Worst experience , I've taken my dog here for years But, today I was completely unsatisfied with my dogs hair cut . He gets the same cut each time and it's on the ticket , When I picked him up his ears still have small twigs in his hair , he still had eye boogers and his hair did not look like they scrubbed him at all , or smell like he was bathed ! This is my second visit. Initially I pleaded with them to be extremely careful to follow my notes as my dogs have recently had terrible grooming experiences. I wanted to ensure that their ears and faces had an opportunity to grow out. The results weren't great, but they weren't terrible either...additionally and equally importantly, my dogs were happy and the staff was very nice. Same can't be said for this time around, almost as if they disregarded all of the notes, even though we discussed my requests AGAIN this morning. There's no way I should be expected to pay $50 for my dogs' faces to look like they've barely been touched and my boy's ears to be chopped up, unevenly, and against my explicit instructions. "Do not tip/trim ears. Do not cut bangs. Scoop eyes. Teddy bear face". He looks terrible and I'm beyond dissatisfied. I have been a long time client this salon. I have been taking my most recent dog, a mini-golden doodle, here for nearly a year. Today, I dropped her off for a grooming and in her excitement she got her leg caught in the electrical cord of a wax warmer that was sitting on the counter. The cord was on the public side of the counter down low. The warmer fell over and off the counter, pouring wax on her shoulder and leg, fortunately, it did not get into her eyes. I was told that they would be able get the wax off of her. I was called a couple hours later saying that it could not be removed, to Google for a solution and that she was ready to be picked up. I called @SOUTHSHORE PET GROOMING in Ruskin and was told to bring her right in. Within 3 hours they had completely removed the wax and bathed her 3x in the process. I was told that she did have a bit of redness on her skin, to watch if it started to cause any discomfort for her and to take her to her vet, if needed. I have sent an email to Southside regarding this matter and am awaiting a response. The placement of a wax warmer on the counter with the cord exposed where a pet could possibly get tangled up in it is dangerous and upsetting that it in fact happened to my pet. Being told that "there was nothing that could be done and to Google for a possible solution" left me angry. I am sad that my dog had to go through this ordeal, but I hope it keeps other pets from the same. read more

I have boarded my dog for three years now every Labor Day I go to pick up my dog today before noon like I asked and nobody is there. Was there 30 minutes or so and then went to the side door it was unlocked the gate is open and all the dogs are in there alone I suggest nobody leave any dog there they don't care and then they wanted to press charges on me because I went in and got my dog. If I could give zero stars I would. When I arrived to pick up my dog I was handed half a leash in one hand with the other half on the dog. The explanation was I don't know what happened maybe he chewed on it. After I got the dog in the car I checked the leash and it was not chewed. It was literally cut in half and had a clean straight cut. I called and asked for an explanation and was told by the manager Anna, she would discuss it with the owner, Lisa, and I would get a call back. I placed two calls and was told the same thing on each call. I have yet to hear back from the owner or the manager. It only leaves me to think that something inappropriate happened and they are completely ignoring and avoiding me. I don't think that's going to work. I feel like it is not a safe environment to leave my dog and of course will not be going there anymore. I would advise you not to as well. read more

My dog Gadget is a 5 1/2 pound Papillion that I have trimmed quite a bit. He looks adorable with shorter hair. When I went to pick him and his brother up, the lady from the back came out to chat which I thought was nice. This has never happened before. All was well. I get home and I notice that Gadget's cut was very uneven. Not a big deal b/c of Covid lockdown I was just happy to get excess hair trimmed. At 7:00 that evening, Gadget started squinting his right eye. I took him to the vet the next day and he had a cut on his cornea. I called the groomer to let them know they need to be more careful and do additional training (as the man who took him back was new) and the lady on the phone was incredibly apologetic. She assured me the owner would call and check on Gadget and follow up (we were not looking for payment for the $160 vet bill or refund for the grooming). Absolute silence....nothing. Horrible way to treat a long time customer of two when you injure their pet! read more

They don't listen to what I want done to the dog. They always cut the ears and tail too short, even when specifically asking they not cut them at all. Great if you want your dog shaved. If you gave a long hair dog and just want him cleaned up, he'll come back with short hair. They just ignore instructions. read more

We have gone to Southside Pet Salon for several years and overall, they've done what we've asked with regard to grooming our dog. We went back in May, after everything started to reopen and the service was terrible. To start, there was a sign that read, "Due to inflation, we were forced to raise our prices." going from $40.00 to $50.00 for a standard grooming. Inflation is nowhere near 25% as far as I can see. We never received a phone call that our dog was ready after we were promised a call; I had to actually call them, right before closing. The cut was a little bit shorter than we had hoped for but we were okay with that, however, we saw that they left several areas in our dog's nether region, under his tail, sporadically, uncut. This wasn't a huge deal until we started to see "accumulations" in the area after he had "used the bathroom" which necessitated cleaning that area once per day. The worst part was that they clearly shaved him "too close" on his face which caused him to itch and scratch. And as they didn't trim his nails, the incessant scratching quickly became infected which caused a $200.00 trip to the vet. My wife reached out to them via e-mail and and by the website contact page; their only response was to say that they never received her e-mail and made no reference to the problems that she had articulated. We're both really disappointed in not only the service that we received but the complete lack of response after us having contacted them. Sadly, we're looking for a new groomer... read more

