If there was a way to separate a doctor's ability to be point on with diagnosis, from his ability to run a smooth practice, I would rate them as such. Since you really can't, my rating will be solely based on my overall experience with Piers Barry. I would also like to mention that I am considered obese, compared to his normal group of patients.
I came in the end of May, to the beginning of June 2021, with a completely torn ACL. The doctor was able to order quickly the necessary scans to make a diagnosis. He was happy to also order a scan of other regions in question for chronic pain. I was very impressed with his indepth readings and explanations of the results. He suggested physical therapy and a custom leg brace for my injury. With the custom ordered brace, his assistant did the measuring. I was told that I would have to put down a deposit before they'll order it. This baffled me, as I was told that my insurance would likely cover it. I was told that this deposit will cover the cost to get the order started, and that the money from the deposit will be returned, once the insurance pays. I was told that it could take up to 6 weeks for the brace to come in. The doctors office would then call me to come in and make sure it fits properly.
A few weeks went by and I thought I'd call to see if they heard anything about my brace. They informed me that they had gotten the brace in a couple of weeks before my call. I thought that it was probably overlooked and forgotten about. No big deal. Mistakes are made. I went in to try on my brace, only to find out that it didn't fit. The assistant that was "trying to put it on me" acted as though he didn't know how to do it. He told me that it needed new straps and adjustment done by the brace company's rep. The rep will be notified and will actually come to my home by the next day. A few days went by and after several phone calls to the doctors office, I still hadn't seen or heard from the rep. Finally a month goes by, and I call the doctors office again, demanding to speak to the doctor about the brace that I helped pay for, yet can't even wear because it doesn't fit. I told them that if I don't get to talk to the doctor now, then I'm bringing back the brace that I can't wear, and I'll want my money back.
The receptionist advised me that she will make sure it is taken care of right away. Two minutes later the brace rep calls to set up a time to fix my brace.
Since then, I have received notice from my insurance that the brace was paid for. It has been 5-6 months, and still no deposit returned. In fact, I had asked several times about it, with no reply.
I did have a possible torn rotator cuff recently, and decided to see doctor Piers Barry again for a consult. I also took this opportunity to share with him my ongoing problems with his staff. He shrugged his shoulders and chalked it up to COVID and lack of staff. No sympathy or empathy in his words or expression. He did say that his staff will contact billing to make sure they reach out to me regarding my deposit return.
I finally received a call, stating that I actually owed him money way beyond the amount of the deposit. I looked up my account and found that I owed a small fee. I paid the balance online and called his billing department back. They told me that the insurance didn't pay beyond the agreed amount for the brace and that to make it fair for the doctor, I should be paying what the insurance lacked in paying.
Bottom line is that I see two problems. Either I'm being singled out because I may be heavier than most of Dr Barry's patients, and I don't deserve the same treatment as the rest of his patients. Or, his priorities are with getting whatever money he deems from whomever is gullible enough to put up with such poor treatment.
I've gone more than above and beyond my position as a patient, to try to reconcile with him. Needless to say, I WILL NOT BE GOING TO HIM FOR FURTHER TREATMENT AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE ELSE.
UPDATE: AFTER SENDING A COPY OF THIS REVIEW TO HIS COMPANY FACEBOOK PAGE AND CALLING HIS BILLING AGAIN, I WAS SENT A REFUND CHECK WRITTEN BY PIERS BARRY. It's pathetic that a doctor with such high ratings is this bad with following through to his word, after my endless hounding! I was actually hoping for a letter of apology. Oh well. Not everyone has a conscious concerning the negative effects they have on others lives, I guess. read more
