and outside were very clean and all the dogs were hanging out together, which was something you don't see often; 30+ dogs of all different breeds and sizes roaming freely, getting along super well. Our dog is a 7 lbs Chihuahua mix and I felt confident leaving her there after speaking with and meeting the owners. When we picked up our little dog, she seemed happy and had no anxiety like when we leave her for a grooming at Petsmart. We will definitely use their services again. We have boarded our dog Miko at multiple places across the country including California, Florida and Texas. Pilar's Pet Resort is, without doubt, the best place that Miko has stayed. When Miko arrives at Pilar's pet resort, he can't wait to get in the door. When we pick him up, he is always exited to see us, but he is not always happy to leave Pilar's. Pros: + Truly cage free. All dogs are free to roam the air-conditioned facility and go outside in a mid-sized clean play area. + Family run by people who genuinely love dogs. + Cozy for a dog with couches and cute elevated dog beds. + Smells clean, looks clean and is clean. + Frequent photo updates of dogs at play. + Pilar and staff are very caring and responsible. Pilar noticed that Miko was under the weather one day and drove him to our local vet (about 45 minutes away) for a check-up. She informed us promptly and did not charge us for the trip. + Pilar and staff understand dogs. They know when a dog needs a little quiet time and have special large rooms where they can temporarily keep dogs in need of a rest. + It is a joy to see the dogs follow Pilar about. She cares for them and they care for her. + Very good rates. + Fairly close to airport. + Many of the dogs are frequent boarders. These dogs provide stability, calm the pack and can become permanent friends with your dog. Cons: - We moved away from Florida and cannot find a place that is half as good as Pilar's. My wife and I have been bringing our Lhasa-Poo to Pilar and Herman since he was a puppy. He is treated like family at their facility. We've left him with Pilar for short and long trips...never once worrying about him while we are gone. I left my dog at Pilar's over the holidays and I have to say I am very impressed. Pilar and Herman take such pride in their business. They are true dog lovers and it shows. I love the concept of truly cage-free. Pilar likes to meet every dog before she accepts them for boarding and I fell in love with the place. I've boarded her at other local places that pale in comparison. My dog slept for 2 days straight once I brought her home. She went to give me her paw and fell over because she was so tired. I will absolutely be using Pilar's Pet Resort for all my boarding needs. Highly recommend it! read more

We always bring our dog here when we head out of town. As soon as we pull into the parking lot, he goes bonkers!! He sprints into the building and acts like he never knew us. We love that we can drop him off/pick him up at any time day or night (within reason of course). A bonus is that our dog is so tired from playing all day and night, that when we get him home he passes out and is super chill for a few days! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I do wish they had a web cam going so I could check in on my dog from time to time. But all in all, this is a great place that allows us to have guilt free vacations! read more

Although I have had the opportunity to use this service on several occasions, over many years, I will not likely be using it in the future. The greatest advantage that they offered was a pick up and delivery (P/U&D) service. Otherwise, they charge a hefty fee (P/U&D is also not free) and have quite an attitude, which I have been confronted with at least twice. On at least one occasion, my pet returned infested with fleas. That should have been enough for me, but I was assured this would not happen again. Because I am a busy professional I value the P/U&D service, so I continued to use them on occasion, especially when time was of the essence. Most recently, because I had the audacity to expect that when a time commitment is made I at least receive a phone call when this commitment cant be lived up to, I was told that I was no longer going to be eligible for P/U&D. I was told that the "100's" of other customers never have a problem with their showing up 30 minutes early or late and that I was just a trouble maker and that in the future I would only be allowed to board my pet if I delivered her. In response I sent my check with a 2 week delay, since punctuality is not a requirement for this business. I am quite disturbed with this situation as I think a client paying $250 for a 5 night boarding should be treated with a minimum of respect. But instead of an apology this is what I got. I hope they really have '100's" of clients who dont care and/or that they are not dependent upon the income derived from this business because any sensible pet owner should really think twice before subjecting themselves (or their pets) to this kind of tyranny. read more