I would not recommend this salon. I'm new to the area. I've been to Southside Pet Salon a couple of times and have yet to have a good experience. So I will be going elsewhere moving forward. They aren't very friendly. My dog's cuts have been super choppy. Their prices have been different each time I pick my dogs up. I called and was told one price. Picked my dogs up and was charged another price. Next time I went in they tried to charge me $10 more and one of my dog's being more than the other. Made no sense because the dog they tried to charge me more for had less hair than my other dog. Both small breeds that receive just a basic groom each time. When I ask why they are charged differently/more they don't really have an explanation. Another thing I don't like is you pay before you even get to see your pets. I would be giving 1 star but I'm giving 2 stars because after questioning the pricing the manager did adjust the price. But the fact that pricing has been an issue each time I've gone in and my dog's haircuts have been super choppy I'm very disappointed and will not be going back. read more

The worst grooming experience ever! If you care about your animals, please do not leave them with these people! After having my dog there for almost 8 hours 1 day (with an appointment), and calling several times to ask if she was done, and being told "not yet", I just drove up there to pick her up (it was almost closing hours). When I got there she had not even been touched. When I raised questions to the staff, they could offer no explanation other than "We're extra busy." I pressed them more and one of the staff members proceeded to argue with me, quite aggressively and then began using curse words and slander about my skin color! I was in literal shock. I left and asked that the owner contact me. After weeks of calling and emailing, I NEVER received a call or response by the owner. They clearly do not care about their customers, the animals, or even their reputation. Please never use this place! read more

I have taken my fur baby, Zoey, twice for grooming and once for boarding. Southside Pet Salon have a great caring personnel. Zoey loves going there and is happy when I drop her off. Owner is very nice as well. Definitely recommend them. Going back already for boarding in May! read more

My dog was taken there twice. The first time, no issues. We just needed a nail cut and it was done in the waiting area. The second time we left her to get a wash and nail cut. We were told there would be a call when she was done. She was dropped off around 10 am, after not receiving a call by 12:30 pm, I called and was told they were swamped (we had an appointment) I called again around 2 pm asking if there were any issues. I was told my dog resisted having her ears washed (I warned them ahead of time) but that she was not complete. We finally received a call AFTER 4 pm. I was livid! My dog hadn't eaten, had water and was obviously fearful since she was humble when picked up and up to a day after being home (very quiet). I'm not sure what they did, but my belief was that it was harmful, and they wanted to keep her waiting until things "got right". My husband had to pick her up because I was too emotional. We will NEVER take our baby back! The apology was lame and we still had to pay full price. NEVER AGAIN! read more

The first time I took my doggie here, they shaved him everywhere and it didn't look good as they took away the cute fluffy hairs on his face. I thought I didn't give them clear instructions so I tried them again. I did like the clean fragrant smell thou and he was super clean. The second time he looked like a wolf with too much hair left on his chest. But they put some type of strawberry fragrance and I liked it. I thought third time is a charm. It actually was great the third time!!! I showed them a picture of what I really wanted and it came out great. They even gave him a jack o lantern bandana. Everyone stopped and petted or starred at him and compliment me on my cutie little doggie. read more

I'm a huge fan of this groomer. They have excellent prices and treat my dog very well. He's a Siberian husky/German Shepard mix and he is terribly hairy but they do fantastic work. Normally my dog hates the groomer and it takes forever to pick him up. Most people are overwhelmed by all of his undercoats but not here. They are quick and professional, and I love the adorable bandana they gave him. If you are trying to find a GREAT groomer look no more, you found them!! read more

When dropping off my puppy this morning I asked them to trim her body but to leave her face and tail the way it was. When I picked her up, her body was looked great but they trimmed down her ears. I'm really disappointed that they didn't listen fully to what I wanted done. Her crimped, long, "fluffy ears" are part of her character. I understand that it's fur and it will grow back, but we won't be coming back to this salon and it was our first time going. I'm truly disappointed. read more

I bring my dog here every week to get her nails done. They are very gentle and quick. I used to go to one of the big pet stores, but it's hit or miss on how good the groomer is. My dog doesn't like her feet touched. They do a good job of working with her, and making her comfortable. This is the only place that she's gone to where she's not nervous or whiney. They are animal lovers here and it shows. Great people, friendly. People friendly and dog friendly. I've never had the need to use then for boarding or pet sitting, but every time I go I see them taking the dogs out. Which is a good thing. read more
