This is one of my favorite places to get macarons, and I always make a trip to this store when I'm in London, so I was sure to come here when I visited Paris. This particular location has pastries too (vs. in London they only have macarons and chocolates), so I was extra excited. This particular location does not have the croissants (I believe it's only 2 locations in Paris, but not this one).
The store is beautifully laid out, with displays of macarons, pastries, and chocolates and lots of pretty colors. They have a pretty decent selection of flavors for macarons (around 18), and they constantly have new seasonal flavors that are unique and interesting. They have maybe 6-8 different types of pastries, but if you have your eye on something particular, go early because by the end of the day, they hardly have any left.
My absolute flavor that I always get is the mogador which a passionfruit macaron with chocolate ganache inside so I always get that. They were actually out of it when I went so I got 2 different flavors. The macarons are not cheap but I like these better and think they have more unique flavors than Laduree. This time around, I got the raspberry pistachio and salted caramel flavors, both were excellent. The salted caramel actually has a thin layer of the caramel sandwiched in between the outer cookie and the buttercream which is great.
I had tried their deux millefeuille in Tokyo on another trip and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. So I got it here again - it's huge, and probably best shared between 2 people. Although to be honest, I probably could just eat a whole one myself too. If you like pralines and hazelnuts this is the dessert for you. It has flaky caramelized puff pastry crust, crispy praliné with Piedmont hazelnuts and praliné mousseline cream. It's just a perfect combination of textures: creamy, flaky and crunchy all in one. It's not a pastry to be eaten on the street walking around because it's messy - you can eat it there or take it home.
We also got the infinimente vanille tarte which was just ok. It was made with high quality vanilla beans so it didn't taste artificial, but I've had a lot better pastries that I've loved more than this one. I wouldn't get this one again.
Come for the macarons and the deux millefeuille, both things are fantastic. Come early if you want to make sure they don't run out of the pastry you want. A bit pricey, but worth it. The packaging and bags are also beautiful. read more
