The prices here aren't the best because it's a little bit pricey but they have cute Piggly Wiggly products like T-shirts and cups and bags and coasters and they also have some good deals sometimes such as cheese and ice cream from Wisconsin. No longer the only grocery in Galena as in many small communities, Walmart has moved in. Join piggly savers to gain points for fuel discounts and some product savings. When you walk in this one in Galena, you will likely smell delicious roasting whole chickens. Heavenly! Good selection of produce, meat, and canned goods. I don't find the beer/wine/liquor pricing very competitive-get yours elsewhere! The floral area usually has some nice chochkies. Pricing on non sale items so-so, similar to Jewel or other major grocery. Some good deals on sale items tho. read more

After visiting Piggly Wiggly tonight, I was extremely disappointed with their service. An older woman came up to me as I was looking at the deli and said they were closed and proceeded to be very rude saying she couldn't get me anything other than sliced meat which was fine except how nasty and unprofessional she was acting. FYI this was at 7PM 2 hours before the closed. I wish I had her name because after I walked away she was yelling to be across the store saying I missed samples because I walked away from her. Degraded and humiliated at the deli by a male employee that I was unable to hear. True I have a limited hearing in my left ear. He had his head down and I did not hear what he said. So I simply asked if the deli was closed. He proceeded to sing hellloooooo ma'am. I said I'm sorry I am hard of hearing. No apology he just laughed at me. Needless to say I did not purchase anything nor will I for a very long time there. It won't be funny when he is older and has issues. Not a good time to not be helpful. I called to complain and the manager tried making excuses due to how busy they are due to the circumstances. Busy means money for them an apology would have nice. read more

A late evening on Saturday and we needed a couple things. In the parking lot was one car. We watched someone try a for and thought it was closed. Come to find out the other for was open and we were the only ones in the store. They have some great gluten free cakes and baked goods, so if that is something you need you could try them. Although I could save a bundle by giving Walmart or even HyVee my business, I preferred to get the majority of my weekly groceries here at Dick's (tells you how long I've been a loyal customer- they sold to Piggly Wiggly back in '06. For a few years my annoyance with the overall poor service and resentful attitude of their staff has become enough to drive me to get staples at Walmart and meats at HyVee about half of the time. The Deli dept should all take a lesson in customer service. I'd leave feeling like I needed to apologize for putting them out. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back though. I was checking my 12 items behind a woman with probably 6-8 items. I saw someone coming up behind me, and so placed one of those "marker bars" used to separate customer's checkout items on either side of my groceries on the belt. Katie, the cashier, said "I didn't need that there", like "what- do you think I'm stupid??". The woman checking out in front of me laughed and said "I know, right?!?". At first I was embarassed, then indignant, then just angry. When the woman ahead of me left, Katie didn't speak a word to me until I bid her a nice day, in the sweetest, most condescending tone I could muster. She mumbled something back that I couldn't hear. NEVER AGAIN, DICK'S. Tammy, I hope you read this- my roughly $600 of business per month will be going down the street- where at the very least, I'm not shamed and spoken down to for trying to be MINDFUL and CONSIDERATE!!! read more

This is a fairly small, older grocery store with a small section of organic and gluten-free foods. I am especially appreciative of the fact that they stock O'Connell's Organic Meats (from a small super high quality farm near Dubuque) and Nordic Creamery cheese (non-certified organic goat cheese from Wisconsin - in the regular cheese department, not the organic section). I also regularly purchase GT's Kombucha, Kerrygold butter, some European cookies, and (in summer) local produce from this store. read more

Hmmmm. I don't know why I feel guilty giving "the Pig" a two star review, but I can't think of anything besides the fact that the store is bright that leaves me with a positive thought. I mean, it's not a terrible food store, but it's pretty expensive and the layout of the aisles seemed mixed up and confusing. I found myself going back and forth within the store trying to find goods that seem to normally right next to each other in other similar establishments. I guess they did the best they could with what they had, but other than being located close to where I was staying, I doubt I'd go back. There's a Super WalMart only a mile away. "Piggly Wiggly". It IS fun to say, though. Maybe that's why I feel guilty only giving it two stars. read more

I love the name Piggly Wiggly. This is a typical grocery store and the prices are pretty reasonable. You can get almost everything that you need. I love their rottisserie chicken! What I don't like is that the cashiers don't have a generic preferred card (like at Jewel, when you forget your card, they can scan theirs so you can still get the discounts) and that was really annoying. The cashier was looking up my friend but couldn't find her so I asked if we could use her card but she said that they don't have their own cards. And then I asked the guy behind my friend to use his card (because I saw it) but he ignored me. Bastard. Anyways... we just left without the discount. And another weird thing is that they write down the cart number on your receipt! I don't know why they do that. I guess a lot of people try to steal their carts or something... very ghetto!!! read more

Considering this is the only true grocery store in Galena, it's pretty hard to find fault w/ it. I came here from the Amber Creek cabin's in deperate need of mixers and snacks. I liked the fact that they are open daily from 7am till 10pm, giving us plenty of time to shop for dinner and drinks. Located in downtown Galena, it's one of the few establishments open beyond 6pm. Coming from Chicago this place is nothing special, but in Galena it's definitely an oasis. If you're staying in one of the nearby resorts or cabin's, it's totally worth the trip here to get all your food and drinks! read more

The employees in the deli are very rude and act put out by customers, especially close to their closing time. If you interrupt their nightly cleaning, expect attitude. I have personally experienced the wrath. I have been told, it's going to be awhile, as if I should retract my order. Meat and cheese should be cut on separate slicers or the slicer should be cleaned in between to avoid cross contamination. One night I got meat and cheese, the same slicer was used for both and not cleaned in between. I have decided to no longer use deli services. Overall beware!!!! read more

Vet friendly and helpful staff. Great place to get local products (cheese, farm- fresh local eggs, bacon, locally made pickles and BBQ sauce and many other items). Great meat counter with a butcher on-premises who can answer questions and is eager to help. Very nice option to the big-box store- while everyday items may be cheaper up the road, for those special and local items, Piggly Wiggly is the place to go! read more

I am a resident of Galena and always shop at Piggly Wiggly, and do so for several reasons. I tried Walmart when I first moved here and found the store was so big it forever to have to travel from one end of the store to the other to complete my shopping. Too the contrary, at the "Pig", as it is affectionately known to locals, everything is orderly and well displayed, with plenty of store associates on hand to help you find the odd item that has eluded you. In fact they not only tell you where to find but but generally go and get to for you and bring it back to you; thus saving you time and energy. That is a blessing to us older generation that often have to get around with the aid of canes or walkers. No such help is available at Walmart; in fact, it is hard to find anyone to answer a question. At to the meats and produce; the "Pig" winds hands down. Their produce is fresher and attractively displayed. Their produce manager Mike is always available to help when needed. In the past almost 4 years, I have found only one piece of spoiled produce, a Clementine fruit, and when I told Mike about it, he removed it, apologized, and searched the balance of the display to be certain it was all fine. The staff is friendly and always helpful greeting one frequently by name and always asking about ones health. When checking out the cashier always writes ones shopping cart number on the register receipt so we can drive up to the covered parcel pick up area, give the receipt with the cart number; which a store associate has delivered to the parcel pick up area for you, whir recover your car from the parking lot; and then the groceries are loaded into your vehicle. This is particularly appreciated when the weather is rainy, cold, or snowy because you do not have to leave the comfort of your car. This service is not available at Walmart. One reviewer noted she thought the cart number was noted to prevent theft of the grocery carts. She was so wrong. The "Pig" has a wonderful selection of hard spirits, wind and beer; and in house bakery, a wonderful florist offering delivery service, and actual butchers who will cut meats to order and even take special orders. Don't have this type of customer satisfaction at Walmart. At to the "Pig" being expensive. I don't agree when all things reconsidered. Use your "Piggly Wiggly" card, watch for their weekly specials, and remember that Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are "double coupon" days. If you don't have a card then get one - no charge, Any cashier can help you immediately and you can use it immediately to take advantage of that days specials. If you need something not readily available then ask Tammy - local resident and store owner and/or any associate at the service counter and they will special order it. I dropped off a "puffy" white winter coat to be dry cleaned last week and picked it up yesterday and almost fell over when she told me the total. $9.05. WHAT??!! That's the cheapest I've ever paid for anything to be dry cleaned and they did a great job of getting the "rub" marks off of the jacket. I have another "puffy" black and white winter coat that I'll be dropping off this week since they did such a fabulous job with the first jacket. read more

OK, we've been going to this store regularly -- every week or two for the past 3 years. They have a decent wine/liquor store, the pork is GREAT ... but The produce is AWFUL! The last 3 times in a row (and other times too), the boxed berries had rotten ones, the peaches were over ripe. Too much rotton food -- we will move to Walmart (hate to say it!) Also the staff are small town snobby. Not warm or friendly. The Post office does a better job with being warm -- or ... Walmart! And HyVee is not too far .... read more

We just recently went through the Piggly Wiggly for our wedding cake and desserts for our wedding at Chestnut Mountain Resort. The desserts were plentiful and super delicious, from what I hear anyway :). The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is because it was difficult at times to get a hold of the right person to get a quote and finalize plans. Pat in the bakery ended up being our point of contact and she was great to work with. She also did an amazing job on our wedding cake that everyone absolutely devoured. We went with a carrot caked that was to die for. We actually took the rest of it home it was that good :). Highly recommend. read more

I live out here, so when I do some quick shopping I stop in at Piggy's. For years I have shopped here. You would think I was invisible. For the most part the staff is very nice, at the customer service desk there is a woman with long dark hair who is very unpleasant. Never smiles, won't talk even if I try to engage her. I try to avoid dealing with her but it is sometimes impossible. I bought a product which I was unsure about, I asked about the product before I bought it. They did not know much about the product, I told them that if it not to my liking I will return it. Well, it wasn't. I took one taste then went blah! When I returned it with my comment this woman, in my opinion, made it sound like I consumed most of the product. One taste was all I took. Her customer service approach is unpleasant and accusing. Tammy, find someone more pleasant for the front desk, the woman with the long blond hair was delightful, this one with the long dark hair is not. read more

Wow. Chicago must be the mecca for all things wonderful. This is NOT the only grocery store in town, Wal Mart is open 24 hours, although I know many people are above shopping there. And the reason they write your cart number on your reciept is for drive up grocery loading. DUH. Pretty sure Galena doesn't have a ghetto, or a cart theft problem for that matter. read more

I didn't shop here but my husband ordered flowers to be delivered to our hotel room last October. We were celebrating our anniversary. The flowers were gorgeous and they really worked with our hotel's front desk well because I was surprised.
